&#8220;Party Over&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ea2R003-iSM?rel=0\" height=\"225\" width=\"400\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Tell me, is the party over?&#8221; asks Amelia.<\/p>\n<p>Well, let&#8217;s see. \u00a0&#8220;You Bring Me Joy&#8221;, number 2. \u00a0&#8220;Shut Up (And Give Me Whatever You Got)&#8221;, number 11. \u00a0This track, number 40. \u00a0Position on iTunes as of right this moment now &#8211; 103.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->So yeah, I&#8217;d say it&#8217;s not looking great for continued partying. \u00a0Not sure what&#8217;s gone wrong here, since it&#8217;s a perfectly good record. \u00a0The album&#8217;s due out in July, but this is the sort of chart place that tends to prompt rethinks.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/NdYWuo9OFAw\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>39. \u00a0The Goo Goo Dolls &#8211; &#8220;Iris&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Making another of its periodic returns to the chart, apparently because it was used on\u00a0<em>Britain&#8217;s Got Talent<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35. \u00a0Carly Rae Jepsen &#8211; &#8220;Tonight I&#8217;m Getting Over You&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cBOE1aUNZVo?rel=0\" height=\"225\" width=\"400\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Effectively the third Carly Rae Jepsen single after &#8220;Call Me Maybe&#8221; and &#8220;Good Time&#8221; (which the Official Chart Company credits to Owl City featuring Carly Rae Jepsen, but it&#8217;s on her album too). \u00a0The work of the usual suspects from Sweden, it&#8217;s another efficiently crafted piece of mainstream pop, and there&#8217;s not much more to be said about it. \u00a0Currently being downloaded as an album track, so it could go further.<\/p>\n<p><strong>33. \u00a0Nicky Romero &#8211; &#8220;Like Home&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6agp_W-rqgQ?rel=0\" height=\"225\" width=\"400\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Nicky Romero&#8217;s second hit, following &#8220;I Could Be The One&#8221;, the collaboration with Avicii that gave him his debut number one earlier in the year &#8211; still on the chart at 34. \u00a0This is, unsurprisingly, along broadly similar lines.<\/p>\n<p>The singers are Miriam and Olivia Nervo, are Australian twins who&#8217;ve never made much impact as performers, but have had successful backroom careers as songwriters. \u00a0They co-wrote the David Guetta song &#8220;When Love Takes Over&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>21. \u00a0David Guetta (featuring Ne-Yo &amp; Akon) &#8211; &#8220;Play Hard&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5dbEhBKGOtY?rel=0\" height=\"225\" width=\"400\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The latest single from &#8220;Nothing But The Beat&#8221; already made number 22 as an album track download last autumn, so this is technically a re-entry. \u00a0But now it has a video. \u00a0A pretty dreadful one, at that.<\/p>\n<p>The hook is sampled from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/lHjNmyzrVvM\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Better Off Alone&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0which reached number 2 in 1999 for Alice Deejay, and which is also a rather better record.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/7d_HD89ZlJE\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>19. \u00a0AlunaGeorge &#8211; &#8220;Attracting Flies&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Suddenly climbing 11 places after two weeks stuck at number 30. \u00a0I was starting to wonder if it had stalled.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>11. \u00a0Passenger &#8211; &#8220;Let Her Go&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RBumgq5yVrA?rel=0\" height=\"225\" width=\"400\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Passenger is songwriter Mike Rosenberg. \u00a0There used to be an actual band, but they split in 2007 and he kept the name. \u00a0He&#8217;s been plugging away in folk circles for years with little in the way of broader impact. \u00a0This single was originally released last year to promote his album &#8220;All The Little Lights&#8221;. \u00a0It failed to chart.<\/p>\n<p>Then, at the start of this year, &#8220;Let Her Go&#8221; suddenly took off abroad. \u00a0It&#8217;s been number one in Australia, Germany, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, New Zealand&#8230; \u00a0and now, finally, his home country has started paying attention to him. \u00a0It&#8217;s another odd example of how, in the internet era, somebody who&#8217;s been plugging away diligently for years can suddenly strike a chord internationally and break through to claim their much-delayed reward.<\/p>\n<p>The album enters this week at number 25, now that people are suddenly paying attention to it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. \u00a0The Loveable Rogues &#8211; &#8220;What A Night&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LAd729p38-8?rel=0\" height=\"225\" width=\"400\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This bunch reached the final of Britain&#8217;s Got Talent last year, and now they&#8217;re signed to Simon Cowell. \u00a0The producers of the show headhunted them from YouTube. \u00a0I&#8217;m not at all convinced that this single shows them at their best, since it seems to be positioning them as a bit of a comedy act, and kind of buries their own (perfectly engaging) personalities under a deluge of rather tired house party gags. \u00a0There&#8217;s a <em>lot\u00a0<\/em>that&#8217;s irritating about this record.\u00a0 It&#8217;s quite catchy, though, and they showed more range than this on BGT. \u00a0Cowell might actually have something with these guys, if he understands how to promote it.<\/p>\n<p>That said, this was at 5 in the midweeks, landed at 9 at the end of the week, and is currently at 23 on iTunes. \u00a0Tends to suggest the sales were very frontloaded.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/2zNSgSzhBfM\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>5. \u00a0Macklemore &amp; Ryan Lewis &#8211; &#8220;Can&#8217;t Hold Us&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Up seven places this week, and still climbing on iTunes. \u00a0They&#8217;ve pretty clearly demonstrated that &#8220;Thrift Shop&#8221; was not a fluke. \u00a0Meanwhile, the parent album &#8220;The Heist&#8221; finally shows up on the album chart this week at 31.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Daft Punk (featuring Pharrell Williams) &#8211; &#8220;Get Lucky&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5NV6Rdv1a3I?rel=0\" height=\"225\" width=\"400\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Having made number 3 last week on the strength of two days&#8217; sales, Daft Punk unsurprisingly climb to the top now that they have a full week&#8217;s sales behind them (particularly as there&#8217;s not much out this week to provide them with competition). \u00a0Their 2001 album &#8220;Discovery&#8221; also re-enters the album chart at 23.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s their first number one. \u00a0Despite what the huge interest in this single might lead you to believe, and despite a career that dates back to 1997, Daft Punk have only had three top ten hits in this country &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/mmi60Bd4jSs\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Da Funk&#8221;<\/a>\/&#8221;Musique&#8221; (number 7 in 1997), <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/s9MszVE7aR4\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Around the World&#8221;<\/a> (number 5 in 1997), and &#8220;One More Time&#8221; (number 2 in 2000). \u00a0All of which, admittedly, are classics.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/FGBhQbmPwH8?rel=0\" height=\"300\" width=\"400\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Daft Punk have made a lot of interesting videos on lesser-known tracks. \u00a0Here&#8217;s &#8220;Revolution 909&#8221;, which understandably missed the top 40 in 1998 what with not having much of a hook and all, but does have a great video by Roman Coppola. \u00a0(Misery fans might also want to check out <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/QwRlt1XyOg0\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Prime Time Of Your Life&#8221;<\/a>, which is one of the more disturbing videos I&#8217;ve ever seen from a mainstream act. \u00a0Decide for yourself whether that&#8217;s a recommendation.)<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uURB-vo9rZ4?rel=0\" height=\"300\" width=\"400\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Oh yes &#8211; this is also the first solo number 1 for Pharrell Williams, if anyone&#8217;s paying attention to that. \u00a0He&#8217;s had ten solo hits if you count his guest appearances, the biggest being his own single &#8220;Can I Have It Like That&#8221;, which made number 3 in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 13px;\"><strong>&#8220;To Be Loved&#8221; by Michael Buble<\/strong>\u00a0is still number 1.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Tape Deck Heart&#8221; by Frank Turner<\/strong> at 2. \u00a0Chart places of the five Frank Turner albums: n\/a, 72, 36, 12, 2. \u00a0His exposure at the Olympics Opening Ceremony will have done no harm but his popularity&#8217;s been growing for years.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Willpower&#8221; by will.i.am<\/strong> at 3. \u00a0I would not have bet on that selling fewer copies than Frank Turner.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Bankrupt&#8221; by Phoenix<\/strong> at 14. \u00a0The first time the French indie band have made the album top 40.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Discovery&#8221; by Daft Punk<\/strong>\u00a0at 23.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;All the Little Lights&#8221; by Passenger<\/strong> at 25.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Heist&#8221; by Macklemore &amp; Ryan Lewis<\/strong> at 31.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor&#8221;
