26 May 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a brief flurry of activity,\u00a0we&#8217;re settling back into the routine of\u00a0a handful of new entries per week,\u00a0some of which\u00a0go on to climb the chart, slowly, ever so slowly&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/kJQP7kiw5Fk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>1. \u00a0Luis Fonsi &amp; Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber &#8211; &#8220;Despacito&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Three weeks at number one. \u00a0Could be here a while, too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. \u00a0Liam Payne featuring Quavo &#8211; &#8220;Strip That Down&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/13CdKgFiiXQ\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->And there&#8217;s the fifth and final member of One Direction scoring a solo top ten hit. \u00a0Harry Styles is still in the top ten with &#8220;Sign of the Times&#8221;; Niall Horan is\u00a0lower down the top 40 with &#8220;Slow Hands&#8221;; Zayn Malik is just outside the top 40 with his current single &#8220;Still Got Time&#8221;. \u00a0And Louis Tomlinson had a number 2 hit last year.<\/p>\n<p>Quavo, of all people, also gets a\u00a0second concurrent top ten hit &#8211; he&#8217;s also on the DJ Khaled single &#8220;I&#8217;m The One&#8221;, which is holding steady at 2.<\/p>\n<p>The record&#8217;s\u00a0really not bad,\u00a0with its minimal bassline arrangement. \u00a0A ludicrous fifteen writers are credited for it. \u00a0Four of them are Payne himself, Steve Mac, Ed Sheeran (listen to it, of\u00a0<em>course\u00a0<\/em>it&#8217;s an Ed Sheeran number), and Quavo. \u00a0The other eleven\u00a0are there because if you squint a bit, the melody is quite close to &#8220;It Wasn&#8217;t Me&#8221; by Shaggy, so they&#8217;ve added everyone who was credited on\u00a0<em>that<\/em> song &#8211; which for its own sample-related reasons,\u00a0includes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whosampled.com\/sample\/12185\/Shaggy-Rikrok-It-Wasn%27t-Me-War-Smile-Happy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the entire line-up of 70s funk band War<\/a>. \u00a0You can see how this stuff gets out of control.<\/p>\n<p>For some reason the lyric video is trying way too hard to convince us that\u00a0Liam Payne from One Direction is actually big on the bling &#8211; gold teeth and diamonds? \u00a0That&#8217;s just not going to fly.<\/p>\n<p>Further down the top ten, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CTFtOOh47oo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>&#8220;Unforgettable&#8221; by\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><strong>French Montana featuring Swae Lee\u00a0<\/strong>climbs two places to number 6, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nfs8NYg7yQM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>&#8220;Attention&#8221; by Charlie Puth<\/strong><\/a> is up three\u00a0to 9. \u00a0And&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. \u00a0Ariana Grande &#8211; &#8220;One Last Time&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BPgEgaPk62M\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The attack on Ariana Grande&#8217;s concert in Manchester naturally led to some supportive downloading, and this is the track which was settled on. \u00a0(And it\u00a0is almost entirely downloads.) \u00a0Her biggest UK hits are her\u00a0two number 1s from 2014 &#8211; &#8220;Problem&#8221; and &#8220;Bang Bang&#8221;; another obvious candidate would\u00a0have been &#8220;Dangerous Woman&#8221;, the title song of the tour. \u00a0The title album does indeed\u00a0re-enter the album chart at 30. \u00a0But understandably enough,\u00a0people have gone for\u00a0&#8220;One Last Time&#8221;, the second single from\u00a0her 2015 album &#8220;My Everything&#8221;, which got to number 24 on its original release. \u00a0Strictly it&#8217;s meant to be\u00a0a break-up song, but\u00a0the chorus fits well,\u00a0and\u00a0it&#8217;s an underrated single anyway. \u00a0The original video (above)\u00a0had\u00a0a similar take on the song, and\u00a0it&#8217;s vaguely unsettling to see it in\u00a0this context.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12. \u00a0Jonas Blue featuring William Singe &#8211; &#8220;Mama&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qPTfXwPf_HM\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s highest climber, up ten places. \u00a0It&#8217;s got a video now, though it&#8217;s nothing\u00a0out of the ordinary &#8211; happy people in\u00a0a\u00a0pleasant vacation spot. \u00a0And it&#8217;s followed by a string of climbers which there&#8217;s not much to say about. \u00a0First up,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/WEFJnYMz0Ec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>&#8220;Pretty Girl&#8221; by Maggie Lindeman<\/strong><\/a> is up four to 17 in its second week. \u00a0Then&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>18. \u00a0Cheat Codes featuring Demi Lovato &#8211; &#8220;No Promises&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jn40gqhxoSY\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;which now has a politely post-apocalyptic video. \u00a0It&#8217;s up seven, giving Cheat Codes their second top 20 hit. \u00a0Number 22 is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/xvZqHgFz51I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>&#8220;Mask Off&#8221; by Future<\/strong><\/a>, which has been doggedly hovering around the mid-table for ages &#8211; it&#8217;s now moved\u00a033-26-24-25-24-26-27-22. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nBmNcLBaPUE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>&#8220;Slow Hands&#8221; by Niall Horan<\/strong><\/a> rebounds from 31 to 23.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35. \u00a0Selena Gomez &#8211; &#8220;Bad Liar&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YVtzQms7lps\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Samples &#8220;Psycho Killer&#8221; by Talking Heads, which is now forty years old. \u00a0David Byrne\u00a0has given it his blessing. \u00a0In an unusual gimmick, there&#8217;s <em>apparently\u00a0<\/em>a video for this which is\u00a0exclusive to\u00a0the Spotify mobile app and intended to be watched vertically. \u00a0But if you can figure out how to make it play, you&#8217;re doing better than me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>37. \u00a0Katy Perry featuring Migos &#8211; &#8220;Bon Appetit&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dPI-mRFEIH0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Ye gods. \u00a0I know it&#8217;s meant to be ironic and empowering in\u00a0the pay-off and all that but&#8230; that&#8217;s a really\u00a0unpleasant\u00a0video.\u00a0 Anyway, this entered at 40 three weeks ago, dropped straight out, and now rebounds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>40. \u00a0Katy Perry featuring Nicki Minaj &#8211; &#8220;Swish Swish&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Z18eMqK9BMM\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The other current Katy Perry promotional single. \u00a0It samples &#8220;Star 69&#8221; by Fatboy Slim &#8211; technically a number 10 hit in 2001,\u00a0but largely because\u00a0it was the double A-side of &#8220;Weapon of Choice&#8221;. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/E4KTsdDTiDs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Turns out it does have a video of its own<\/a>, though it&#8217;s not exactly one of Fatboy Slim&#8217;s best.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b>&#8220;\u00f7&#8221; by Ed Sheeran<\/b> returns to number 1 for its tenth week in total.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;One More Light&#8221; by Linkin Park<\/strong> at 4. \u00a0Their seventh studio album, all of which have been top ten. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/5dmQ3QWpy1Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Heavy&#8221;<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;50&#8221; by Engelbert Humperdinck<\/strong> at 5. \u00a0Celebrating 50 years of Engelbert\u00a0Humperdinck (before that, he was Arnold Dorsey). \u00a0It&#8217;s a greatest hits album with a couple of new tracks. \u00a0He had two number ones back in 1967, with <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/1CSZoCvrt99ILjXtsriZV3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Release Me&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/7z1yAnydzrN57ft4Nxr5YV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;The Last Waltz&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;World Be Gone&#8221; by Erasure<\/strong> at 6. \u00a0Their 17th album. \u00a0It&#8217;s their highest\u00a0chart position since &#8220;I Say I Say I Say&#8221; made number 1 back in 1994. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/track\/7z1yAnydzrN57ft4Nxr5YV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Love You To The Sky&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Best Of\u00a0The Kooks So Far&#8221;<\/strong> at 18, which is self-explanatory. \u00a0Their\u00a0biggest hit was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=wh_-IoHD6oM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Always Where I Need To Be&#8221;<\/a>, which reached number 3 in 2008.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Crooked Teeth&#8221; by Papa Roach<\/strong> at 20. \u00a0Blimey, the old guard are out in force today. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/HYLTsdeO2uA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Help&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Paris&#8221; by Rammstein<\/strong> at 27. \u00a0A live album\u00a0from a show back in 2012. \u00a0Sample track: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/U5HAEzEk8QM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Du Hast&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Songs From The Wood&#8221;
