&#8220;Amnesia&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/DCCJCILiX3o?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Fourth single, time for a ballad. \u00a0This\u00a0was officially released as a single on Monday, but it&#8217;s on the album which has been out\u00a0for months. \u00a0It&#8217;s probably going to climb on Sunday, but not\u00a0soar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>27. \u00a0George Ezra &#8211; &#8220;Blame It On Me&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/H4ifSrE8iSg?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is the follow-up to the number 3 hit &#8220;Budapest&#8221;. \u00a0It&#8217;s been climbing from the lower reaches for a few weeks now, having been officially relaxed as a single in mid-August, but for whatever reason it climbs sixteen places this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>15. \u00a0Oliver $ &amp; Jimi Jules &#8211; &#8220;Pushing On&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2wy1Uu2_pA0?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Another European dance track brought to you by the diligent licensing department at Ministry of Sound, and with a\u00a0video presumably generated\u00a0in-house without reference to the producers. \u00a0Oliver $ is from Germany, Jules is from Switzerland.<\/p>\n<p>It is, of course,\u00a0kludged together from two samples, admittedly rather\u00a0obscure ones. \u00a0The vocal hook comes from &#8220;Pushin&#8217; On&#8221; by the Quantic Soul Orchestra featuring Alice Russell.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YXppv7LFDBI?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Quantic Soul Orchestra was\u00a0basically the live project of producer Will\u00a0Holland, and this was the title track of their album from 2005. \u00a0Alice Russell is a British soul singer who&#8217;s been releasing albums since 2004, but as far as I&#8217;m aware is making her first chart appearance of any sort here. \u00a0As for the backing track, that comes from a thunderously obscure source &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/of6lpQZyBKQ\" target=\"_blank\">the Greg Wilson remix of Grace Jones&#8217;s 2008 single &#8220;Williams&#8217; Blood&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. \u00a0G.R.L. &#8211; &#8220;Ugly Heart&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BxRQNO8vg2Y?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Well. \u00a0This is\u00a0the official debut single from new girl group G.R.L., who were trailed earlier in the year\u00a0as guests on\u00a0Pitbull&#8217;s number 6 hit &#8220;Wild Wild Love&#8221;. \u00a0That was pretty terrible, and\u00a0whoever thought the best way to introduce a girl group was to show them fawning around Pitbull on the Playboy Mansion in the video needs his head examined. \u00a0Presumably,\u00a0the he in question was their svengali Robin Antin,\u00a0also the man who brought us the Pussycat Dolls.<\/p>\n<p>But\u00a0with expectations appropriately calibrated\u2026\u00a0this turns out to be an unexpectedly\u00a0acceptable piece of airplay-friendly\u00a0pop. \u00a0It&#8217;s entirely fine. \u00a0The video\u00a0<em>really<\/em> doesn&#8217;t need the line of dialogue at the end, but otherwise, this makes the project look a lot less depressing than the trailer single did.<\/p>\n<p>Overshadowing all of this, however, is the death on Friday of G.R.L. member Simone Battle, which has now been officially ruled\u00a0a\u00a0suicide by hanging.<\/p>\n<p>The band have apparently declared their intention to continue as a quartet, but\u00a0that&#8217;s obviously going to\u00a0have to be judged very, very carefully.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. \u00a0The Script &#8211; &#8220;Superheroes&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WIm1GgfRz6M?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is the lead single from the Script&#8217;s upcoming fourth album. \u00a0It&#8217;s laser-targeted at the established Script formula, so if you like the Script, well, this is certainly the Script. \u00a0It&#8217;s word for word Script. \u00a0It&#8217;s faithful to the Script. \u00a0It&#8217;s 100% ad lib free. \u00a0That&#8217;s Johannesberg in the video,\u00a0with the locals listening politely as some Irish people are heartfelt at them. \u00a0Honestly, the bit of the\u00a0crowd singing at the end of the video is probably the most entertaining bit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. \u00a0Duke Dumont &#8211; &#8220;Won&#8217;t Look Back&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kv_cwzAIOHs?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Good video. \u00a0And in the midweeks, this was set to be number 1, which would have been quietly surprising &#8211;\u00a0it would have given Dumont number 1 hits with his first three singles. \u00a0But for the first time in a while, sales of the big new releases just didn&#8217;t hold up to the end of the week.<\/p>\n<p>The vocal is not a sample, but the\u00a0singer isn&#8217;t\u00a0credited, and for some reason there was an obvious attempt to build mystery about who it was. \u00a0A lot of reviewers seem to have played into that angle. \u00a0Apparently it&#8217;s now been confirmed as one Yolanda Quartey. \u00a0Here she is with her band Phantom Limb. \u00a0They do country.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2ezYNbHMYwU?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>But as I mentioned, Dumont couldn&#8217;t\u00a0keep up his sales for a week, and so&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Lilly Wood &amp; Robin Schulz &#8211; &#8220;Prayer in C&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A second week! \u00a0One of the rare singles of the year to manage it. \u00a0It won&#8217;t make three &#8211; Calvin\u00a0Harris has a new single out &#8211; but it&#8217;s still a welcome sight.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;In the Lonely Hour&#8221; by Sam Smith<\/strong>\u00a0returns to 1.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;V&#8221; by Maroon 5<\/strong> at 4. \u00a0All five of their studio albums have made the top 10 in Britain. \u00a0The single &#8220;Maps&#8221; is at 8.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Creation&#8221; by The Pierces<\/strong> at 7. \u00a0Two sisters from &#8211; well, originally Alabama, but now LA. \u00a0This is their fifth studio album, but the UK only\u00a0started paying attention with the previous one, &#8220;You &amp; I&#8221;, which got to 4. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"&lt;iframe%20width=&quot;400&quot; height=&quot;225&quot; src=&quot;\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4X_OWTDdlIw?rel=0&quot; frameborder=&quot;0&quot; allowfullscreen&gt;&lt;\/iframe&gt;\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Creation&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Day&#8217;s War&#8221; by Lonely the Brave<\/strong> at 14. \u00a0Guitar band from Cambridge who have somehow made it all the way\u00a0here without meriting a Wikipedia article &#8211; which, ironically, may now be the most notable thing about them. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/fk2phEP7AWU\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Backroads&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>&#8220;Purple Rain &#8211; OST&#8221; by Prince &amp; The Revolution<\/b> at 14. \u00a0That&#8217;ll be the 30th anniversary reissue, a couple of months late.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Blood&#8221; by Pulled Apart By Horses<\/strong> at 38. \u00a0Indie\u00a0band from\u00a0Leeds, making their album chart debut with their third album. \u00a0They&#8217;ve got a Wikipedia entry. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/TqeTbdbd-ms\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Lizard Baby&#8221;<\/a>. \u00a0(Everything about this video belongs on the ITV Chart Show.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I know, I know &#8211;
