28 June 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The reign of Jason Derulo is over! \u00a0It only took four weeks! \u00a0And\u00a0the end is nigh in another respect &#8211; this is the penultimate Sunday chart. \u00a0Next week is the last\u00a0one before\u00a0we jump to Fridays with the &#8220;Global Release Date&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>32. \u00a0Duke Dumont &#8211; &#8220;The Giver&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6oAqOFz6QsU?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->A minor footnote to the chart career of Duke Dumont, who had two number 1s and a number 2 in 2013-4, but\u2026 well. \u00a0This is a more radio friendly version of <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/EoyDZD7e6Us\" target=\"_blank\">a track he originally put out on an American EP last autumn<\/a>. \u00a0The vocal is a pitch-shifted sample from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/fcSahvSFUFg\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Time to Love&#8221; by\u00a0Kim English<\/a>, which got to number 48 in 1995.<\/p>\n<p><strong>31. \u00a0Stereo Kicks &#8211; &#8220;Love Me So&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uvWo9pgsEcA?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>One of those random boy bands formed from cast-off auditions to fill out the\u00a0<em>X Factor<\/em> field. \u00a0This lot got knocked out\u00a0in week eight and\u00a0<em>didn&#8217;t<\/em> get signed by anyone &#8211; this is a self-released record written by a member of the band. \u00a0And\u00a0actually, it&#8217;s\u00a0not so bad. \u00a0But without promotion it&#8217;s going nowhere. \u00a0This was number one in the physical singles chart, which pretty much tells you how little physical sales matter these days.<\/p>\n<p><strong>17. \u00a0James Bay &#8211; &#8220;Let It Go&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GsPq9mzFNGY?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0is on Bay&#8217;s album, but it was released as a single as long ago as last May, and hasn&#8217;t previously made the top 40. \u00a0It&#8217;s now officially being re-promoted as the\u00a0&#8220;next&#8221; single from the album, apparently because it did pretty well in\u00a0Australia and New Zealand when they used it as a single there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. \u00a0Flo Rida\u00a0featuring Robin Thicke &amp; Verdine White\u00a0&#8211; &#8220;I Don&#8217;t Like It, I Love It&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Tw8mpgccugc?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>I\u00a0like the idea that Flo Rida is the last man living who still thinks &#8220;I Don&#8217;t Like It, I Love It&#8221; is a good line. \u00a0This is a man who is blown away by the wit of Simon Cowell.<\/p>\n<p>Robin Thicke, you&#8217;ll remember from That Record a couple of years back. \u00a0The other &#8220;featuring&#8221;\u00a0credit is more\u00a0unusual, though. \u00a0Verdine White was the bass player from Earth, Wind &amp; Fire, and you don&#8217;t often see bass players getting a separate listing. \u00a0This marks the first time White has been in the top 10 since 1981, though fortunately it&#8217;s some way off being his biggest UK hit &#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Gs069dndIYk\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;September&#8221;<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Lrle0x_DHBM\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Let&#8217;s Groove&#8221;<\/a> both got to 3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. \u00a0Walk The Moon &#8211; &#8220;Shut Up And Dance&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Worth flagging up that this has actually hung around, moving 8-5-4\u00a0since its debut. \u00a0Wasn&#8217;t expecting that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. \u00a0Lost Frequencies &#8211; &#8220;Are You With Me&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VjHMDlAPMUw?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Acoustic guitars, speeded-up sounding vocals\u2026\u00a0ah,\u00a0I see where this is going. \u00a0And yes,\u00a0it&#8217;s another of those unlikely remixes that seems to emerge from\u00a0Eurodance periodically these days. \u00a0This time, the producer has better lawyers than the original artist; Lost\u00a0Frequencies is the Belgian remixer. \u00a0This record\u00a0was a number 1 in Belgium,\u00a0Austria, Germany and Switzerland, and went top 5 in several other parts of Europe. \u00a0The original, also called &#8220;Are You With Me&#8221;, is a 2012 album track by Easton Corbin,\u00a0a\u00a0fairly successful US country singer, but pretty much unknown outside the borders.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zGCyl_tIJDE?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s probably not\u00a0got many expectations of an international career either &#8211; mainstream country acts seem to be pretty realistic about the prospects there. \u00a0The Lost Frequencies track is actually built around\u00a0part of the verse of Corbin&#8217;s song, but since it&#8217;s the best bit, you can&#8217;t fault the judgment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Tinie Tempah featuring Jess Glynne &#8211; &#8220;Not Letting Go&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nsDwItoNlLc?rel=0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the\u00a0lead single from his\u00a0third album, and it seems to be\u00a0his summery love\u00a0song. \u00a0After a three year break\u00a0&#8211; albeit one where he&#8217;s been cropping up fairly regularly as a guest rapper &#8211; this isn&#8217;t quite what I was expecting. \u00a0It&#8217;s the sort of record you make if you&#8217;re embracing your status as part of the pop establishment\u2026 which I guess is fair enough, I just wasn&#8217;t necessarily expecting him to do it.\u00a0 \u00a0The\u00a0chorus sounds awfully familiar, but it doesn&#8217;t seem to be a sample, so maybe it&#8217;s just one of those things that seems timeless.<\/p>\n<p>Tinie gets his sixth UK number 1, following &#8220;Pass Out&#8221; (2010), &#8220;Written in the Stars&#8221; (2010), Rita Ora&#8217;s &#8220;R.I.P.&#8221; (2012), DVBBS &amp; Borgeous&#8217;s &#8220;Tsunami (Jump)&#8221; (2014), and Cheryl Cole&#8217;s &#8220;Crazy Stupid Love&#8221; (2014). \u00a0Glynne gets her third number 1, all of them as a guest\u00a0singer &#8211; the others were Clean Bandit&#8217;s &#8220;Rather Be&#8221; and Route 94&#8217;s &#8220;My Love&#8221;, both last year.<\/p>\n<p>The midweeks show it lasting a single week at number 1, but\u00a0these days that doesn&#8217;t\u00a0necessarily mean anything.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;How Big, How\u00a0Blue, How\u00a0Beautiful&#8221; by Florence &amp; The Machine<\/strong> rebounds to 1.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;My Love is Cool&#8221; by Wolf Alice<\/strong> at 2. \u00a0Four piece guitar\u00a0band from North London with their debut album. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/g6vEE3Plk48\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Giant Peach&#8221;<\/a>. \u00a0And, wow, it&#8217;s\u00a0very circa-1990 indie, isn&#8217;t it?<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Get to Heaven&#8221; by Everything Everything<\/strong> at 7. \u00a0Former Mercury nominees, now on their third album. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/TOUuWZ8-hBg\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Distant Past&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Coming\u00a0Home&#8221; by Leon Bridges<\/strong> at 8. \u00a0US soul singer, debut album. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/MTrKkqE9p1o\" target=\"_blank\">The title track <\/a>did pretty well in streaming.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Pageant Material&#8221; by Kacey Musgraves<\/strong> at 11. \u00a0Country music &#8211; which doesn&#8217;t usually get this far up the chart. \u00a0Her previous album &#8220;Same Trailer, Different Park&#8221; got to 39 in the UK. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nGIUtLO_x8g\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Biscuits&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>&#8220;No Place in Heaven&#8221; by Mika<\/b> at 19. \u00a0I know, it&#8217;s been a good long while he&#8217;s crossed my mind either. \u00a0But Mika is still selling plenty of records on mainland Europe; he&#8217;s also a judge on the French version of\u00a0<em>The Voice<\/em>, which, in an intriguing linguistic compromise, is not called <em>La Voix<\/em>, but is instead called\u00a0<em>The Voice: la plus belle voix<\/em>.\u00a0 Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cH30OyVXuK0\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Talk About You&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Dark Before Dawn&#8221; by Breaking Benjamin<\/strong> at 34. \u00a0Rock band from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. \u00a0This is\u00a0their first chart\u00a0appearance in the UK. \u00a0Technically it&#8217;s their fifth album, but frontman Benjamin Burnley is the only member to have been\u00a0in any previous line-up. \u00a0They&#8217;re ridden with\u00a0angst. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/fVIh1MFWDVw\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Failure&#8221;<\/a>. \u00a0(Strobe warning.)<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Skills in Pills&#8221; by Lindemann<\/strong> at 35. \u00a0This is a side project of Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann,\u00a0in collaboration with\u00a0Peter T\u00e4gtgren of Swedish industrial\u00a0metallists PAIN. \u00a0Unusually, he&#8217;s singing in English here. \u00a0It ain&#8217;t subtle. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/QWE_M0CX9So\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Praise Abort&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;About the Young Idea: The Very Best of the Jam&#8221;<\/strong> at 36. \u00a0This is a limited edition compilation tying in with a retrospective exhibition. \u00a0Either it&#8217;s very limited, or everyone who wants a Jam compilation has got one. \u00a0Sample track: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YfpRm-p7qlY\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Town Called Malice&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The reign of Jason Derulo is over! \u00a0It only took four weeks! \u00a0And\u00a0the end is nigh in another respect &#8211;
