X-Men 97 gave us the best look at the xavier Magnus bromance so far, there was real emotion in there goodbyes. But I’m not sure the addition of the team to the rise of apocalypse felt as natural as the phoenix and Cyclops adaptation last week. And promising candra and the externals is not the best hook for the future episodes. I assume we get Charles leaning in to onslaught after this. Not sure I’m not looking forward to another Logan and weapon x story but the Paris setting suggest we may get phantomex 97 so that may be fun.
I didn’t get a lot out of that episode, except it did pinpoint how far my suspension of disbelief will stretch. That clean cartoon animation gave me strong emotions when it explored genocide last season, but I just can’t swallow pathos from a dude that looks like a juggalo.
The climax of the episode went harder than I expected. Magneto was at his best this episode, and his interactions with Charles had some weight behind them. I wish the rest of the cast had more to do, and I’m glad the show is out of ancient Egypt. I’ve never found (non-Krakoa) Apocalypse all that interesting.
The latest was my least favorite episode of what has been a great season so far to me (particularly being an Apocalypse fan) because the basic reasoning of Apocalypse made no sense to me. I agree the TV show is fantastic. Why can’t we get writing this good in the comics in 2026?
