2 March 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Still&#8230;?<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Drake &#8211; &#8220;God&#8217;s Plan&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Six weeks and counting. \u00a0It heads up a static top three, with Rudimental&#8217;s &#8220;These Days&#8221; at 2, and Dua Lipa&#8217;s &#8220;IDGAF&#8221; at 3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. \u00a0Post Malone featuring Ty Dolla $ign &#8211; &#8220;Psycho&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MGYJuETPQEg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Post Malone&#8217;s second top ten hit, following last year&#8217;s number one &#8220;Rockstar&#8221;. \u00a0There was another single in the interim, &#8220;I Fall Apart&#8221;, which only got to 19. \u00a0This one is&#8230; well, it&#8217;s pretty typical for 2018, with a mid-paced beat that sounds pleasantly chilled until you realise it&#8217;s going nowhere, unless &#8220;round in circles&#8221; counts. \u00a0It&#8217;s in the well trodden (if not absolutely stripmined) territory of songs about not being able to trust people now that you&#8217;re \u00a0rich and successful. \u00a0For all that, the real problem here is &#8220;only one idea&#8221;; the idea itself is good enough, but it&#8217;s \u00a0not up to simply looping it for the best part of four minutes.<\/p>\n<p>Ty Dolla $ign has never had a UK hit in his own right &#8211; he&#8217;s never even made the top 100 &#8211; but through the power of guest appearances, this is the third time he&#8217;s shown up in the top 5. \u00a0The others were guest verses on Jason Derulo&#8217;s &#8220;Swalla&#8221; last year, and Fifth Harmony&#8217;s &#8220;Work From Home&#8221; in 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>22. \u00a05 Seconds of Summer &#8211; &#8220;Want You Back&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UaAHl_m_ybk\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>5 Seconds of Summer had several top ten hits back in 2014, including the number one &#8220;She Looks So Perfect&#8221;, which seemed to be setting them up to be a Blink 182 for the post-McFly market. \u00a0They haven&#8217;t been in the top ten since, but they&#8217;re still registering hit singles, which isn&#8217;t bad four years on, particularly as fanbase-driven acts have tended to struggle on the chart in the streaming era. \u00a0This is the lead single from their third album, and from the looks of it, the plan is to migrate into Maroon 5&#8217;s territory. \u00a0It&#8217;s&#8230; polished, I guess.<\/p>\n<p><strong>30. \u00a0George Ezra &#8211; &#8220;Paradise&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/XOwihbur34E\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>George Ezra had a very good 2014, when &#8220;Budapest&#8221; hung around the chart for ages and his album &#8220;Wanted On Voyage&#8221; spent four weeks at number one. \u00a0But he still hasn&#8217;t got around to releasing the follow-up album. \u00a0It&#8217;s meant to be coming this year, and &#8220;Paradise&#8221; is \u00a0the second single, the first (&#8220;Don&#8217;t Matter Now&#8221;) having crashed out at 66 last year. \u00a0So at least this gets him back into the chart for the first time in three years. \u00a0The single&#8217;s a decent piece of indie-folk, not unlike what he was making in 2014, but a lot more out of place on the top 40 in 2018. \u00a0Best of a pretty uninspiring bunch this week.<\/p>\n<p><strong>32. \u00a0Sigma &amp; Paloma Faith &#8211; &#8220;Lullaby&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/l7QrxPBMBTY\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Speaking of four years ago, Sigma and Paloma Faith last collaborated on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oAeotgCHL3E\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;Changing&#8221;<\/a>, which reached number 1 in September 2014. \u00a0That was when Sigma were mainly whacking breakbeat tracks on songs, by way of follow-up to their number 1 &#8220;Nobody To Love&#8221; and winding up with records that sounded like an own-brand Rudimental. \u00a0This year, of course, they&#8217;ve moved into the tropical house palette. \u00a0Competent, trend-following stuff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>34. \u00a0Hardy Caprio &#8211; &#8220;Rapper&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TM446WOn7z8\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Making his first appearance on the singles chart, Hardy Caprio is indeed a rapper. \u00a0Musically, this is pretty decent; visually, the video features two women in lingerie having a pillow fight.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s climbers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Friends&#8221; by Marshmello &amp; Anne-Marie<\/strong> moves 9-5. \u00a0That gives them both a second top five hit, following Marshmello&#8217;s &#8220;Friends&#8221; last year, and Anne-Marie&#8217;s vocal on Clean Bandit&#8217;s &#8220;Rockabye&#8221; back at Christmas 2016.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Say Something&#8221; by Justin Timberlake featuring Chris Stapleton<\/strong> climbs 22-10 on the back of a performance at the Brit Awards (which is prime time TV exposure). \u00a0After the lead single &#8220;Filthy&#8221; conked out at 15, they&#8217;ll be pleased to have got a top ten single out of this album.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Fine Line&#8221; by Mabel featuring Not3s<\/strong> moves 16-14.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Look Alive&#8221; by Blocboy JB featuring Drake<\/strong> moves 21-18.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Jumanji&#8221; by B Young<\/strong> climbs 25-19.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Mine&#8221; by Bazzi<\/strong> moves 27-23.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Supermarket Flowers&#8221; by Ed Sheeran<\/strong> re-enters at 29, on the back of another Brit awards performance; it reached number 8 as a track from the \u00f7 album nearly a year ago, and hasn&#8217;t been in the top 40 since April. \u00a0It&#8217;s now officially being promoted as a single.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;The Middle&#8221; by Zedd, Maren Morris &amp; Grey<\/strong> moves 37-31.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the album chart,\u00a0<strong>The\u00a0<em>Greatest Showman<\/em> OST\u00a0<\/strong>spends an eighth week at number one, while just below it, Ed Sheeran&#8217;s \u00f7 celebrates an uninterrupted year in the top ten &#8211; just like the previous two albums managed. \u00a0This is unprecedented; even the Beatles only did it twice. \u00a0Further down, Pete Tong&#8217;s &#8220;Ibiza Classics&#8221; album re-enters at 11 &#8211; I&#8217;m not quite sure what&#8217;s going on there, since it wasn&#8217;t on the Brits show. \u00a0Maybe it&#8217;s being discounted somewhere? \u00a0It&#8217;s a light week for new releases, but we do have&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>20. \u00a06ix9nine &#8211; &#8220;Day 69&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Debut mixtape by this week&#8217;s rapper from the internet. \u00a0It&#8217;s pronounced &#8220;six nine&#8221;, if you weren&#8217;t sure. \u00a0He&#8217;s godawful &#8211; he&#8217;s a completely one-dimensional rapper who shouts a lot, waves guns around, you know the deal. \u00a0Your basic controversy baiting. \u00a0There are music videos that I could link to, but, uh, no. \u00a0And that&#8217;s before you get to his 2015 conviction, but I&#8217;ll leave you to read up on that in your own time if you really want.<\/p>\n<p><strong>32. \u00a0Vance Joy &#8211; &#8220;Nation of Two&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dQjTQFRZsD4\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>You might remember his one and only hit single &#8220;Riptide&#8221;, which made number 10 in 2014. \u00a0This is the very belated follow-up to that year&#8217;s album.<\/p>\n<p><strong>39. \u00a0Ocean Wisdom &#8211; &#8220;Wizville&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/35tfgf5-M6k\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is the second album by London rapper Ocean Wisdom, but it&#8217;s the first one to make the top 40. \u00a0A lot more interesting than most of the UK rap we get on the album chart, which is becoming a bit samey. \u00a0This isn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Still&#8230;? 1. \u00a0Drake &#8211;
