25 January 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our run of exceedingly dull charts\u00a0finally comes to an end\u2026 next\u00a0week. \u00a0This week, though,\u00a0there&#8217;s virtually nothing happening at all. \u00a0Not on the singles chart, at any rate &#8211; the album release schedules are at least back in business.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. \u00a0Meghan Trainor &#8211; &#8220;Lips Are Movin&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qDc_5zpBj7s?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Yes, 2. \u00a0Yes, there really is nothing else happening lower down the chart &#8211; well, unless you count &#8220;Cool Kids&#8221; by Echosmith climbing 11 places for the second week in a row, which still only gets them to 17.<\/p>\n<p>This is the follow-up to &#8220;All About That Bass&#8221;, which was number 1 for four weeks last autumn. \u00a0It&#8217;s sticking with the bubblegum\/doowop angle, and there&#8217;s a fine line to walk here &#8211;\u00a0it wants to be similar enough to create a distinctive Meghan Trainor sound, without being so similar that she sounds like a one-trick pony. \u00a0On that criterion,\u00a0it\u00a0pretty much succeeds, since\u00a0underneath the arrangement, it&#8217;s a fairly different song. \u00a0But\u00a0it&#8217;s not a song with the same killer hook, so it&#8217;s not going to repeat\u00a0that level of success &#8211; the midweeks have it dropping to 6.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/OPf0YbXqDm0\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>1. \u00a0Mark\u00a0Ronson featuring Bruno Mars &#8211; &#8220;Uptown Funk&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s six weeks\u00a0in total\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0the most since 2007, when &#8220;Bleeding Love&#8221; managed 7. \u00a0Ronson looks like he might actually be on course to match that. \u00a0(If he can get past 7, the next landmark is 10, set by the mighty &#8220;Umbrella&#8221; earlier in the same year. \u00a0That&#8217;s going to be a lot to ask.)<\/p>\n<p>On the albums chart &#8211; hey,\u00a0loads of stuff!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Uptown Special&#8221; by Mark Ronson<\/strong> at number 1. \u00a0That&#8217;s his first number 1 album &#8211; &#8220;Version&#8221; and &#8220;Record Collection&#8221; both got to 2.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;American Beauty\/American Psycho&#8221; by Fall Out Boy<\/strong> at 2. \u00a0Their joint highest\u00a0chart position, matching the previous album &#8220;Save Rock and Roll&#8221;. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/smdNetoPFV0\" target=\"_blank\">Title track.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Mindsweep&#8221; by Enter Shikari<\/strong> at 6. \u00a0Their third top ten album. \u00a0Apparently the term is electronicore. \u00a0They&#8217;ve mellowed a bit, haven&#8217;t they, though? \u00a0Some of this sounds almost 80s. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/TUAgotnkrL4\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;The Last Garrison&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Girls in Peacetime Want To Dance&#8221; by Belle &amp; Sebastian<\/strong> at 9. \u00a0Veteran Glaswegian indie fixtures. \u00a0Number 9 is pretty much where Belle &amp; Sebastian studio albums land up these days. \u00a0Single\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/3vS1Hf3CVGs\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;The Party Line&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0finds them in 80s electropop mode.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Vulnicura&#8221; by Bjork<\/strong> at 11. \u00a0Bit of a return to chart form after &#8220;Biophilia&#8221; missed the top 20. \u00a0Still, she&#8217;s\u00a0clearly\u00a0become a bit of a niche act compared with her heyday. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/vimeo.com\/117913978\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Stonemilker&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0(contains nudity).<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;We Are All We Need&#8221; by Above &amp; Beyond<\/strong> at 12. \u00a0Trance producers who&#8217;ve been around for nigh on 15 years now. \u00a0It&#8217;s their fourth album and surprisingly the first time they&#8217;ve appeared on either the singles or album charts &#8211; this is not a genre that normally favours the albums market. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/U-zC8BkPBZM\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;All Over the World&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>&#8220;What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World&#8221; by The Decemberists<\/b> at 13. \u00a0Their highest chart placing to date in this country. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/Yb8oUbMrydk\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Make You Better&#8221;<\/a>. \u00a0Ah, the old &#8220;fake old TV show&#8221; joke.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Pale Emperor&#8221; by Marilyn Manson<\/strong> at 16. \u00a0From the &#8220;is he still going&#8221; file. \u00a0He is. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/w5LZ8YErl2M\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Deep Six&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;No Cities to Love&#8221; by Sleater-Kinney<\/strong> at 27. \u00a0Their first release after an 8-year hiatus, and surprisingly, their first\u00a0album chart appearance. \u00a0The\u00a0only official video for the album is\u00a0one of their mates doing a cover of one of the\u00a0songs, so here&#8217;s the David Letterman performance of <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/QLwD1to3dZU\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;A New Wave&#8221;<\/a> instead.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;B4.DA.$$&#8221; by Joey\u00a0Bada$$<\/strong> at 28. \u00a0With a name like that, he&#8217;s either a rapper or he&#8217;s in a reality show. \u00a0Oh good, he&#8217;s a rapper. \u00a0Chart debut. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/JmC2igVQdxc\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Big Dusty&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Computer Controlled Acoustic Instruments Pt 2&#8221; by Aphex Twin<\/strong> at 36. \u00a0Low-profile follow-up EP to last year&#8217;s &#8220;Syro&#8221;. \u00a0Supposedly\u00a0it really is computer controlled acoustic instruments, although the &#8220;Pt 2&#8221;
