{"id":3799,"date":"2017-06-10T20:47:55","date_gmt":"2017-06-10T19:47:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=3799"},"modified":"2017-06-10T20:47:55","modified_gmt":"2017-06-10T19:47:55","slug":"charts-9-june-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=3799","title":{"rendered":"Charts &#8211; 9 June 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime time television still sells records. \u00a0But first&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kJQP7kiw5Fk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>1. \u00a0Luis Fonsi &amp; Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber &#8211; &#8220;Despacito&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Five weeks at number one. \u00a0It&#8217;s the top\u00a0streaming single of the week, but it&#8217;s not the top seller. \u00a0That would be&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. \u00a0Ariana Grande &#8211; &#8220;One Last Time&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cshg5ktpPtI\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This re-entered the chart at 11\u00a0after the concert bombing two weeks ago, dropped to 12 last week, and now vaults to\u00a0number 2. \u00a0In part, this is due to an official re-issue as a charity single (the chart assimilates all versions of a song, so it&#8217;s treated as a climber rather than a new entry). \u00a0But it&#8217;s also thanks to the prime time coverage of the &#8220;One Love Manchester&#8221; charity concert which, as we shall see, sold quite a few records.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not her highest chart position &#8211; she made number 1 twice in 2014 with &#8220;Problem&#8221; and &#8220;Bang Bang&#8221;. \u00a0Also this week,\u00a0&#8220;Dangerous Woman&#8221; rebounds to 11 on the album chart, and &#8220;My Everything&#8221;\u00a0climbs back to 14.<\/p>\n<p>Number 5 is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=CTFtOOh47oo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>&#8220;Unforgettable&#8221; by French Montana featuring Swae Lee<\/strong><\/a>, climbing another place; number 6 is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qPTfXwPf_HM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>&#8220;Mama&#8221; by Jonas Blue featuring William Singe<\/strong><\/a>, up two.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. \u00a0Niall Horan &#8211; &#8220;Slow Hands&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nuS0lTxbL8Q\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>After moving 25-31-23-21, &#8220;Slow Hands&#8221; suddenly vaults into the top 10, and it seems reasonable to assume that the One Love Manchester concert had a fair amount to do with that. \u00a0On a sales chart, it\u00a0would be number 3. \u00a0<strong>&#8220;Pretty Girl&#8221; by Maggie Lindeman<\/strong> climbs another place to 14.<\/p>\n<p><strong>21. \u00a0Liam Gallagher &#8211; &#8220;Wall of Glass&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YdJc7-ZEuT0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Not the sort of thing you&#8217;d normally expect to register in the singles chart. \u00a0While\u00a0this is officially\u00a0his debut solo single, Beady Eye was basically a Liam Gallagher\u00a0vehicle, and their only top 40 appearance came in 2011, when &#8220;The Roller&#8221; managed a single week at number 31. \u00a0Liam&#8217;s appearance\u00a0at &#8220;One Love Manchester&#8221; seems the most likely explanation for this\u00a0anachronism &#8211; on a pure sales chart, &#8220;Wall of Glass&#8221; would have been number four.<\/p>\n<p><strong>23. \u00a0Camila Cabello &#8211; &#8220;Crying in the Club&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NlrYn_dZdqk\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s a member of\u00a0Fifth Harmony,\u00a0and this is her\u00a0first outright solo hit, though she did appear on Machine Gun Kelly&#8217;s &#8220;Bad\u00a0Things&#8221; back in January. Unusually, the video is actually a medley of &#8220;Crying in the Club&#8221; with another track from her album, &#8220;I Have Questions&#8221; &#8211; the single actually starts about two minutes in. The tune has an acknowledged lift from &#8220;Genie in a Bottle&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>25. \u00a0Oasis &#8211; &#8220;Don&#8217;t Look Back in Anger&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r8OipmKFDeM\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Back to the concert theme, although strangely\u00a0this\u00a0was performed by Chris Martin and Ariana Grande instead of Liam Gallagher. \u00a0(Mind you, it&#8217;s Noel who sings on the record.) \u00a0&#8220;Don&#8217;t Look Back in Anger&#8221; spent a week at number 1 in 1996, and hasn&#8217;t been in the chart since its original run. \u00a0&#8220;What&#8217;s The Story Morning Glory&#8221; climbs to 22 on the album chart, and &#8220;Definitely Maybe&#8221; re-enters at 35.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing going on further down the singles chart, so let&#8217;s move to the albums:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;\u00f7&#8221; by Ed Sheeran<\/strong> returns to number 1 for a third run, and its eleventh week in total.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Is This The Life We Really Want&#8221; by Roger Waters<\/strong> at 3. No videos, but <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/2XhQwji1ixgjca0XzkiTek\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the album is here<\/a>. \u00a0Easily his highest position for a solo album;\u00a0his previous best was number 8 for &#8220;Amused to Death&#8221; in 1992.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Dua Lipa&#8221; by Dua Lipa<\/strong> at 5. \u00a0A rare example of an album with plenty of hit singles on it; the biggest was <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/mgI_pH8TOVY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Be The One&#8221;<\/a>, which deservedly got to 9 earlier in the year.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Relaxer&#8221; by Alt-J<\/strong> at 6. \u00a0The previous album made number 1, but this is still respectable enough. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/rP0uuI80wuY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;In Cold Blood&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Last Young Renegade&#8221; by All Time Low<\/strong> at 7. \u00a0Again, a follow-up to a number 1\u00a0falling short but still doing okay. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/l0JwqXYgfts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Nice2KnoU&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Without a Word&#8221; by Hank Marvin<\/strong> at 9. \u00a0Hank Marvin\u00a0may have been releasing solo\u00a0albums since 1969 but the last four still made the top ten. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/8xHFDTO0PHU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here is his cover version of the theme to\u00a0<em>Doctor Who<\/em>.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Hopeless Fountain Kingdom&#8221; by Halsey<\/strong> at 12. \u00a0You know, Halsey. \u00a0She\u00a0had a number 1 last year as the guest singer on &#8220;Closer&#8221; by the Chainsmokers. \u00a0Well, this is her second album &#8211; the\u00a0the previous one, &#8220;Badlands&#8221; got to number 9. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/kzQTc0-iBX8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Now or Never&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;High Street Kid&#8221; by MoStack<\/strong> at 16. \u00a0Grime debut. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/9T1KbAGrPxc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Screw &amp; Brew&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Kissworld &#8211; The Best of Kiss&#8221;<\/strong> at 18. \u00a0Self-explanatory. \u00a0Their biggest UK hit singles were <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/8g4ygMGXU7Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Crazy Crazy\u00a0Nights&#8221;<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/F1yvQV7J47o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;God Gave Rock&#8217;N&#8217;Roll To You II&#8221;<\/a>, which made number 4 in 1987 and 1992 respectively.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Pop Goes Classical&#8221; by the Royal Liverpool\u00a0Philharmonic Orchestra<\/strong> at 25. \u00a0You have Classic FM to blame for this &#8211; in fact, the orchestra are barely credited on the sleeve. \u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/kZ0KLGFyQaQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Here&#8217;s the trailer video.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Home Counties&#8221; by Saint Etienne<\/strong> at 31. \u00a0It&#8217;s been five years since the last album, but they are still going. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/nOZQFxfhCiI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Heather&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Counterweight&#8221; by Thea Gilmore<\/strong> at 40. \u00a0She&#8217;s consistent if nothing else &#8211;\u00a0her last two albums got to 39. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/u6bVSnCkJN8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">&#8220;Sounds Good To Me&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prime time television still sells records. \u00a0But first&#8230;
