4 January 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s week two of the dead period over Christmas and New Year, so once again there&#8217;s not much going on here. \u00a0Let&#8217;s bash through it quickly anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Another batch of hits from earlier in the year enjoy rebounds\u00a0on the strength of\u00a0post-Christmas year-in-review playlists,\u00a0re-entering at the bottom end of the charts. \u00a0(Specifically: &#8220;Prayer in C&#8221; by Lilly Wood at 39, &#8220;All of Me&#8221; by John Legend at 36, &#8220;Happy&#8221; by Pharrell Williams at 34, &#8220;Changing&#8221; by Sigma at 33, and &#8220;Rather Be&#8221; by Clean Bandit at 28.) \u00a0Otherwise&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kanyewest.com\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>35. \u00a0Kanye West featuring Paul McCartney &#8211; &#8220;Only One&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This was released on Thursday, so it&#8217;s charting here on the strength of three days&#8217; sales,\u00a0and without advance promotion. \u00a0It&#8217;s going to climb next week. \u00a0There&#8217;s no video for this, but you can hear it on the front page of Kanye&#8217;s website, linked to above. \u00a0It&#8217;s pretty enough, but the sentiment doesn&#8217;t greatly move me; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/shortcuts\/2015\/jan\/04\/kanye-macca-nuclear-catastrophe-hoverboards-news-missed-christmas\" target=\"_blank\">The Guardian described it<\/a> as &#8220;precisely as touching and tender as you would expect from a song about how great Kanye West&#8217;s mother thought Kanye West was&#8221;, and I&#8217;m inclined to agree.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently there&#8217;s a whole load of Kanye West\/Paul McCartney collaborations on their way, which have given journalists the opportunity to to articles about how Kanye West fans have never heard of Paul McCartney. \u00a0More likely, lazy hacks\u00a0have never heard of irony. \u00a0McCartney is playing the keyboards on this one. \u00a0McCartney was last in the top 40 in 2007 when <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/4NEQyJm87LY\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Dance Tonight&#8221;<\/a> reached number 26.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/MYSVMgRr6pw\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>10. \u00a0Hozier &#8211; &#8220;Take Me To Church&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Climbing 13 places. \u00a0There&#8217;s always one track that\u00a0rises to the top\u00a0during the dead period, and Hozier seems to\u00a0be it this year. \u00a0Intriguingly, this is\u00a0number 3 on the streaming chart and only 15 on sales. \u00a0Apparently a lot of people like a bit of angst over their New Year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. \u00a0Philip George &#8211; &#8220;Wish You Were Here&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/d7ypnPjz81I?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The only new release this week of any significance (other than Kanye), this is\u00a0the\u00a0debut hit for a\u00a0producer from Nottingham. \u00a0It&#8217;s one of several tracks that he put on Soundcloud a while back, but\u00a0that evidently doesn&#8217;t deter record labels from licensing it and selling it.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s basically a 90s house backing put to a speeded up sample of Stevie Wonder&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/b0Gu-CyE-NQ\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;My Cherie Amour&#8221;<\/a>, a\u00a0number 4 hit from 1969.\u00a0 That&#8217;s a pretty high-profile sample to get cleared, particularly without a featured artist credit. \u00a0Supposedly Stevie Wonder\u00a0authorised it personally, though you never know how seriously to take these press release tales. \u00a0It&#8217;s certainly a\u00a0transformation job on the song, but\u00a0it&#8217;s in a pretty similar vein to a lot of tracks we&#8217;ve had over the last year.<\/p>\n<p>Wonder was last in the charts with a credit hit in 2005, when <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/q6XcDNys_vo\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;So What The Fuss&#8221;<\/a> made 19.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/OPf0YbXqDm0\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>1. \u00a0Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars &#8211; &#8220;Uptown Funk&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s three weeks total. \u00a0It\u00a0currently looks on course for a fourth.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart, there are no new entries at all. \u00a0<strong>&#8220;Wanted on Voyage&#8221;
