Not so unusual for this remarkably slow\u00a0year on the singles chart. \u00a0It tops a completely static top 4.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. \u00a0Neiked &#8211; &#8220;Sexual&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UQbyGTKSzpI\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/zuIciiAgOAc\" target=\"_blank\">There is actually an official lyric video for this now, but it&#8217;s wretchedly unsubtle<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; I mean, seriously, it&#8217;s\u00a0<em>really terrible<\/em>, it completely tanks the gentle playfulness that makes the single work &#8211;\u00a0so\u00a0let&#8217;s have the Radio 1 acoustic version instead. \u00a0This is a new peak, ten\u00a0weeks\u00a0onto its chart run. \u00a0I last mentioned it when it got to number 6 in week four, but it hasn&#8217;t actually dropped below 8 since then.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/yXQViqx6GMY\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>6. \u00a0Mariah Carey &#8211; &#8220;All\u00a0I Want For Christmas Is You&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Climbing from last week&#8217;s number 29. \u00a0It comes back every year, but it hasn&#8217;t been this high since 2007, when it got to number 4. \u00a0What&#8217;s happening here, of course, is that we&#8217;re now in the streaming era, and everyone has a Christmas playlist on the front page of their app,\u00a0and so&#8230; well, keep reading.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/yXQViqx6GMY\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>8. \u00a0Rag&#8217;N&#8217;Bone Man &#8211; &#8220;Human&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Up three places, to\u00a0deservedly enter the top ten.<\/p>\n<p><strong>16. \u00a0The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl &#8211; &#8220;Fairytale of New York&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/j9jbdgZidu8\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Hello again, old friend. \u00a0&#8220;Fairytale of New York&#8221; has been back every year since 2005. \u00a0It usually gets higher than this, so expect it to climb. \u00a0It&#8217;s still yet to match the number 2 peak of its original run at Christmas\u00a01987. \u00a0Their only other top ten hit was <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/TzWs3zd_BZQ\" target=\"_blank\">their version of &#8220;The Irish Rover&#8221;<\/a> (with the Dubliners) which got to number 8\u00a0the same year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>19. \u00a0Wham! &#8211; &#8220;Last Christmas&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E8gmARGvPlI\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Another\u00a0perennial of the digital era, though it did miss the top 40 in 2010, and it struggled in a few other years. \u00a0It got to 18 last year, though, so it seems to be in resurgence. \u00a0The original\u00a0release (a double A-side with <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Yf_Lwe6p-Cg\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Everything She Wants&#8221;<\/a>) spent five weeks stuck at\u00a0number 2 in 1984, locked behind Band Aid. \u00a0Wham! did have four\u00a0number 1s between 1984 and 1986, though: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/pIgZ7gMze7A\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Wake Me Up Before You Go Go&#8221;<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/BFwOs-jy53A\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Freedom&#8221;<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/kAGl8RWTSqc\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;I&#8217;m Your Man&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/cCqEyJc-wdk\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;The Edge of Heaven&#8221;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>21. \u00a0Zara Larsson &#8211; &#8220;I Would Like&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9bzMaiczpXU\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Oh hey, a regular release! \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/lc0omkeQybU\" target=\"_blank\">This was on the\u00a0<em>X Factor<\/em> results show<\/a>, but the impact of that is not what it once was. \u00a0Anyhow,\u00a0Zara Larsson would like to get to know you and to get under your sexy body, because, you know, it&#8217;s one of those songs. \u00a0It&#8217;s alright. \u00a0Neiked do it better.<\/p>\n<p><strong>28. \u00a0Shakin&#8217; Stevens &#8211; &#8220;Merry Christmas Everyone&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZeyHl1tQeaQ\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Boy,\u00a0that opening minute of the video is weird and cheerless, isn&#8217;t it? \u00a0Did anybody even show videos\u00a0end to end in 1985, when this had its two weeks at number one?\u00a0 Anyway, this is a relatively recent addition to the pantheon of regular returnees &#8211; it made the top 40 in 2007 and 2008 before vanishing\u00a0until scraping a week at number 38 in 2014, but it got to number 26 last year, so it&#8217;s coming back into favour.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/NmCFY1oYDeM\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>30. \u00a0John Legend &#8211; &#8220;Love Me Now&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Climbing another three.<\/p>\n<p><strong>34. \u00a0Charli XCX featuring Lil Yachty &#8211; &#8220;After the Afterparty&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OM33anTtEVE\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This had the misfortune to land at number 41 last week, when the\u00a0chart was flooded with Weeknd album tracks (most of which are gone, by the way). \u00a0But it charts now. \u00a0Charli XCX never really made it as the pop icon that people had her pegged as, did she? \u00a0This is pretty weak, frankly, and that zombie video is about two years too late. \u00a0Technically she has a\u00a0UK number one to her credit,\u00a0since the UK\u00a0label gave her a highly dubious featured artist credit on Icona Pop&#8217;s &#8220;I Love It&#8221; (which she wrote),\u00a0and she had three other top ten hits in 2014-2015,\u00a0albeit that two of them\u00a0were collaborations with higher profile artists. \u00a0But it looks like we&#8217;re back to square one with this. \u00a0It&#8217;s the first single from her new\u00a0album and it&#8217;s been out for five weeks by this point.<\/p>\n<p><strong>37. \u00a0Wizzard &#8211; &#8220;I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZoxQ4Ul_DME\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a very festive still image, Vevo, well done. \u00a0Anyway, this is another hardy perennial, having charted every year since 2011 (oddly, it missed the top 40 in 2009 and 2010). \u00a0Originally a number 4 hit in 1973, the\u00a0pub trivia fact to remember about this single is that it\u00a0<em>isn&#8217;t<\/em> Wizzard&#8217;s biggest hit &#8211;\u00a0they had two number 1s in 1973, with <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/kKhFe9op66k\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;See My Baby Jive&#8221;<\/a> and &#8220;Angel Fingers&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7ddz-rRI16k\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>39. \u00a0Michael Bubl\u00e9 &#8211; &#8220;It&#8217;s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/X2fvHBoJF04\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;what? \u00a0This version of &#8220;It&#8217;s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas&#8221; comes from Bubl\u00e9&#8217;s 2011\u00a0Christmas album, and it&#8217;s\u00a0floated around the lower end of the top 75 every year since, but it&#8217;s never previously made the top 40. \u00a0As far as I can see, this is the first time any version of this song has made the top 40 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nmc9gfowJmk\" target=\"_blank\">Perry Como&#8217;s version<\/a>\u00a0came\u00a0close a couple of times, but that&#8217;s it. \u00a0As an MOR act, Bubl\u00e9 is more of an albums guy, but he has had\u00a0occasional\u00a0proper crossover hits,\u00a0the biggest being &#8220;Haven&#8217;t Met You Yet&#8221;, which\u00a0reached number 5 in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart, pretty much a dead week.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Blue &amp; Lonesome&#8221; by The Rolling Stones<\/strong>\u00a0is their eleventh\u00a0number 1 album &#8211; or twelfth, if you count the 2010 reissue of &#8220;Exile On Main Street&#8221;. \u00a0The last time a completely new Rolling Stones album made number 1 was in 1994 with &#8220;Voodoo Lounge&#8221;, but they&#8217;ve come close several times since. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/qEuV82GqQnE\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Ride &#8216;Em On Down&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;&#8216;Awaken, My Love!'&#8221; by Childish Gambino<\/strong> at 34. \u00a0His third album and the first\u00a0to come anywhere near charting in the UK. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_hZCsgcKa-g\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Me And Your Mama&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Darkness and Light&#8221; by John Legend<\/strong> at 35. \u00a0That&#8217;s surprisingly low for a new John Legend album, particularly when he&#8217;s got a minor hit; he&#8217;s never previously wound up below 26 (and albums\u00a0rarely climb), and his last album got to number 2.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Look at the date. \u00a0What do you\u00a0think\u00a0is going to happen?
