1 July 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re going through another of those phases\u00a0when all the X-books are\u00a0in mid-storyline (not least because the three core X-Men titles are in the middle of a supposed crossover that isn&#8217;t actually crossing over), and with one thing or another I&#8217;ve been distracted from following up some of the other regulars,\u00a0but we should be getting back to\u00a0a more normal\u00a0posting schedule over the next week or so. \u00a0In the meantime, on the singles chart, all is quiet &#8211; three new entries,\u00a0all outside the top 30.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/1xznGGDReH1oQq0xzbwXa3\" target=\"_blank\">1. \u00a0Drake featuring Wizkid and Kyla &#8211; &#8220;One Dance&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s twelve weeks. \u00a0This is entirely due to continued streaming\u00a0popularity &#8211; at this point, &#8220;One Dance&#8221; is number 9 on the pure sales chart &#8211; and\u00a0there are starting to be murmurings that the\u00a0chart compilers\u00a0may be looking again at the weighting of sales to streams. \u00a0Time will tell whether these sorts of extended runs are going to be\u00a0the new normal in the current era, but it does seem to be something of a fluke, given more normal turnover of records at number 2 over the same period:\u00a0&#8220;Cheap Thrills&#8221; by Sia (3 weeks), &#8220;This is What You Came For&#8221; by Calvin Harris\u00a0featuring Rihanna (2 weeks), &#8220;Can&#8217;t Stop The Feeling&#8221; by Justin Timberlake (4 weeks) and &#8220;This Girl&#8221; by Kungs vs Cookin&#8217; on Three Burners (3 weeks).<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/11KJSRSgaDxqydKYiD2Jew\">3. \u00a0Drake featuring Rihanna &#8211; &#8220;Too Good&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Not many new entries this week, but to be fair, there are a decent number of climbers. \u00a0This one has been in the top 10 since May, but it&#8217;s reaching a new peak. \u00a0&#8220;Controlla&#8221; is a non-mover this week at 23, and &#8220;Work&#8221; by Rihanna featuring Drake\u00a0holds steady at 35. \u00a0Rihanna is also on &#8220;This is\u00a0What You Came For&#8221;, which is still at 4. \u00a0So, you know, tremendous diversity in the top 40. \u00a0This week&#8217;s top 40 also includes two Calvin Harris records, three\u00a0with Zara Larsson, and two by Jonas Blue.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/11KJSRSgaDxqydKYiD2Jew\">6. \u00a0Adele &#8211; &#8220;Send My Love To Your New Lover&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Probably helped by the BBC covering her\u00a0headlining appearance at Glastonbury, this climbs from 15 &#8211; the album goes back to number 1 as well, for what that&#8217;s worth these days, which isn&#8217;t much. \u00a0This has now beaten the number 9 peak of her previous single &#8220;When We Were Young&#8221; and gives her a total of eight top 10 hits.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/q31tGyBJhRY\">12. \u00a0Calum Scott &#8211; &#8220;Dancing on my Own&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Up another four places. \u00a0Although this is an independent release, Scott has now signed to a proper label who are presumably now\u00a0giving him some promotional support.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/fEOyePhElr4\">15. \u00a0Dua Lipa &#8211; &#8220;Hotter Than Hell&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This has moved 18-17-15, which is achingly slow, but at least it&#8217;s upwards &#8211; which probably is enough to count as a successful launch.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Io0fBr1XBUA\">16. \u00a0The Chainsmokers featuring Daya &#8211; &#8220;Don&#8217;t Let Me Down&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Climbing from 24 to give them a third top 20 hit. \u00a0They&#8217;ve yet to make the top 10.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/YykjpeuMNEk\">19. \u00a0Coldplay &#8211; &#8220;Hymn for the Weekend&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Rebounding from number 30\u00a0thanks to Glastonbury coverage. \u00a0This peaked at number 6 in March, but it never quite left the top 40. \u00a0The current single is\u00a0<em>meant<\/em> to be <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/BPNTC7uZYrI\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Up &amp; Up&#8221;<\/a>, but it&#8217;s struggling to get traction, and it languishes at number 71 this week. \u00a0It&#8217;s, well, very Coldplay, but it does have an technically impressive video.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BPNTC7uZYrI\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/1ekZEVeXwek\" target=\"_blank\">22. \u00a0Ariana Grande &#8211; &#8220;Into You&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This has gone 40-34-26-22. \u00a0She&#8217;s had bigger hits but this is doing alright for the third single from an album.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/n49qi-dU9IE\" target=\"_blank\">26. \u00a0Kent Jones &#8211; &#8220;Don&#8217;t Mind&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Climbing from last week&#8217;s number 39, so this week&#8217;s highest climber.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/pr0p4Jt7LhM\" target=\"_blank\">29. \u00a0Shawn Mendes &#8211; &#8220;Treat You\u00a0Better&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This entered at\u00a0number 31\u00a0on 16 June, dropped out of the top 40, and then immediately started climbing back up again. \u00a0It&#8217;s still miles off the number 1 he got with &#8220;Stitches&#8221;. \u00a0It still doesn&#8217;t have an official video, but since\u00a0I mentioned it, it does at least have an official live version on YouTube.<\/p>\n<p><strong>34. \u00a0Dizzee Rascal featuring Calvin Harris &#8211; &#8220;Hype&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.spotify.com\/?uri=spotify%3Atrack%3A6QkiPUXtsyXWcHiAaFXam5\" width=\"300\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Y0ur highest new entry! \u00a0No video for this yet, so I imagine it&#8217;s going to climb. \u00a0These two previously collaborated on &#8220;Dance Wiv Me&#8221;, a number 1 in 2008. \u00a0Dizzee Rascal has\u00a0five number ones to his credit, but the last one was six years ago now. \u00a0Admittedly, aside from a cameo earlier in the year, he hasn&#8217;t released anything since 2013. \u00a0Presumably this is the lead single from a new album, but nobody seems to have actually said as much.<\/p>\n<p><strong>38. \u00a0Jonas Blue featuring JP Cooper &#8211; &#8220;Perfect Strangers&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Ey_hgKCCYU4\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The follow up to the thunderously unnecessary cover of &#8220;Fast Car&#8221;, which is still\u00a0sitting at 36. \u00a0This one is an original song,\u00a0and it&#8217;s\u00a0passable off-the-peg tropical house. \u00a0JP Cooper,\u00a0making his first chart appearance, is a\u00a0songwriter signed to Island. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/wtcDNGmxaEI\" target=\"_blank\">His own stuff is a bit more interesting.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>40. \u00a0Christine &amp; The Queens &#8211; &#8220;Tilted&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9RBzsjga73s\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the English-language\u00a0version of the track I used for the album last week. \u00a0Incidentally, the video\u00a0is\u00a0part of a series of colour-coded videos\u00a0for tracks from the\u00a0album\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ZzFYmz2lfT4\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Saint Claude&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0is basically the same idea on a red version of the same set, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/aWzlneLOkzk\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Jonathan&#8221;<\/a> is purple, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/PPjazi4mQSQ\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Paradis Perdus&#8221;<\/a> seems to be grey, I guess&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart&#8230; not much, because\u00a0everyone leaves this way clear for resurgent sales on Glastonbury albums, which I can&#8217;t be bothered listing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;25&#8221; by Adele<\/strong> returns to number 1, partly because of Glastonbury and partly because\u00a0its streaming exclusivity period has ended. \u00a0&#8220;21&#8221; re-enters at 10, and &#8220;19&#8221; at 12.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Earth&#8221; by Neil Young &amp; Promise of the Real<\/strong>\u00a0is the highest new entry at 14. \u00a0A follow-up to last year&#8217;s\u00a0extraordinarily heavy-handed album &#8220;The Monsanto Years&#8221;. \u00a0Strictly, this was released the previous week, but as a Tidal streaming exclusive, which did not trouble the chart in the slightest. \u00a0It&#8217;s the CD release that gets into the chart now. \u00a0Being a Tidal exclusive, there&#8217;s nothing to link to, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/UC2DpGaykaI\" target=\"_blank\">so here&#8217;s a track from the previous album<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Mountain Will Fall&#8221;
