{"id":3013,"date":"2015-04-23T23:25:48","date_gmt":"2015-04-23T22:25:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=3013"},"modified":"2015-04-23T23:25:48","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T22:25:48","slug":"charts-19-april-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=3013","title":{"rendered":"Charts &#8211; 19 April 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A very odd week,\u00a0full of singles suddenly vaulting their way up the charts after\u00a0making an initial appearance at the bottom end.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ShlW5plD_40\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>29. \u00a0Meghan Trainor &#8211; &#8220;Dear Future Husband&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Up 11. \u00a0The midweeks don&#8217;t show it making much further progress, though. \u00a0I keep mis-typing the title as &#8220;Dead Future Husband&#8221;, which sounds like a much more interesting song.<\/p>\n<p><strong>27. \u00a0Kodaline &#8211; &#8220;The One&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xLPGtQoRUbk?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The second single from their current album. \u00a0It was inside the top 20 in the midweeks,\u00a0Second single from their current album. \u00a0It&#8217;s a\u00a0bit plodding.<\/p>\n<p><strong>21. \u00a0Iggy Azalea featuring Jennifer Hudson &#8211; &#8220;Trouble&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UGLx4zzMdRA?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This has been hanging around\u00a0for ages &#8211; it&#8217;s moved 81-52-50-43-47-21, and\u00a0it&#8217;s cropped up in the midweeks before only to miss the final\u00a0top 40. \u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0the lead single from &#8220;Reclassified&#8221;, which is the special edition of Azalea&#8217;s debut album &#8220;New Classic&#8221;, but given a new name for some reason. \u00a0Soul is a change of pace for\u00a0her, at least, though Jennifer Hudson really makes the most impact here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YqeW9_5kURI\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>13. \u00a0Major Lazer &amp; DJ Snake featuring M\u00d8 &#8211; &#8220;Lean On&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Climbing 11. \u00a0This has now moved 48-38-24-13,\u00a0and\u00a0seems to be a rare case of a record gathering momentum after its release instead of before.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. \u00a0Lethal Bizzle featuring Diztortion &#8211; &#8220;Fester Skank&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kyVcEL0-iWg?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Oh, so close. \u00a0Lethal\u00a0Bizzle has been having hits sporadically since 2005, and\u00a0he&#8217;s never made the top 10. \u00a0This is the third time he&#8217;s got to 11, though &#8211; the others were &#8220;Pow! (Forward)&#8221; in 2005 and &#8220;RariWorkOut&#8221; last year.<\/p>\n<p>Producer Diztortion gets his first official chart credit, though he was also the producer on <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/mqCQx0t5qjw\" target=\"_blank\">Stylo G&#8217;s\u00a0&#8220;Soundbwoy&#8221;<\/a>, which made the top 20 in 2013. \u00a0He may not have got an official co-artist listing on that one, but the record itself credits him vigorously.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Fester Skank&#8221; is indeed named after Uncle Fester from the Addams Family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. \u00a0Dr Kucho! &amp; Gregor Salto featuring Ane Brun &#8211; &#8220;Can&#8217;t Stop Playing (Makes Me High)&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KSrOYPQiyFA?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Dr Kucho! is a Spanish DJ, Salto is Dutch, and\u00a0Ane Brun is a Norwegian singer. \u00a0This track actually dates from 2005, when Kucho! and Salto&#8217;s original version was a\u00a0middling hit in the Benelux\u00a0countries. \u00a0It&#8217;s now being reissued in an Oliver Helden remix, which is the version shown above. \u00a0Brun&#8217;s vocal is a new addition; the original version\u00a0had a spoken word sample which was, shall we say, less subtle. Helden&#8217;s version is an improvement on pretty much every metric, frankly.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E4IGcrXx3YI?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/jGflUbPQfW8\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>2. \u00a0OMI &#8211; &#8220;Cheerleader&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Climbing 25, now that it&#8217;s finally moved beyond streaming to actual sales. \u00a0And in similar vein&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth &#8211; &#8220;See You Again&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/RgKAFK5djSk?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Climbing from outside the top 20, again now that its streaming figures are supplemented by actual sales. \u00a0\u00a0Khalifa&#8217;s tribute to Paul Walker from\u00a0the\u00a0<em>Fast &amp; Furious<\/em> franchise\u00a0evidently has\u00a0broader appeal than that &#8211; after all,\u00a0he does keep it pretty general. \u00a0Strictly speaking this is Khalifa&#8217;s second number one, the first being his guest appearance on Maroon 5&#8217;s &#8220;Payphone&#8221; in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart, it&#8217;s a motley collection.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Ultimate Collection&#8221; by Paul Simon<\/strong> at 1. \u00a0It&#8217;s a greatest hits collection, obviously. \u00a0Only Simon&#8217;s fourth number 1 album &#8211; the others were his self-titled album from 1972, &#8220;Graceland&#8221; from 1986, and &#8220;Rhythm of the Saints&#8221; from 1990. \u00a0His biggest UK hit single (as a solo artist) was <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/uq-gYOrU8bA\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;You Can Call Me Al&#8221;<\/a>, which got to number 4 in 1986.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Glitterbug&#8221; by The Wombats<\/strong> at 5. \u00a0The Wombats have stopped having hit singles by even the most generous\u00a0definition of the term, even with continuing BBC support, but they&#8217;re still doing fine on the album chart. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/9MHmx9nvHqU\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Greek Tragedy&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Into the Wild Life&#8221; by Halestorm<\/strong> at 10. \u00a0This was number 1 in the midweeks, so boy, Halestorm\u00a0must have fans who buy on the first day. \u00a0Which is very odd, as the Pennsylvania rock band have never previously\u00a0made the album top 40. \u00a0This is their third album. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YGchlqCjj8A\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Amen&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Handwritten&#8221; by Shawn Mendes<\/strong> at 12. \u00a0Canadian guy who\u00a0apparently started on Vine. \u00a0(Which\u2026 not the ideal platform, surely?) \u00a0This was number 1 in the US and Canada.
