getting hit by the downweighting rule for older hits. As it happens, even without that rule coming into play, “One Kiss” would have fallen off the top this week. But Jess Glynne doesn’t hang on to purge that footnote from their record; instead, Clean Bandit get their fourth number one, following “Rather Be” (2014 – yes, it was that long ago), “Rockabye” (2016) and “Symphony” (2017). There’s also now an acoustic version of the video available, if you’re looking for confirmation of what the first line of the chorus says underneath the vocal effects.

This is Demi Lovato’s first UK number one; her previous best was “Heart Attack”, which reached number 3 in 2013.

20. Nicki Minaj featuring Ariana Grande – “Bed”

So this’ll be the radio-friendly single from the album, then. But it does outperform both “Chun-Li” (number 26) and “Barbie Tingz” (number 31) – in fact, she hasn’t been in the top 20 as a lead artist since “Anaconda” back in 2014, though admittedly her output was pretty limited for much of that time.

31. XXXTentacion – “Sad”
32. XXXTentacion – “Moonlight”
33. XXXTentacion – “Changes”

XXXTentacion was shot dead on Monday, leading to a surge in streaming for his two albums. His disturbing track record of violence – at the time of his death, he was awaiting trial on charges of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, and witness tampering – seemed to have little impact on his career, with audiences apparently quite happy to look past it all.

The albums “Question Mark” and “17” re-enter the album chart at 9 and 13 respectively. “Sad” was his biggest hit single, reaching number 19 in April; “Moonlight” reached number 31 at around the same time; and “Changes” is new to the top 40. It’s apparently a coincidence that they land so close together; “Sad” is subject to the downweighting rule, as is “Jocelyn Flores”, which would presumably otherwise have been the third track here.

35. Tiesto & Dzeko featuring Preme & Post Malone – “Jackie Chan”

This is Tiesto’s biggest hit since “Wasted” by George Ezra climbs 4-2. That matches previous single “Paradise” as his joint biggest hit.

“Leave a Light On” by Tom Walker climbs 8-7.

“If You’re Over Me” by Years & Years climbs 12-8. It’s their fourth top ten hit, the last one coming in 2015.

“Girls Like You” by Maroon 5 featuring Cardi B climbs 16-11.

“Youngblood” by 5 Seconds of Summer climbs 22-13, which really is unexpected; these guys haven’t had a hit outside of their fanbase in years – arguably ever, given the staying power of even their biggest hits. This is their biggest hit since “Amnesia” reached the top 10 in 2014 (it plunged straight to 23 the following week). The parent album, of the same name, enters the album chart at 3 – in itself, pretty standard for 5 Seconds of Summer, whose previous albums landed at 1 and 2.

“Rise” by Jonas Blue featuring Jack & Jack climbs 31-17.

“Praise The Lord (Da Shine)” by A$AP Rocky featuring Skepta climbs 21-18.

“Lucid Dreams” by Juice WRLD climbs 39-23, which is a nice surprise.

On the album chart, The Greatest Showman soundtrack spends a twentieth interminable week at number one, which matches the total for Ed Sheeran’s ÷. The all-time record for the most weeks at number one is unlikely to be broken; it’s 115, held by the South Pacific soundtrack.

As already mentioned, 5 Seconds of Summer are at 3.

5. The Carters – “Everything is Love”

That’s Beyonce and Jay-Z, of course. You’d think they’d be higher, but the lead single “Apeshit” is at a surprisingly lowly 43. Still, not many acts can afford to have the actual Mona Lisa in their video.

7. Johnny Marr – “Call the Comet”

<span data-mce-type="bookmark" style="display: inline-block; wasn’t even in the top 100. We’ve all seen “You Can Call Me All”, so let’s go with this number 15 single from 1972 – the video was made in 1988 to promote a different greatest hits compilation.

20. Mike Shinoda –
