8 February 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>So, yeah, still no time to write any reviews this week. \u00a0<em>Wolverines\u00a0<\/em>vol 1 is next in the queue. \u00a0But let&#8217;s get the chart post done, since it&#8217;s another short one (and largely written already). \u00a0So much for last week&#8217;s burst of\u00a0new releases&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>39. \u00a0Kodaline &#8211; &#8220;Honest&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dg4MZR9JW6A?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Irish rock band, with the lead single from their\u00a0second album. \u00a0The first one gave them a couple of minor hits back in 2013, with &#8220;High Hopes&#8221; getting to 16. \u00a0This\u00a0doesn&#8217;t get close to that,\u00a0nor does it really deserve to. \u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0a flaccid plodder.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"&lt;iframe%20width=&quot;400&quot; height=&quot;225&quot; src=&quot;https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dg4MZR9JW6A?rel=0&quot; frameborder=&quot;0&quot; allowfullscreen&gt;&lt;\/iframe&gt;\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>18. \u00a0The Weeknd &#8211; &#8220;Earned It&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Climbing 15, though it&#8217;s not going much further in\u00a0today&#8217;s midweeks. \u00a0Still,\u00a0it deserves to cross over beyond the <i>50 Shades of Grey<\/i> promotion. \u00a0More of the film in a moment. \u00a0But first&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. \u00a0Mike Mago &amp; Dragonette &#8211; &#8220;Outlines&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/03O2yKUgrKw?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Mike Mago is a Dutch DJ making his chart debut. \u00a0Dragonette are a Canadian synthpop duo. \u00a0We&#8217;ve had them on the chart before, back in early 2011 when they collaborated with Martin Solveig on the rather excellent\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/kK42LZqO0wA\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Hello&#8221;<\/a>. \u00a0This drops to 20 in the midweeks, so it isn&#8217;t sticking around.<\/p>\n<p>The song&#8217;s okay. \u00a0The video\u00a0at least\u00a0looks distinctive, but it really doesn&#8217;t go anywhere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Ellie Goulding &#8211; &#8220;Love Me Like You Do&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/AJtDXIazrMo?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>From the soundtrack to <em>Fifty Shades of Grey\u00a0<\/em>&#8211; because nothing says sadomasochistic pornography like an Ellie Goulding power ballad. \u00a0Of course, the\u00a0<em>Fifty Shades of Grey<\/em>\u00a0movie isn&#8217;t being marketed as erotica but rather as an Event Romance, which is a rarity in itself. \u00a0It&#8217;s an interesting sell, because\u00a0the success of the book was widely\u00a0credited to the\u00a0anonymity of e-books. \u00a0The movie\u00a0can&#8217;t be pitched as a solitary experience, and hence winds up as a Valentine&#8217;s Day release. \u00a0And since most love songs in pop music are pretty abjectly devoted to start with, there&#8217;s pretty much zero tweaking required to make them seem vaguely thematic. \u00a0The video includes clips of the movie, from which we learn that it will feature clothing, helicopters, and cityscapes.<\/p>\n<p>This is Ellie Goudling&#8217;s second number one, following <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/CGyEd0aKWZE\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Burn&#8221;<\/a>, which\u00a0got three weeks in 2013. \u00a0Always liked that one.<\/p>\n<p>She seems to be on course for a second week at number one, which will\u00a0mean two consecutive number ones managing multiple weeks. \u00a0Rather depressingly, that hasn&#8217;t happened since 2013.<\/p>\n<p>On the albums chart, a similarly quiet week.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Shadows in the Night&#8221; by Bob Dylan<\/strong> at 1. \u00a0Dylan sings Sinatra. \u00a0This is his eighth number 1 album, the first coming in 1964, and the most recent in 2009. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/6S7nTLeMdAk\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Full Moon and Empty Arms&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Brothers in Arms&#8221; by Dire Straits<\/strong> at 8. \u00a0A number 1 album in 1985, re-entering because iTunes and Google Play were both discounting it to 99p. \u00a0There&#8217;s room for debate about whether this should really count,\u00a0obviously.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Full Speed&#8221; by Kid Ink<\/strong> at 10. \u00a0The follow-up to &#8220;My Own Lane&#8221;, which made 34 last January. \u00a0The singles <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/_Ht6gSClAzo\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Body Language&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/M0g8AZA0p-o\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Hotel&#8221;<\/a> both just missed the top 40, despite big name guest stars like Usher and Chris Brown.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;No Romeo&#8221; by Indiana<\/strong> at 17. \u00a0You may remember her\u00a0single <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/WSrktmE963I\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Solo Dancing&#8221;<\/a>, which got to number 14 last May. \u00a0You&#8217;re less likely to\u00a0remember the follow-up <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/g0NbhIKG3PQ\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Heart on Fire&#8221;<\/a>, which missed the top 75, and resulted in this debut album being pushed back several times before finally slinking out now.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Wallflower&#8221;
