3 November 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Right, this is late again. \u00a0I&#8217;ll flag up that there&#8217;s a <em>Jean Grey\u00a0<\/em>review one post down, by the way. \u00a0Meanwhile&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Camila Cabello featuring Young Thug &#8211; &#8220;Havana&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BQ0mxQXmLsk\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Blimey, a video which takes two and a half minutes to get to the start of the song? \u00a0For &#8220;Havana&#8221;? \u00a0Seriously? \u00a0Anyway, &#8220;Rockstar&#8221; is deposed after a four week run. \u00a0&#8220;Havana&#8221; has actually been the top selling track for about a month now, but it&#8217;s taken a while for streams to catch up. \u00a0It entered the top 40 at the end of August and it&#8217;s been in top ten for eight weeks already, which suggests it probably won&#8217;t have enough legs to manage a long a run at the top. \u00a0I can&#8217;t say &#8220;Havana&#8221; does a great deal for me; it&#8217;s serviceable stuff, but nothing that seems especially memorable.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->It&#8217;s her first number one, either as a solo artist or as a member of Fifth Harmony &#8211; their biggest hit was &#8220;Work From Home&#8221;, which got to number 2 last spring. \u00a0Oh, and it&#8217;s also Young Thug&#8217;s first number one, obviously. \u00a0His only other top 40 appearance was in April when he joined Pharrell Williams and Ariana Grande as guests on Calvin Harris&#8217;s &#8220;Heatwave&#8221;, which only managed two weeks on the chart.<\/p>\n<p>Not much going on further down the top 10. \u00a0<strong>&#8220;Silence&#8221; by Marshmello featuring Khalid<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Lonely Together&#8221; by Avicii featuring Rita Ora<\/strong> hold steady at 3 and 4,\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Dusk Till Dawn&#8221; by Zayn featuring Sia<\/strong> rebounds to its original entry point of number 5 (it&#8217;s been hovering between 5 and 9 for eight weeks now)&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. \u00a0Ed Sheeran &#8211; &#8220;Perfect&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2Vv-BfVoq4g\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and this edges up another place to 6, but it&#8217;s got a video now. \u00a0A video that looks almost as if he&#8217;s angling for the Christmas number one, but he can&#8217;t be, can he? \u00a0Not at the start of November?<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Finders Keepers&#8221; by Mabel featuring Kojo Funds<\/strong> is stuck at 8. \u00a0<strong>&#8220;How Long&#8221; by Charlie Puth<\/strong> climbs 17-9, which is his fourth top ten hit. \u00a0He performed it on\u00a0<em>Sounds Like Friday Night<\/em>, which is the BBC&#8217;s attempt to reintroduce music to prime time, but it was climbing pretty quickly already, so I wouldn&#8217;t read too much into that just yet.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. \u00a0Rita Ora &#8211; &#8220;Anywhere&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ksdAs4LBRq8\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Ah. \u00a0This entered at number 20 last week and I forgot to mention it. \u00a0Oops. \u00a0This is (presumably) the second single from her next album, and there&#8217;s something a bit breezily seventies about that chorus, isn&#8217;t there? \u00a0That&#8217;s something different. \u00a0This is growing on me. \u00a0Odd that she&#8217;s competing with the Avicii single on which she also guest stars, but then again&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>16. \u00a0Selena Gomez &amp; Marshmello &#8211; &#8220;Wolves&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nVzA1uWTydQ\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; it hasn&#8217;t stopped Marshmello, who also has a single in the top 5 right now. \u00a0Man of the moment, I guess, though this seems awfully close to Avicii&#8217;s stadium-country schtick, at least in the chorus. \u00a0As for the placeholder video, which is mainly intended for mobile phones&#8230; well, they came up with the cute idea of doing it as a mock Facetime session and then forgot to actually do anything with the premise.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the fourth Selena Gomez hit of the year, the biggest being &#8220;It Ain&#8217;t Me&#8221;, which reached the top 10 in the spring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Cola&#8221; by Camelphat &amp; Elderbrook<\/strong> climbs 23-18, and&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>20. \u00a0Big Shaq &#8211; &#8220;Man&#8217;s Not Hot&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/3M_5oYU-IsU\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This has turned out to be surprisingly enduring for a novelty viral hit &#8211; it&#8217;s moved 30-23-23-23-26-20 &#8211; and it&#8217;s actually got a proper video now.<\/p>\n<p><strong>22. \u00a0Liam Payne &#8211; &#8220;Bedroom Floor&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/E7q_wbbwGyU\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Climbing 28-22. \u00a0It was on the BBC show on Friday, so we&#8217;ll see how much that helps. \u00a0It&#8217;s got a video now too, though it&#8217;s pretty forgettable.<\/p>\n<p><strong>26. \u00a0MK &#8211; &#8220;17&#8221;.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OaFavPu3o0c\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>See, this is what happens when I leave these things to the end of the week &#8211; I end up with two weeks worth of new videos for climbers&#8230; \u00a0 <strong>&#8220;Let You Down&#8221; by NF<\/strong> jumps 40-27.<\/p>\n<p><strong>28. \u00a0Clean Bandit featuring Julia Michaels &#8211; &#8220;I Miss You&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uZs1AHQBz24\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Well, that&#8217;s surprisingly low. \u00a0I mean, this&#8217;ll probably climb &#8211; most major releases do these days &#8211; but Clean Bandit are still in the class of acts who usually jump straight to the top ten with new material. \u00a0And there&#8217;s no obvious reason why this should be different. \u00a0Julia Michaels&#8217; only previous chart appearance was with &#8220;Issues&#8221;, which made number 10 in the spring.<\/p>\n<p><strong>34. \u00a0Michael Jackson &#8211; &#8220;Thriller&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4V90AmXnguw\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Streaming services + Hallowe&#8217;en = number 34. \u00a0&#8220;Thriller&#8221; has turned out to be a hardy perennial, but it only made number 10 on release in 1983. \u00a0It&#8217;s returned to the top 40 twice since then &#8211; it managed a week at number 35 in 2008, and had a more substantial run after Jackson&#8217;s death in 2009 when it got to number 12. \u00a0The (very vaguely) Hallowe&#8217;en themed compilation &#8220;Scream&#8221; re-enters the album chart at 19.<\/p>\n<p><strong>38. \u00a0Taylor Swift &#8211; &#8220;Ready For It&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wIft-t-MQuE\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This made number 7 as a promotion single in September, and dropped out of the top 40 after five weeks. \u00a0It&#8217;s now getting full-scale promotion and the video is out, so it vaults 71-38 to re-enter the charts. \u00a0We&#8217;ll see where it goes from here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>40. \u00a0Stormzy featuring MNEK &#8211; &#8220;Blinded By Your Grace &#8211; Part 2&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5NMcVtnB-2w\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is a track from &#8220;Gang Signs and Prayer&#8221;, which got to number 55 as an album track in the week of review, but it&#8217;s now being promoted as a single. \u00a0It was on the\u00a0<em>X Factor\u00a0<\/em>results show, but that doesn&#8217;t seem to have done it much good. \u00a0Note that\u00a0the\u00a0<em>X Factor<\/em> version features (the Cowell-affiliated) Labrinth instead of MNEK, who has made it known that he was a little surprised not to be asked. \u00a0The parent album jumps 32-13, which is unusual.<\/p>\n<p>On the album chart:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Together Again&#8221; by Michael Ball &amp; Alfie Boe<\/strong> is number 1, while their first album &#8220;Together&#8221; re-enters at 36. \u00a0Here&#8217;s their version of <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/z_B1aUc1F4I\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;He Lives In You&#8221;<\/a> from\u00a0<em>The Lion King<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Scream Above The Sounds&#8221; by The Stereophonics<\/strong> at 2. \u00a0Their first album &#8220;Word Gets Around&#8221; was twenty years ago now, and they&#8217;re still consistently placing studio albums in the top three. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/QWRa1nIyMMA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Before Anyone Knew Our Name&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Nat King Cole &amp; Me&#8221; by Gregory Porter<\/strong> at 3. \u00a0Self-explanatory, really. \u00a0It&#8217;s his third (and highest) top ten album. \u00a0Here&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=B1TJp73shl8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Smile&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Tears on the Dancefloor&#8221; by Steps<\/strong> re-enters at 8. \u00a0It reached number 2 on release in May and I can only assume it&#8217;s knocked down to bargain discount somewhere.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Heartbreak on a Full Moon&#8221; by Chris Brown<\/strong> is 10. \u00a0This was a midweek release &#8211; it came out on Hallowe&#8217;en &#8211; so number 10 is actually pretty high. \u00a0The single &#8220;Questions&#8221; reached number 12 in September.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Meaning of Life&#8221; by Kelly Clarkson<\/strong> is 11, and there&#8217;s a title I suspect it struggles to live up to. \u00a0The single <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Zy6vBxqlapw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Love So Soft&#8221;<\/a> bombed out at 81, partly because it wound up being overshadowed by renewed interest in the\u00a0<em>previous<\/em> album&#8217;s single &#8220;Piece By Piece&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Christmas&#8221; by Michael Buble<\/strong> jumps 30-16, because it&#8217;s November.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Five&#8221; by Hollywood Undead<\/strong> is 31. \u00a0Lord, rap rock. \u00a0These guys have been going for a decade but only their last two albums have (just) made the top 40 albums. \u00a0Single: <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/lJyxWQPHotw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;We Own The Night&#8221;<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Different Cloth&#8221;
