22 February 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I did think about doing a post for\u00a0<em>WWE Fast Lane<\/em> but, well,\u00a0the undercard is hardly a source of inspiration to anyone, is it? \u00a0So\u00a0let&#8217;s do the charts instead. \u00a0This would have been an almost completely dead week were it not for a\u00a0couple of late new entries.<\/p>\n<p><strong>37. \u00a0Florence + The Machine &#8211; &#8220;What Kind Of Man&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XgeKHTcufLY?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The lead single from new album &#8220;How Big How Bad How Beautiful&#8221;. \u00a0A surprisingly low placing, particularly as it was 26 in the midweeks &#8211;\u00a0Florence Welch hasn&#8217;t had a record out since 2012, when the remix of &#8220;Spectrum&#8221; got to number 1. \u00a0Granted that that was a special case (as was\u00a0the Dizzee Rascal collaboration from the\u00a0Brits that got to number 2), her bigger singles have generally made\u00a0the upper teens.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody could accuse the video of\u00a0being over-hasty to get to the point. \u00a0As for the song, Florence has discovered electric guitars and stompiness.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35. \u00a0Taylor Swift &#8211; &#8220;Style&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-CmadmM5cOk?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The next single from the &#8220;1989&#8221; album,\u00a0climbing the charts after the\u00a0video came out. \u00a0Supposedly it&#8217;s about Harry Styles, but if so, it&#8217;s not obvious that it&#8217;s &#8220;about&#8221; him in any sense other than inspiring the use of the word &#8220;style&#8221; in the hook. \u00a0Obviously, this is going to climb. \u00a0It&#8217;s a grower, and it sounds pretty decent on a first listen. \u00a0Very 80s, and a retrenchment\u00a0after a couple of singles that were all about playing off Swift&#8217;s public image.<\/p>\n<p><strong>20. \u00a0David Guetta featuring Emeli Sande &#8211; &#8220;What I Did For Love&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9fL5iWgWwno?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The third single from &#8220;Listen&#8221;, charting as an album track ahead of its &#8220;official&#8221; single release this week (as if\u00a0it means anything to release a single\u00a0from an already-available album these days). \u00a0Apparently\u00a0<em>EastEnders<\/em> used it on one of their live\u00a0episodes last week, which must have helped. \u00a0Technically this is a re-entry, as the song previously reached number 24\u00a0at the end of November, after it was somewhat randomly performed on an\u00a0<em>X Factor<\/em>\u00a0results show.<\/p>\n<p>Though she&#8217;s cropped up as a featured artist a few times since, Sande was last in\u00a0the top 40 as a lead artist with &#8220;Clown&#8221; back in March 2013, so presumably the new album can&#8217;t be far off now. \u00a0In the meantime,<\/p>\n<p><b>17. \u00a0LuvBug &#8211; &#8220;Revive (Say Something)&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/akFYYJLKxQs?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Highest new entry by default. \u00a0This is the\u00a0production trio\u00a0that includes Marvin from JLS. \u00a0Their first single &#8220;Resonance&#8221; got to\u00a013 last year, so they&#8217;re moving in the wrong\u00a0direction. \u00a0It was at 7 in the midweeks, but clearly sales didn&#8217;t hold up. \u00a0The uncredited singer is a guy called Mark Asari- <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/f2SpOlFQ508\" target=\"_blank\">here&#8217;s one of his own songs<\/a>, presumably sponsored by Rolex.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/AJtDXIazrMo\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>1. \u00a0Ellie Goulding &#8211; &#8220;Love Me Like You Do&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s three weeks, which equals the run of her previous biggest hit &#8220;Burn&#8221; in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Combined with Mark Ronson&#8217;s six-week run immediately before, this is a remarkable slowdown\u00a0in the charts,\u00a0even though it seems to be driven largely by a desolate release schedule. \u00a0Since the next chart will come out on 1 March, this means we&#8217;ve made it through the first two months of the year with only a single new number one &#8211; that\u00a0last\u00a0happened in\u00a02007, when Leona Lewis&#8217; winners single stayed at the top throughout January, and Mika&#8217;s &#8220;Grace Kelly&#8221; took February.<\/p>\n<p>On the very last entirely sales-based album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Smoke &amp; Mirrors&#8221; by Imagine Dragons<\/strong> at 1. \u00a0Their first\u00a0UK number 1 &#8211;\u00a0debut &#8220;Night Visions&#8221;\u00a0only got to 2. \u00a0The single &#8220;I Bet My Life&#8221; falls to 32 this week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Texas 25&#8221; by Texas<\/strong> at 5. \u00a0Texas cover their own greatest hits to celebrate 25 years, with the obligatory cluster of new songs thrown in. \u00a0Their last album in 2013 got to number 4, so the audience is still there. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/SJIaRnsyaIc\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Start A Family&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0(featuring Alan Rickman).<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Wonder Days&#8221; by Thunder<\/strong> at 9. \u00a0Aging B-list rockers whose heyday was the early 90s. \u00a0They haven&#8217;t been in the top 10 since 1995, so I&#8217;m not sure what&#8217;s gone so well for them here. \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/youtu.be\/bWmn4eWSb5Y\" target=\"_blank\">Album preview video.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Led Zeppelin&#8221; by Led Zeppelin<\/strong> at 14,\u00a0presumably in this week&#8217;s discount affair.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Sucker&#8221; by Charli XCX<\/strong> at 15. \u00a0Well, it beats\u00a0her debut album &#8220;True Romance&#8221;, which stalled at 85, but by any conventional standards\u00a0missing the top 10 ought to be disappointing for someone as heavily promoted as Charli XCX. \u00a0The single &#8220;Doing It&#8221; drops to 9 this week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Non-Fiction&#8221; by Ne-Yo<\/strong> at 16. \u00a0That&#8217;s actually one place higher than his last album &#8211; Ne-Yo has occasional big hit singles but\u00a0isn&#8217;t great at shifting albums. \u00a0The single &#8220;Coming With You&#8221; drops to 24 this week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Everything Ever Written&#8221; by Idlewild<\/strong> at 20. \u00a0From the &#8220;are they still going?&#8221; file. \u00a0Idlewild&#8217;s commercial peak was with &#8220;The Remote Part&#8221;, a number 3 album in 2002.
