{"id":3019,"date":"2015-04-30T22:23:43","date_gmt":"2015-04-30T21:23:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=3019"},"modified":"2015-04-30T22:23:43","modified_gmt":"2015-04-30T21:23:43","slug":"charts-26-april-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=3019","title":{"rendered":"Charts &#8211; 26 April 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Luckily for me, as I finally get to this on Thursday night, it was a very quiet week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>32. \u00a0Skrillex &amp; Diplo featuring Justin Bieber &#8211; &#8220;Where Are \u00dc\u00a0Now&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YKS1xjqEv8o?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Well, that&#8217;s how the chart compilers are listing it &#8211; I thought\u00a0the official credit on this collaboration was meant to be &#8220;Jack \u00dc&#8221;, but no doubt this is what the record company asked for.\u00a0Diplo&#8217;s other current single, the Major Lazer track &#8220;Lean On&#8221;, climbs to 6 this week.<\/p>\n<p>If &#8220;Lean On&#8221; sees Diplo\u00a0veering ever closer to straight pop, the same applies with even greater force here. \u00a0And it&#8217;s barely recognisable as a Skrillex record at all. \u00a0You could see that as a broadening of the palette, but honestly,\u00a0this sounds more like a Justin Bieber record than anything\u00a0you&#8217;d expect from the star producers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>17. \u00a0Michael Calfan &#8211; &#8220;Treasured Soul&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IAdUzo4XmLk?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Calfan is a French producer, making his chart debut here. \u00a0The\u00a0vocal sample is uncredited, and I can&#8217;t find a clear statement about where it comes from, but it sounds like it might be a cut-up and pitch-shift of\u00a0Adele&#8217;s &#8220;Rolling in the Deep&#8221; (&#8220;Turn my sorrow into treasured gold \/ You&#8217;ll pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. \u00a0Clean Bandit &#8211; &#8220;Stronger&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_c_n0A3BFVE?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Clean Bandit in partnership\u00a0with Microsoft presents&#8221;? \u00a0That&#8217;s not something you expect to see at the start of a video. \u00a0No doubt it&#8217;s something we can expect to get used to. \u00a0Apparently there&#8217;s\u00a0a Microsoft-sponsored contest to work as a member of the\u00a0video crew (woo!), and some of it was shot on Lumias, so there you go.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s Clean Bandit&#8217;s\u00a0fourth top 10 hit. \u00a0The song originally appeared on the special edition of &#8220;New Eyes&#8221;, but this is a re-recording. \u00a0You&#8217;ll note that the singers are\u00a0both uncredited and completely absent from the video &#8211;\u00a0apparently, it&#8217;s Alex\u00a0Newell from\u00a0<em>Glee<\/em>, and one Sean Bass (whose sister Sharna sang on the earlier CB single &#8220;Extraordinary&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=RgKAFK5djSk\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>1. \u00a0Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth &#8211; &#8220;See You Again&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Second week &#8211; and this is starting to look like a\u00a0real change of behaviour at the top of the charts. \u00a0We&#8217;re used to a weekly turnover of number 1 singles, but out of the last six number 1s, five\u00a0have managed multiple weeks at the top. \u00a0(The exception was &#8220;King&#8221; by Years and Years.) \u00a0This last happened in spring 2011, so it&#8217;s not\u00a0<em>that<\/em> unheard of in recent times, but it&#8217;s\u00a0certainly not what we normally get.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Stages&#8221; by Josh Groban<\/strong> at 1. \u00a0This could be\u00a0another sign of the declining album market favouring acts who skew older; Groban has never previously got above number 9. \u00a0Anyway, it&#8217;s a collection of covers from musicals. \u00a0Groban was also the host of the US version of <em>Rising Star<\/em>, a singing competition with live home voting that made reasonable sense in its native Israel, but was an incomprehensible mess of time-zone-related qualifications by the time the Americans were finished with it.\u00a0 Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/fXnRf3TQcpk\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Bring Him Home.&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Sound &amp; Color&#8221; by Alabama Shakes<\/strong> at 6. \u00a0Rock band\u00a0from Alabama, obviously enough. \u00a0Their second album,\u00a0both top 10. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/x-5OX7CO26c\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Don&#8217;t Wanna Fight&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Whispers 2&#8221; by Passenger<\/strong> at 12. \u00a0Remember this guy? \u00a0&#8220;Let Her Go&#8221;? \u00a0Big breakthrough hit in 2013? \u00a0Well, that was two albums ago, and he hasn&#8217;t had a comparable hit since, so the chart positions are drifting down. \u00a0Unusually for an album, this is a charity release, with all profits going to assist Unicef in Liberia. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/kbialNJT69k\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Catch In The Dark&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Love Story&#8221; by Yelawolf<\/strong> at 25. \u00a0Rapper from Alabama. \u00a0He&#8217;s on Eminem&#8217;s label. \u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0his second\u00a0studio\u00a0album but the first time he&#8217;s charted in this country. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/it_04dk_97E\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Best Friend&#8221;<\/a> (featuring Eminem &#8211; a lot of Eminem, once he shows up).<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;5am&#8221; by Amber Run<\/strong> at\u00a036. \u00a0Debut album for a band from\u00a0Nottingham who&#8217;ve supported Kodaline.
