10 February 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not much happening, but let&#8217;s run through it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/JGwWNGJdvx8\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>1. \u00a0Ed Sheeran &#8211; &#8220;Shape of You&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>You amaze me. \u00a0That&#8217;s five weeks, and &#8220;Castle on the Hill&#8221; remains at number 2. \u00a0This is a new record for the longest run at numbers 1 and 2 for a single artist&#8230; but\u00a0it&#8217;s one of those records which is going to be\u00a0broken more routinely as the digital era\u00a0allows for multiple tracks to be available at once, and as the charts slow\u00a0down. \u00a0The previous record holder was Justin Bieber, who managed four straight weeks at the tail end of 2015 (and was only stopped by Christmas); before that, the record had been stuck at three since the Beatles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. \u00a0Stormzy &#8211; &#8220;Big For Your Boots&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dFOErVWlsxg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Highest new entry. \u00a0This matches\u00a0his previous peak\u00a0of number 8 for &#8220;Shut Up&#8221;\u00a0in December 2015, but that was the result of a download campaign for the Christmas chart &#8211; this\u00a0is a legit top ten hit. \u00a0It&#8217;s his first new material in nine months and it&#8217;s promoting an\u00a0imminent album, &#8220;Gang Signs &amp; Prayer&#8221;. \u00a0Good video, too &#8211;\u00a0straightforward but very well shot.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/7F37r50VUTQ\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>9. \u00a0Zayn &amp; Taylor Swift &#8211; &#8220;I Don&#8217;t Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker)&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Making the top ten in its ninth week, now that the movie release is drawing near. \u00a0This is a bit more like the sort of performance you&#8217;d expect from a Taylor Swift single.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/mgI_pH8TOVY\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>10. \u00a0Dua Lipa &#8211; &#8220;Be The One&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Up one place, to give her her first top ten hit in her own right. \u00a0She was in this slot\u00a0last week\u00a0as a guest on Sean Paul&#8217;s &#8220;No Lie&#8221;, which drops back to 13 this time round.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/e2vBLd5Egnk\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>14. \u00a0Martin Garrix &amp; Dua Lipa &#8211; &#8220;Scared to be Lonely&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Yes, that&#8217;s three Dua Lipa tracks between 10 and 14. \u00a0This one is up nine places, so it&#8217;s got a decent shot of making the top ten next week.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ACPd7HSZkc0\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>17. \u00a0Sage the Gemini &#8211; &#8220;Now And Later&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Up another four.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/57XGVrDF4FI\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>24. \u00a0Tinie Tempah featuring Tinashe &#8211; &#8220;Text From Your Ex&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Up ten, so this is\u00a0finally getting some momentum after a sluggish start.<\/p>\n<p><strong>25. \u00a0Train &#8211; &#8220;Play That Song&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/J5qWnG5RQTk\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Huh, really? \u00a0Because the album was out last week. \u00a0And&#8230; boy, that&#8217;s a video\u00a0that kills my goodwill in the first twenty seconds, if ever\u00a0there was one. \u00a0Toxically twee.<\/p>\n<p>Train\u00a0have had a reasonably\u00a0consistent album career\u00a0in the US, but their appearance on the UK singles chart have been few and far between &#8211; their only previous\u00a0hits were &#8220;Drops of Jupiter&#8221; (number 10 in 2001), &#8220;Hey Soul Sister&#8221; (18 in 2010) and &#8220;Drive By&#8221; (6 in 2012). \u00a0This song, of course, is a semi-cover of &#8220;Heart &amp; Soul&#8221;, a Hoagy Carmichael song originally recorded by Larry Clinton &amp; His Orchestra with\u00a0Bea Wain, which was a US number 1 in 1939. \u00a0And hey, it has a video!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YsIL07eOqOU\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That version of &#8220;Heart &amp; Soul&#8221; has never charted in the UK, largely\u00a0because the UK singles chart didn&#8217;t exist until the fifties. \u00a0The song was, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/q-7gfpdvjwc\" target=\"_blank\">a number 24 hit for Jan and\u00a0Dean in 1961<\/a> in a version that&#8217;s&#8230; well, it&#8217;s vaguely surf-y, I guess.<\/p>\n<p><strong>29. \u00a0Snakehips &amp; M\u00d8 &#8211; &#8220;Don&#8217;t Leave&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CQGcfudKBBs\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This entered at 33 five weeks ago, but it didn&#8217;t have a video then, and it&#8217;s now making a comeback.<\/p>\n<p><strong>34. \u00a0James Arthur &#8211; &#8220;Safe Inside&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2TtgkKZNTa8\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A slow start for the follow-up to last year&#8217;s number 1 &#8220;Say You Won&#8217;t Let Go&#8221;,\u00a0but it&#8217;s only been out two weeks, so this is still well within the parameters\u00a0of\u00a0modern hits.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart, the new entries are top-heavy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Little Fictions&#8221; by Elbow<\/strong> enters at 1. \u00a0That&#8217;s their second number 1 album, following 2014&#8217;s &#8220;The Take Off And Landing Of Everything&#8221;. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/ONQ25RW585w\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Gentle Storm&#8221;.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Heavy Fire&#8221; by Black Star Riders<\/strong> at 6. \u00a0That&#8217;s the name\u00a0currently used by what was previously the final (2012)\u00a0incarnation of Thin Lizzy. \u00a0It&#8217;s their third album under that name, and the highest position to date. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/SvcNNeiMl90\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Testify Or Say Goodbye&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Process&#8221; by Sampha<\/strong> at 7. \u00a0Debut album from a writer\/producer\u00a0with a track record collaborating with the likes of Drake. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/_NSuIYwBxu4\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Safe in Sound&#8221; by Lower Than Atlantis<\/strong> at 8. \u00a0Rock. \u00a0This is their fifth album,\u00a0the third to chart, and the highest place to date. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/IjHBvUFSlBA\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Had Enough&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Joanne&#8221; by Lady Gaga<\/strong> re-enters at 11 following the Superbowl, which\u00a0must be a relief, since it only managed three weeks in the top 40 after its release in November. \u00a0&#8220;The Fame&#8221; also re-enters at 38.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;I Decided&#8221; by Big Sean<\/strong> at 12. \u00a0His highest place to date too. \u00a0Big Sean has\u00a0occasionally cropped up on the singles chart as a guest star, but he&#8217;s never had a UK hit in his own right. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/7cIkC7s3d2o\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Moves&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Not much happening, but let&#8217;s run through it. 1. \u00a0Ed Sheeran &#8211;
