7 April 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=3739\" target=\"_blank\">We did\u00a0a podcast this weekend! \u00a0It&#8217;s one post down!<\/a>\u00a0 Meanwhile, over in the UK singles chart, the era of Ed Sheeran glides serenely on&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JGwWNGJdvx8\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>1. \u00a0Ed Sheeran &#8211; &#8220;Shape of You&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s 13 weeks at the top. \u00a0And for the fifth straight week, the biggest challenge comes from\u00a0Sheeran&#8217;s own &#8220;Galway Girl&#8221; at number 2. \u00a0The\u00a0rest of his chart domination is finally waning &#8211; other Sheeran tracks can be found at 6, 16, 22, 26, 29, 38 and 40. \u00a0Drake\u00a0settles for a mere three, all going down, so things really are returning to normal. \u00a0It&#8217;s taken a while, though.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->One more week would\u00a0see &#8220;Shape of You&#8221; match the combined total of &#8220;Bohemian Rhapsody&#8221; (which was number one twice). \u00a0But sales have slowly been tailing off down to normal levels, and the midweeks have &#8220;Shape of You&#8221; finally &#8211;\u00a0<em>finally\u00a0<\/em>&#8211; dropping to 4. \u00a0So it looks like this is it. \u00a0Thirteen weeks. \u00a0A\u00a0quarter of the year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/aatr_2MstrI\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>3. \u00a0Clean Bandit featuring Zara Larsson &#8211; &#8220;Symphony&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Up one. \u00a0Clean Bandit\u00a0had\u00a0the number one\u00a0single before\u00a0&#8220;Shape of You&#8221;, and it was there a while too &#8211; we&#8217;ve had a mere two acts at number one since November.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/h--P8HzYZ74\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>9. \u00a0Zedd &amp; Alessia Cara &#8211; &#8220;Stay&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Up\u00a0two, giving Zedd his third top ten hit, following\u00a0&#8220;Stay The Night&#8221; from 2014 and last year&#8217;s Hailee Steinfeld track &#8220;Starving&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/9Ke4480MicU\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>10. \u00a0Julia Michaels &#8211; &#8220;Issues&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This has taken its\u00a0sweet time to build &#8211; 85-69-53-51-58-54-44-36-28-13-10, if you&#8217;re interested &#8211; but it&#8217;s now clearly a hit.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/PMivT7MJ41M\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>14. \u00a0Bruno\u00a0Mars &#8211; &#8220;That&#8217;s What I Like&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Up one. \u00a0Each to his own, Bruno.<\/p>\n<p><strong>17. \u00a0Little Mix &#8211; &#8220;No More Sad Songs&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HHCC4ndeJyE\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Not the highest new entry, because the album version of the track made number 39 four weeks ago\u00a0when the promotion kicked off. \u00a0Then it dropped straight out.\u00a0 It now has a video and a single mix with added Machine Gun\u00a0Kelly, though he doesn&#8217;t get a chart credit for it yet. \u00a0The\u00a0song&#8217;s a\u00a0perfectly decent &#8220;I am definitely over you and I am going out to party again, and did I mention that I&#8217;m definitely over you&#8221; number. \u00a0The video is pretty\u00a0terrible.<\/p>\n<p><strong>20. \u00a0Kendrick Lamar &#8211; &#8220;Humble&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tvTRZJ-4EyI\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>So this\u00a0<em>is\u00a0<\/em>the highest new entry. \u00a0It&#8217;s\u00a0the lead single from the new Kendrick Lamar album, and yes, it&#8217;s got a great hook,\u00a0but it&#8217;s still not an obvious record to make the singles chart. \u00a0He&#8217;s notched up a few hits as a guest, but this is only his second appearance in the top 40 under his own power. \u00a0(The other was &#8220;I&#8221;, which also got to number 20\u00a0in 2014.) \u00a0One theory has it that the target here is meant\u00a0to be Big Sean, since the backing vocals of the chorus are\u00a0pretty much cobbled together from his catchphrases.<\/p>\n<p><strong>25. \u00a0Calvin Harris featuring Young Thug, Pharrell Williams &amp; Ariana Grande &#8211; &#8220;Heatstroke&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.spotify.com\/?uri=spotify%3Atrack%3A1N90cV79gbBgO0bOs74Y0t\" width=\"300\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The second single from the next album, following &#8220;Slide&#8221;, which debuted at number 10 in March and&#8230; well, instantly dropped back to 23,\u00a0though it&#8217;s been trudging back up the chart since, currently sitting at 12. \u00a0That&#8217;s still a somewhat\u00a0underwhelming performance for the lead single from a Calvin Harris album, but &#8220;Heatstroke&#8221; seems to suggest that we are indeed looking at a whole album of Calvin\u00a0Harris\u00a0moving away from EDM\u00a0towards soul. \u00a0He was certainly in a rut, but whether this is going to pay commercial dividends\u00a0is another question.<\/p>\n<p>Young Thug is an Atlanta rapper who&#8217;s been around for years, but this is his first credit\u00a0in the top 40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35. \u00a0Future &#8211; &#8220;Mask Off&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/embed.spotify.com\/?uri=spotify%3Atrack%3A3rOSwuTsUlJp0Pu0MkN8r8\" width=\"300\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As it stands, this is technically an album track, but it&#8217;s being used as a\u00a0meme soundtrack,\u00a0so it&#8217;s been charting internationally. \u00a0The flute sample comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/7kpYvT7rc1PstHASHqokXo\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Prison Song&#8221;<\/a>, from the original cast recording of <em>Selma<\/em>, a 1970s musical\u00a0about\u00a0Martin Luther King. \u00a0Future gets his first hit in his own right, though he did\u00a0guest on\u00a0Maroon 5&#8217;s &#8220;Cold&#8221;, which re-enters at 39 this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>34. \u00a0Jason Derulo featuring Nicki Minaj &amp; Ty Dolla Sign &#8211; &#8220;Swalla&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NGLxoKOvzu4\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Well, that certainly wasn&#8217;t subtle. \u00a0Nicki Minaj can\u00a0carry this\u00a0kind of thing off. \u00a0Not so sure Derulo can, but then he&#8217;s never convinced me at anything much, and he&#8217;s still going regardless. \u00a0I think I&#8217;m right in saying this is the second\u00a0singles chart appearance for Ty Dolla Sign, the previous one being one Fifth Harmony&#8217;s &#8220;Work From Home&#8221; last year. \u00a0The chorus lyrics reference\u00a0ODB&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/WQJ2_T24JqY\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Shimmy Shimmy Ya&#8221;<\/a>, a single back in 1995.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;\u00f7&#8221; by Ed Sheeran<\/strong> is predictably still number 1 for a fifth week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Automaton&#8221; by Jamiroquai<\/strong> is the highest new entry at 4, which maintains their perfect record of making the top 10. \u00a0It&#8217;s their eighth album, and the first since 2010. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/rmlmOk4ubcU\" target=\"_blank\">The\u00a0title track<\/a> actually is something of a departure for them.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Silver Eye&#8221; by Goldfrapp<\/strong> at 6. \u00a0Their seventh album, and\u00a0the fifth in a row to make the top 10. \u00a0(Oddly, their two lowest placing studios albums are\u00a0the acclaimed debut &#8220;Felt Mountain&#8221; and the\u00a0follow-up with the breakthrough singles, &#8220;Black Cherry&#8221; &#8211; though\u00a0that one did hang around for a while.) \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/2euqyXXjmAo\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Anymore&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Kidz Bop&#8221; by Kidz Bop Kids<\/strong> at 7. \u00a0This is the UK version of a franchise that&#8217;s been around in the US since 2000, and basically consists of stage school kids doing toned down versions of pop hits. \u00a0Think Now albums if everything was a cover by S Club Juniors, basically. \u00a0Here&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/jVsqDdqZb2g\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;24K Magic&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Emperor of Sand&#8221; by Mastodon<\/strong> at 11. \u00a0From one extreme to the other, with\u00a0The Rock. \u00a0It&#8217;s their fourth hit album. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/gUGda7GdZPQ\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Show Yourself&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Triplicate&#8221; by Bob Dylan<\/strong> at 17. \u00a0His 38th album, and it&#8217;s another covers collection. \u00a0Number 17 is surprisingly low for a Dylan studio album, particularly as\u00a0older acts like him\u00a0tends to be holding up better in the declining market &#8211; he hasn&#8217;t missed the top 10 with a new studio album since a\u00a0Christmas record\u00a0in 2009. \u00a0Sample track: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/BJdKQ92-H_c\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;I Could Have Told You&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Let The Dancers Inherit The Party&#8221; by British Sea Power<\/strong> at 21. \u00a0That&#8217;s\u00a0a typical position for a\u00a0British Sea Power album. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/6kKvIoomSY8\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Keep on Trying (Sechs Freunde)&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Street Rituals&#8221;
