14 June 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Look, Britain, it was nice when you gave Jason Derulo a second week at number 1, because it kept up this year&#8217;s trend for a slow turnover at the top. \u00a0But three, Britain? \u00a0Really?<\/p>\n<p><b>34. \u00a0Ed Sheeran &#8211; &#8220;Photograph&#8221;<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nSDgHBxUbVQ?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->One of those late-in-the-promotional-cycle singles that exists mainly to remind\u00a0people that Ed Sheeran still has an album on sale, though it&#8217;s going to climb next week. \u00a0Apparently the video is\u00a0a genuine compilation of home videos from his childhood.<\/p>\n<p><strong>30. \u00a0Rudimental featuring Foy Vance &#8211; &#8220;Never Let You Go&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0TtA_oP1zoE?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>In one of those segue-friendly coincidences, here&#8217;s the chart debut for Ed Sheeran&#8217;s support act, Irish singer Foy Vance. \u00a0He&#8217;s the guest singer on the\u00a0second single from Rudimental&#8217;s upcoming\u00a0second album &#8220;We The Generation&#8221;. \u00a0This one&#8217;s going to climb too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>21. \u00a0Rixton &#8211; &#8220;We All Want The Same Thing&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zsOjijsMt9M?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Diminishing returns, though to be fair, it is the fourth\u00a0single from an already-released album. \u00a0Still, Rixton&#8217;s debut &#8220;Me and My Broken\u00a0Heart&#8221; was a number 1 in Britain and\u00a0had a degree of success internationally, but\u00a0they haven&#8217;t made the top 10 since &#8211; &#8220;Wait on Me&#8221; only got to 12, and &#8220;Hotel Ceiling&#8221;\u00a0failed to chart. \u00a0I&#8217;m assuming\u00a0it was a limited release or something, but it&#8217;s got a video, so it can&#8217;t have been that limited. \u00a0Their international profile seems to have tailed off too. \u00a0The actual single\u00a0could easily be Maroon 5,\u00a0and you&#8217;d think there&#8217;d be space in\u00a0the market for another band like that, but Rixton don&#8217;t seem to be filling it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>14. \u00a0Zedd\u00a0featuring Selena Gomez &#8211; &#8220;I Want You To Know&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/X46t8ZFqUB4?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is actually pretty good once it gets going, though\u00a0there&#8217;s a fairly generic first minute before you get there, and it&#8217;s still ultimately a good rendition of the tried-and-true EDM-pop formula. \u00a0Selena Gomez may have the higher\u00a0tabloid profile, but German producer Zedd is arguably\u00a0the bigger draw\u00a0in chart terms, given that his single with Hayley Williams, &#8220;Stay the Night&#8221;, got to number 2 last year. \u00a0This is actually a Ryan Tedder song, but not quite so instantly recognisable as usual.\u00a0 Gomez has had a couple of scattered records make the lower half of the top ten, but she&#8217;s never really succeeded in\u00a0converting her profile to consistent sales in this country.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. \u00a0Walk The Moon &#8211; &#8220;Shut Up And Dance&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6JCLY0Rlx6Q?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Walk The Moon are from Cincinnati and\u00a0this is the track that elevated them to one-hit wonder status in the US. \u00a0That was months ago, but naturally the British label has chosen to sit on it for ages. \u00a0It&#8217;s very\u00a0eighties guitar pop,\u00a0which the video is clearly happy to play up to. \u00a0A skim of their other videos suggests it&#8217;s pretty typical of their style, but it&#8217;s the one where they hit on the killer chorus. \u00a0The midweeks have it climbing, which is nice.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, it\u00a0has nothing to do with early nineties act Shut Up And Dance, who reached number 2 in 1992 with the unlikely Marc Cohen cover\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VvqWtoa-Lfs\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Raving I&#8217;m Raving&#8221;<\/a> (and also made the rather better <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/XwrleVGZKG8\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Autobiography of a Crackhead&#8221;<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Jason Derulo &#8211; &#8220;Want To Want Me&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is the first time\u00a0he&#8217;s lasted three weeks at the top, so\u00a0in chart terms it becomes his biggest hit.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Drones&#8221; by Muse<\/strong> at 1. \u00a0Their fifth\u00a0straight studio album to go to number 1 (a couple of live albums\u00a0fell short). \u00a0Like many bands of their vintage, they don&#8217;t need singles any more; <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/I5sJhSNUkwQ\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Dead Inside&#8221;<\/a> got to 71.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Alternative Light Source&#8221; by Leftfield<\/strong> at 6. \u00a0Leftfield were a hugely influential production duo\u00a0who released two albums back in the 90s, probably best remembered for <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/hZj9bi7YNmI\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Open Up&#8221;<\/a> (the one with John Lydon) and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/RyBQKaaDWTs\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Phat Planet&#8221;<\/a> (the one from the surfer advert). \u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0now a solo project by Neil Barnes,\u00a0and this is the first album under the Leftfield name this century. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/a4kwatovztI\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Universal Everything&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Sticky Fingers&#8221; by The Rolling Stones<\/strong> at 7. \u00a0A remastered version\u00a0of the number 1\u00a0from 1971, with a bunch of other stuff thrown in. \u00a0Single: an alternative version of <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/GuVax7iMM6Y\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Brown Sugar&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>&#8220;Beneath The Skin&#8221; by Of Monsters &amp; Men<\/b> at 10. \u00a0The follow-up to &#8220;My Head Is An Animal&#8221;, which got to number 3 three years ago &#8211; but then, it had &#8220;Little Talks&#8221; on it. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_-PgPZ3F9P4\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Crystal&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Very Best Of Glenn Miller&#8221;<\/strong> at 16. \u00a0I can only assume this is being discounted somewhere, because it&#8217;s the same album that got to number 4\u00a0five years ago. \u00a0Miller died in 1944, but that hasn&#8217;t stopped his back catalogue charting in twelve different compilation permutations over the decades. \u00a0Sample: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/AGOUldTrk-A\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Pennsylvania 6-5000&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;FFS&#8221; by FFS<\/strong> at 17. \u00a0It&#8217;s a collaboration between Franz Ferdinand and Sparks. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/rCxLpte5loY\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Johnny Delusional&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Ones And Zeros&#8221; by Young Guns<\/strong> at 21. \u00a0Rock band from High Wycombe. \u00a0It&#8217;s their third album, and\u00a0lands at about the same position as the previous one. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/B2zgh9GTscI\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Daylight&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Cauterize&#8221; by Tremonti<\/strong> at 23. \u00a0The second album from the modestly named band formed around guitarist Mark Tremonti, who was also a member of Creed and Alter Bridge. \u00a0(You\u00a0know, Alter Bridge. \u00a0They did <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ATp6YQL_NsQ\" target=\"_blank\">Edge&#8217;s theme music<\/a>.) \u00a0First time they&#8217;ve charted. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YmoMjMl_Jxw\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Another Heart&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Pete Townshend&#8217;s Classic Quarophenia&#8221; by Pete Townshend, Alfie Boe, Billy Idol &amp; The\u00a0Royal Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong> at 32. \u00a0Oh yes. \u00a0This is a real thing. \u00a0There&#8217;s a minor kerfuffle about whether it should have qualified for the\u00a0classical album chart (in which case it would have been number one);
