15 June 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it&#8217;s movement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Jess Glynne &#8211; &#8220;I&#8217;ll Be There&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iQp1_GfDhwQ\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Number one with an asterisk. \u00a0For the second time this year, a long-running number one single stays at the top long enough to get whacked by the &#8220;accelerated chart ratio&#8221; rule that downweights the streams of tracks that have been out for ten weeks, and which are three weeks past their peak. \u00a0So the hammer falls on Calvin Harris &amp; Dua Lipa&#8217;s &#8220;One Kiss&#8221;, which swandives from 1 to 7. \u00a0It <em>would\u00a0<\/em>otherwise have managed another week at number one, and since all this is a lot more visible than it was meant to be &#8211; the rule was meant to target older tracks that needed a helping kick on their way out of the top 40 &#8211; you suspect they&#8217;ll tweak the rule soon, so as to fade it in a little bit more gently.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The beneficiary is Jess Glynne, with a track that entered at number 15 five weeks ago and still sounds a bit yodelly to me. \u00a0This is her seventh number one, even if most of them were as a guest star; the others are Clean Bandit&#8217;s &#8220;Rather Be&#8221; (2014), Route 94&#8217;s &#8220;My Love&#8221; (2014), &#8220;Hold My Hand&#8221; (2015), Tinie Tempah&#8217;s &#8220;Not Letting Go&#8221; (2015), &#8220;Don&#8217;t Be So Hard On Yourself&#8221; (2015), and Rudimental&#8217;s &#8220;These Days&#8221; (2018).<\/p>\n<p>There are no new entries at all in the top 30, but we have a bit more going on below that mark.<\/p>\n<p><strong>31. \u00a0Jonas Blue featuring Jack &amp; Jack &#8211;<\/strong> <strong>&#8220;Rise&#8221;\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/btrzs54s1Rc\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Jonas Blue&#8217;s first hit of the year. \u00a0Making their chart debut, Jack &amp; Jack are a Nebraskan duo whose previous main claim to fame was releasing an album called &#8220;Calibraska&#8221; that did moderately well in the US three years ago. \u00a0This is above-average 2018 electro pop with a synth-flute hook to help it stand out from the pack, more euphoric than usual for Jonas Blue, and I can see it going further.<\/p>\n<p><strong>38. \u00a0Jorja Smith &#8211; &#8220;Blue Lights&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/R8YwnQMQuJI\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Her second minor hit of the year, after &#8220;Let Me Down&#8221; reached number 34 in January. \u00a0Her debut album\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Lost &amp; Found&#8221;<\/strong> enters at 3. \u00a0This is a really good, compelling song, and well worth taking a few minutes to watch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>39. \u00a0Juice WRLD &#8211; &#8220;Lucid Dreams&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mzB1VGEGcSU\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s a teenage rapper from Illinois, and this was his breakthrough hit in America, where it made the top 10. \u00a0It&#8217;s a lot more interesting than that might lead you to expect, and the lo-fi video is great.<\/p>\n<p>With no new entries in the top 30, we get plenty of climbers instead.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Solo&#8221; by Clean Bandit featuring Demi Lovato<\/strong> moves 6-2. \u00a0 Clean Bandit haven&#8217;t missed the top five since 2014. \u00a0It&#8217;s now Demi Lovato&#8217;s biggest UK hit, beating the number 3 peak of &#8220;Heart Attack&#8221; in 2013.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Shotgun&#8221; by George Era<\/strong> moves 8-4. \u00a0That&#8217;s his third top 5 hit, following &#8220;Budapest&#8221; back in 2013, and &#8220;Paradise&#8221; this year (which is still hanging around at 11). \u00a0It now has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=aAiVsqfbn5g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">an official video<\/a>, to go with the lyric video that was practically a full video anyway. \u00a0Admittedly, they&#8217;ve clearly chucked a lot more money at this one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Better Now&#8221; by Post Malone<\/strong> moves 7-6.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Leave a Light On&#8221; by Tom Walker<\/strong> moves 16-8. \u00a0It&#8217;s the sales chart number one, but sales only take you so far in 2018.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;I Like It&#8221; by Cardi B featuring Bad Bunny &amp; J Balvin<\/strong> moves 13-9. \u00a0It&#8217;s her first top ten hit as a lead artist, though she was on Bruno Mars&#8217;s &#8220;Finesse&#8221; earlier this year. \u00a0J Balvin gets his second top ten hit, following last year&#8217;s &#8220;Mi Gente&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;If You&#8217;re Over Me&#8221; by Years &amp; Years<\/strong> moves 19-12.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Back To You&#8221; by Selena Gomez<\/strong> moves 23-13. \u00a0This has a video now. \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=VY1eFxgRR-k\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Look, it says so at the start.<\/a><\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Familiar&#8221; by Liam Payne &amp; J Balvin<\/strong> moves 18-14.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Girls Like You&#8221; by Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B<\/strong> moves 28-16.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Butterflies&#8221; by AJ Tracey &amp; Not3s<\/strong> moves 24-19.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Praise The Lord (Da Shine)&#8221; by A$AP Rocky featuring Skepta<\/strong> climbs 39-21, which I didn&#8217;t see coming, even though it&#8217;s good.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Youngblood&#8221; by 5 Seconds of Summer<\/strong> climbs 37-22. \u00a0And I definitely didn&#8217;t see\u00a0<em>that<\/em> coming. \u00a0It matches their previous single &#8220;Want You Back&#8221;, but the difference is that that single\u00a0<em>entered<\/em> at 22 and plunged straight out, which is what you expect from fanbase acts. \u00a0This one is climbing, which presumably means someone&#8217;s listening to it beyond their core.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;First Time&#8221; by M-22 featuring Medina<\/strong> climbs 31-24.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Man Down&#8221; by Shakka featuring AlunaGeorge<\/strong> climbs 30-25.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Oh My&#8221; by Dappy featuring Ay Em<\/strong> climbs 36-34. \u00a0This is not giving up.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Family Tree&#8221; by Ramz<\/strong> climbs 40-35.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the album chart, you guessed it,\u00a0<strong>The\u00a0<em>Greatest Showman\u00a0<\/em>soundtrack<\/strong> is still number 1. \u00a0And we&#8217;ve already mentioned Jorja Smith at 3.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. \u00a0The Beach Boys &amp; The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra &#8211; &#8220;The Beach Boys With The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PWXuADDVCCo\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Indulge in the Beach Boys&#8217; original vocal performances with new symphonic arrangements, newly recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road Studios in London.&#8221; \u00a0Right you are. \u00a0It&#8217;s their 15th top ten album, and their highest position since &#8220;Summer Dreams&#8221; back in 1990. \u00a0The video above is a trailer for the whole album, including this open-to-interpretation observation by Bruce Johnston: &#8220;I think it&#8217;s very difficult to add the orchestra, because you have to be so sensitive to all the nuances that Brian put in there musically the first time around. \u00a0It&#8217;s difficult to do. \u00a0But they did it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. \u00a0 Kids See Ghosts &#8211; &#8220;Kids See Ghosts&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/3aUFrxO1B8EW63QchEl3wX\" width=\"300\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s the Kanye West \/ Kid Cudi album. \u00a0The track above lands at 47 on the singles chart, with &#8220;Reborn&#8221; one place below it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8. \u00a0Lily Allen &#8211; &#8220;No Shame&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/T1o0k8bQcMg\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Her fourth album, and the first to miss the top 2. \u00a0None of the singles from this album made the top 100, which is what you call &#8220;post-imperial&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. \u00a0Eleanor Tomlinson &#8211; &#8220;Tales From Home&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dra7Mu8_eq0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Eleanor Tomlinson plays Demelza in <em>Poldark\u00a0<\/em>and she&#8217;s releasing an\u00a0album of folk covers on Sony Classical. \u00a0You pretty much know what to expect from that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>18. \u00a0Steps &#8211; &#8220;Party on the Dancefloor &#8211; Live From The London SSE Arena Wembley&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/cOM0cfVmfhQ\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As advertised, it&#8217;s a Steps live album. \u00a0For those who&#8217;ve always wanted to hear their freeform improvisational spirit unchained, in tracks such as a seven-and-a-half-minute take on &#8220;Tragedy&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>(Which, as a visual spectacle, is actually quite fun. \u00a0But to\u00a0<em>listen<\/em> to&#8230;?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>19. \u00a0Tremonti &#8211; &#8220;A Dying Machine&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/BYwrSAZzXEc\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Fourth solo-ish album from Mark Tremonti; he was the lead guitarist in Creed and Alter Bridge, if the name doesn&#8217;t ring a bell. \u00a0The previous two albums both landed in similar territory. \u00a0The track above isn&#8217;t bad, in a Foo Fighters-y kind of way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>23. \u00a0Gruff Rhys &#8211; &#8220;Babelsberg&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7Y6VLjIKwqQ\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>His second solo album to chart; the previous one got to number 24, so baby steps. \u00a0The 70s MOR-country track above is apparently fairly typical of the album.<\/p>\n<p><strong>28. \u00a0Mansun &#8211; &#8220;Attack of the Grey Lantern&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fl49P8Qxqlc\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Remastered 21st anniversary edition of their 1997 number 1 debut album. \u00a0I&#8217;m not quite sure why, because 21 isn&#8217;t a round number, and besides, the original release was in February. \u00a0It&#8217;s not even as if the band are doing a reunion tour. \u00a0If you&#8217;ve not seen it before, &#8220;Taxloss&#8221; is an early example of the &#8220;we literally threw the budget away&#8221; video, which has been done worse many a time since.<\/p>\n<p><strong>40. \u00a0Tony Hadley &#8211; &#8220;Talking to the Moon&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LKROJl3Odrs\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Formerly of Spandau Ballet. \u00a0It&#8217;s his first studio solo album to make the album chart &#8211;
