{"id":4026,"date":"2018-02-03T20:08:49","date_gmt":"2018-02-03T20:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=4026"},"modified":"2018-02-03T20:08:49","modified_gmt":"2018-02-03T20:08:49","slug":"charts-2-february-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=4026","title":{"rendered":"Charts &#8211; 2 February 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A quiet singles chart, a static top four. \u00a0Fortunately there&#8217;s more going on with the albums.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Drake &#8211; &#8220;God&#8217;s Plan&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two weeks. \u00a0The B-side &#8220;Diplomatic Immunity&#8221; drops to 36 this week, so it&#8217;s not a case of anything with Drake&#8217;s name selling. \u00a0Then again&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>31. \u00a0Migos featuring Drake &#8211; &#8220;Walk it Talk It&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/1jr1BnpXymcf2i97mTR8tJ\" width=\"300\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This is not a single. It&#8217;s a track from Migos&#8217;s &#8220;Culture II&#8221; album, which is also out this week, and clocks in at a juggernaut 1 hour 45 minutes. \u00a0It enters the album chart at number 4. \u00a0That&#8217;s a big improvement on the first &#8220;Culture&#8221;, which got to 16 last year. \u00a0So there&#8217;s definitely a Migos audience out there. \u00a0But they don&#8217;t buy singles. \u00a0Migos&#8217;s only other hit single under their own power was &#8220;Bad and Boujee&#8221;, which spent six weeks on the chart without getting above 30.<\/p>\n<p>There are two official singles from &#8220;Culture II&#8221;. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=HI-mXMr8glQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Stir Fry&#8221;<\/a> is meant to be the current one, but it&#8217;s down at 51. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9v_rtaye2yY\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Motor Sport&#8221;<\/a> was the lead single, released back in September; it couldn&#8217;t get past 49. \u00a0And it had Nicki Minaj and Cardi B on it. \u00a0But an unpushed album track with Drake&#8230; that can make the singles chart.<\/p>\n<p>And yes, this is the highest new entry of the week. \u00a0It&#8217;s a quiet one for singles.<\/p>\n<p><strong>32. \u00a0Justin Timberlake featuring Chris Stapleton &#8211; &#8220;Say Something&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8MPbR6Cbwi4\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The second single from the upcoming &#8220;Man of the Woods&#8221; album. \u00a0The first one, &#8220;Filthy&#8221;, entered at 15 and swandived gracefully out of the top 40 after three weeks. \u00a0That&#8217;s not great. \u00a0With this one, the supposed country theme of the album &#8211; or it least of its promotion &#8211; is a little more apparent, as Chris Stapleton shows up. \u00a0He&#8217;s never had a hit single in Britain, but his album &#8220;From a Room: Volume 1&#8221; charted last year. \u00a0(Not volume 2, though, which came out at Christmas.)<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Say Something&#8221; is a bit of a patience test. \u00a0The video version is over six minutes long and about the first half of that sounds like an extended intro. \u00a0And then you realise, oh, this is it. \u00a0It picks up slightly by the end &#8211; which is to say, it keeps doing the same thing but with a crescendo &#8211; and I imagine the radio edit will do it a lot of favours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35. \u00a0Mist &#8211; &#8220;Game Changer&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ihYWpi77csY\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Your UK rap track for the week. \u00a0Mist is a rapper from Birmingham, and this is his first appearance. \u00a0The Steel Banglez production on this is great, mind you. \u00a0That 8-bit sound and the piano really work for me.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s the new entries. \u00a0We&#8217;ve got a few more climbers&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;I Know You&#8221; by Craig David featuring Bastille<\/strong> climbs 10-5. \u00a0That&#8217;s his highest position since 2005, when the long-forgotten &#8220;Don&#8217;t Love You No More&#8221; reached number 4. \u00a0The parent album is out this week.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Breathe&#8221; by Jax Jones featuring Ina Wroldsen<\/strong> climbs 9-7.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Strangers&#8221; by Sigrid<\/strong> moves 14-10.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;These Days&#8221; by Rudimental featuring Jess Glynne &amp; Macklemore<\/strong> climbs 33-11, and is clearly going to be around for a while. \u00a0Rudimental and Jess are both at this level regularly, but Macklemore hasn&#8217;t been this high since 2013 (when &#8220;Same Love&#8221; reached 6).<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Feel It Still&#8221; by Portugal. The Man<\/strong> climbs 20-13, as the wider audience bizarrely cottons on to it six months after it entered the chart.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;My Lover&#8221; by Not3s<\/strong> edges 17-16.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Greatest Show&#8221; by Hugh Jackman, Keala Settle, Zac Efron &amp; Zendaya<\/strong> climbs to 21 after three weeks at 23.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Fine Line&#8221; by Mabel featuring Not3s<\/strong> moves 32-22. \u00a0Pleased about that.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Him &amp; I&#8221; by G-Eazy &amp; Halsey<\/strong> moves 27-25.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Sick Boy&#8221; by the Chainsmokers<\/strong> climbs to 38, so at least it doesn&#8217;t suffer the ignominy of getting one week at number 40.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over on the album chart,\u00a0<strong>The <em>Greatest Showman<\/em> soundtrack<\/strong> gets a fourth week at number one. \u00a0<strong>Craig David&#8217;s &#8220;The Time Is Now&#8221;<\/strong> is the highest new entry at number 2 &#8211; not all that surprising, as his comeback album &#8220;Following My Intuition&#8221; was a number 1 in 2016. \u00a0I&#8217;ve covered the single before. \u00a0\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Culture II&#8221; by Migos<\/strong> is 4, which we can skip over for the same reasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. \u00a0Beth Hart &amp; Joe Bonamassa &#8211; &#8220;Black Coffee&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NooMzmbE0xc\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is the third album these two have released as a duo, but their first appearance in the top 20. \u00a0Same goes for Hart&#8217;s solo albums, though Bonamassa&#8217;s been higher than this. \u00a0It&#8217;s a covers album; &#8220;Black Coffee&#8221; itself was originally an Ike &amp; Tina Turner song from 1972.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12. \u00a0Machine Head &#8211; &#8220;Catharsis&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WYeDJxWvA_I\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Surprisingly, their highest chart position ever, just edging out 1999&#8217;s &#8220;The Burning Red&#8221;. \u00a0By now, you know what you&#8217;re getting with Machine Head &#8211; both the music, and the video, which takes itself quite seriously.<\/p>\n<p><strong>18. \u00a0Sheku Kanneh-Mason &#8211; &#8220;Inspiration&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ioRvYLDIhro\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Teenage cellist who won the BBC Young Musician of the Year award in 2016. \u00a0Nothing if not eclectic, the album contains both the above cover of &#8220;No Woman No Cry&#8221;, and the entirety of Shostakovich&#8217;s Cello Concerto No 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>20. \u00a0Django Django &#8211; &#8220;Marble Skies&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wOBFZ5zM_ic\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Art-dance-indie, I guess. \u00a0It&#8217;s their third album. \u00a0I always feel I ought to like Django Django more than I actually do&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>21. \u00a0Nils Frahm &#8211; &#8220;All Melody&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SbnfQl1ny0E\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Making his first appearance on the album chart, nine albums and thirteen years into his career, Nils Frahm hovers somewhere in the hinterland between electronica and modern classical. The only thing on YouTube is the trailer above, so there you go.<\/p>\n<p><strong>23. \u00a0The Marmozets &#8211; &#8220;Knowing What You Know Now&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oCJIUBf01Z0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A belated follow-up to their 2014 debut. The band claimed to have finished this album over a year ago, so heaven only knows what the delay was. One of the tracks was used as a theme for NXT TakeOver: WarGames, for the wrestling fans among you. \u00a0Not this one, though.<\/p>\n<p><strong>29. \u00a0Jeff Wayne &#8211; &#8220;The War of the Worlds&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Time for another reissue of this old workhorse, then.
