20 July 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve got a pretty dead week here. \u00a0Not much in the way of new releases, and what there is, hasn&#8217;t exactly sustained its sales.<\/p>\n<p><strong>30. \u00a0Kove featuring Melissa Steel &#8211; &#8220;Way We Are&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jB1jbU-peqc?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This was at 17 in the midweeks, so sales obviously tailed off quite badly in the second half of the week. \u00a0It&#8217;s an\u00a0above average dance record with a low budget but decently edited video. \u00a0Kove is producer James Rockhill, making his first chart appearance. \u00a0Melissa Steel is a singer from Bradford who\u00a0has her own\u00a0single, \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/NmqlYjFlmgk\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Kisses for Breakfast&#8221;<\/a>, out at the end of the month.<\/p>\n<p>For some reason, even though Steel\u00a0<em>is<\/em> promoting this record, that&#8217;s not her in the video &#8211; it&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jowhite.co.uk\/blog\" target=\"_blank\">Jo White<\/a>, a\u00a0dancer and model who was also in the video for <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/4k_v_i_HsSk\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Everything You Never Had&#8217; by Breach<\/a>. \u00a0I&#8217;m not sure quite what&#8217;s going on there, since getting in a completely different person to lip-synch in your videos is not a common strategy these days, particularly someone who doesn&#8217;t look remotely like the actual singer.<\/p>\n<p><strong>16. \u00a0Ella Eyre &#8211; &#8220;If I Go&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/JJr80jXCepc?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Another guest vocalist making the move to lead credit &#8211; Eyre was the singer on &#8220;Waiting All Night&#8221; by Rudimental, a number one last year. \u00a0This is not actually her first single, but it&#8217;s the first to be effectively\u00a0\u00a0promoted. \u00a0It&#8217;s also very like Rudimental,\u00a0though with the balance a bit more soul than drum and bass. \u00a0A pretty solid debut, but\u00a0at 8 in the midweeks, 16 in the final chart, and a dismal 35 in\u00a0the current midweeks, it&#8217;s surely underperformed expectations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. \u00a0Nicole Scherzinger &#8211; &#8220;Your Love&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9FOWI6Zftpg?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0sort of record where it&#8217;s vaguely surprising to discover that it doesn&#8217;t feature Pitbull. \u00a0This is the second single to be taken from Scherzinger&#8217;s\u00a0second album &#8211; a presumably troubled project, given that the previous single was &#8220;Boomerang&#8221;,\u00a0which got to number 6 last March. \u00a0(The official line is that the release was delayed so that she could give her full attention to the tenth season of <i>X Factor<\/i>, but seriously now. \u00a0No UK\u00a0<em>X Factor<\/em> judge has ever been stupid enough to delay an album launch until\u00a0<em>after<\/em> they&#8217;ve got a national TV platform to advertise it.)<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s actually got a pretty good hook, this. \u00a0And\u00a0it&#8217;s not a bad production either. \u00a0What it\u00a0<em>isn&#8217;t<\/em> is any sort of showcase for Nicole Scherzinger,\u00a0who comes across as pretty anonymous, when she isn&#8217;t wrestling with some of the worst lyrics of the year. \u00a0(&#8220;Knock me out like Michael Tyson \/ I&#8217;ll do everything you want&#8221;? \u00a0&#8220;Yeah my body&#8217;s like Bugatti \/ You know everybody wants one&#8221;?) \u00a0And it&#8217;s another brutal flare-out &#8211; 2 in last week&#8217;s midweeks, 6 at the end of the week, 13 in today&#8217;s midweeks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Rixton &#8211; &#8220;Me and my Broken Heart&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7JJfJgyHYwU?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>From the offices of Scooter Braun, the man who brought you Justin Bieber, comes Rixton, the latest boy band he supposedly discovered on YouTube. \u00a0Believe that if you want. \u00a0The lead singer is one Jake Roche,\u00a0and he&#8217;s Shane Richie&#8217;s son. \u00a0(&#8220;Roche&#8221; is Richie&#8217;s real name.) \u00a0His mother\u00a0is Colleen Nolan,\u00a0who was the youngest member of the\u00a0Nolan Sisters, probably best known (to British people who are old enough, at any rate) for their 1979 hit &#8220;I&#8217;m in the Mood for Dancing&#8221;, which got to number 3 in the UK, and an unexpected number 1 in Japan.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XbAM2_6jKY0?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Please note that that video didn&#8217;t look much better when it came out. \u00a0This is four years after &#8220;Bohemian Rhapsody&#8221;, after all. \u00a0The\u00a0song&#8217;s actually quite decent, though. \u00a0Jake has already beaten mum&#8217;s highest chart placing, but her group\u00a0had a total of eight hits between 1979 and 1982, so she&#8217;s still ahead.<\/p>\n<p>As for Rixton&#8217;s song, it sounds like something Malta\u00a0might enter in the Eurovision Song Contest in an off year. \u00a0Although it did hang on to number 1 for the end of the week, it&#8217;s at 5 in the midweeks (behind three new\u00a0releases and Ella Henderson&#8217;s &#8220;Ghost&#8221;, which\u00a0turns out to have some staying power). \u00a0At this stage,\u00a0Rixton seem to be another fans-only C-list boy band, but\u00a0it&#8217;s only the first single, so they can fairly\u00a0treat this as a reasonable start.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;X&#8221; by Ed Sheeran<\/strong> spends a fourth week at number 1, serenely disregarding the challenge of&#8230;<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;World Peace is None of Your Business&#8221; by Morrissey<\/strong> at 2. \u00a0Maintaining a clean record of top 5 places for his studio albums this century. \u00a0Admittedly he hasn&#8217;t released one since 2009. \u00a0In an interesting approach, there aren&#8217;t any regular videos for this album, but there is<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/WUKRVnTCXRg\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0a spoken word version of the\u00a0title track<\/a>.\u00a0(Not that it really works. \u00a0It kind of needs the\u00a0music\u00a0for a second dimension.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Jungle&#8221; by Jungle<\/strong> at 7. \u00a0Soul group from London. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/5ItKS8bUUTA\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Time&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Redeemer of Souls&#8221; by Judas Priest<\/strong> at 12. \u00a0Their seventeenth album, and &#8211; unsurprisingly given the way veteran rock acts\u00a0seem to be holding up in the declining album market &#8211; it&#8217;s their highest chart placing since &#8220;Screaming for Vengeance&#8221; in 1982. \u00a0\u00a0Not much has changed musically since then. \u00a0Sample track:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/VddfDsrVdcs\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Halls of Valhalla&#8221;<\/a>. \u00a0(You see?)<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Black Market&#8221; by Rise Against<\/strong> at 13. \u00a0Highest chart position to date for the Chicago rock band. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/Dv_cvxAAZ-Y\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;I Don&#8217;t Want To\u00a0Be Here Anymore&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Yes&#8221;
