{"id":4049,"date":"2018-02-24T19:32:10","date_gmt":"2018-02-24T19:32:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=4049"},"modified":"2018-02-24T19:32:10","modified_gmt":"2018-02-24T19:32:10","slug":"charts-23-february-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=4049","title":{"rendered":"Charts &#8211; 23 February 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s the week of the Brit Awards, and you know what that means&#8230; \u00a0very little, because the promotional efforts are elsewhere, and the Brit Awards themselves only come midway through the week. \u00a0So its only visible impact is over on the album chart, where it gives a boost to a bunch of already-released albums. \u00a0This means a very, very, very quiet chart&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Drake &#8211; &#8220;God&#8217;s Plan&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Five weeks, and it could be here for a while to come. \u00a0Streams are still growing, and lead the market by a mile. \u00a0This seems to answer the theory that &#8220;One Dance&#8221; spent an age at number one because it <em>didn&#8217;t<\/em> have a video, meaning that people who would otherwise have watched it on YouTube (which doesn&#8217;t count towards the chart) went instead to the audio streaming services (which do). \u00a0&#8220;God&#8217;s Plan&#8221; got a video last week, and it only helped. \u00a0Apparently any diversion effect is more than outweighed by the publicity.<\/p>\n<p>Our highest new entry this week is&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>37. \u00a0Zedd, Maren Morris &amp; Grey &#8211; &#8220;The Middle&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/M3mJkSqZbX4\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Zedd and Grey have collaborated before, on Hailee Steinfeld&#8217;s &#8220;Starving&#8221;, which made the top 10 in 2016. \u00a0This is a serviceable follow-up, with a decent hook and not much else to write home about. \u00a0They&#8217;ve gone for an entirely straight performance video, with staging that wouldn&#8217;t look too out of place on the <em>X Factor\u00a0<\/em>results show. \u00a0It&#8217;s unusually direct. \u00a0Maren Morris, making her first appearance on the UK top 40, is a country singer; perhaps she&#8217;s making a move to broaden her audience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>39. \u00a0Hailee Steinfeld &amp; BloodPop\u00ae &#8211; &#8220;Capital Letters&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pj6k-EFxqAI\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a coincidence &#8211; Hailee Steinfeld again. \u00a0She&#8217;s had a couple of minor hits since &#8220;Starving&#8221;, but nothing that&#8217;s got above 30. \u00a0 BloodPop\u00ae &#8211; the \u00ae is silent &#8211; is mainly a remixer and songwriter, but he&#8217;s cropped up with an artist credit once before, when he got equal billing on Justin Bieber&#8217;s &#8220;Friends&#8221; back in September.<\/p>\n<p>The song is from the soundtrack of\u00a0<em>Fifty Shades Freed<\/em>. \u00a0It&#8217;s Ellie Goulding-style stuff; like a lot of\u00a0<em>Fifty Shades\u00a0<\/em>singles, it&#8217;s a lyric about obsessive infatuation which vaguely ticks the movie box without being in any way out of the normal boundaries of pop songs about love, and it has a euphoric chorus to let us all know how lovely said obsessive infatuation is. \u00a0If you were thinking\u00a0<em>Fifty Shades<\/em> might lend itself to something darker, well, the soundtrack compilers don&#8217;t think so.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s climbers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;IDGAF&#8221; by Dua Lipa <\/strong>climbs to 3, after a month stuck at 4.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Feel It Still&#8221; by Portugal.
