So, how’s that effort to speed up the charts coming along? \u00a0Well, not brilliantly. \u00a0True, there’s often a lull at this time of year – there seems to be a theory that promoting new music should go on hold over the holiday season – but strap in for the\u00a0skull-shuddering excitement\u00a0of an eleven-week number one and a chart with one new entry!<\/p>\n
1. \u00a0Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber – “Despacito”<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n Even\u00a0after three weeks of downweighting, “Despacito” is still – just – clinging on at number one. \u00a0So I suppose it’s time to start flagging up the records. \u00a0With two interruptions to its run,\u00a0we’re only concerned here with\u00a0total<\/em> weeks at number one,\u00a0and right now, “Despacito” is joint seventh on that list, level with Slim Whitman’s “Rose Marie” from 1955. \u00a0The next target is 14 weeks, shared by\u00a0Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” and\u00a0Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody”, but that’s a lot to ask of a record which is\u00a0only marginally still at\u00a0the top.<\/p>\n Further down,\u00a0“Feels” by Calvin Harris featuring Pharrell Williams, Katy Perry & Big Sean<\/a><\/strong> climbs to 3 (after three weeks stuck at 4). \u00a0“Sun Comes Up” by Rudimental featuring James Arthur<\/a><\/strong> moves 10-8 for a new peak. \u00a0“New Rules” by Dua Lipa<\/strong><\/a> continues to outperform my expectations by jumping 19-9 – this is her third top ten hit,\u00a0but she’s\u00a0yet to get past number 9. \u00a0“Subeme La Radio” by Enrique Iglesias featuring Sean Paul & Matt Terry<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0– in the UK version, at any rate – climbs 16-12. \u00a0“Sorry Not Sorry” by Demi Lavato<\/strong><\/a> is up 27-16,\u00a0so it’s now her biggest hit since “Cool For The Summer”\u00a0reached the top 10 in 2015. \u00a0More of her later – she’s competing with herself. \u00a0\u00a0“Chasing Highs” by Alma<\/a><\/strong> is up 24-18.<\/p>\n 21. \u00a0J Balvin & Willy William – “Mi Gente”<\/strong><\/p>\n
