27 July 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Look, we need dull weeks so that the slightly less dull weeks can seem interesting in comparison.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Drake &#8211; &#8220;In My Feelings&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Two weeks, still no video. \u00a0The album &#8220;Scorpion&#8221; drops to 3 this week as it yields to a far, far greater force, but more of that later. \u00a0As for the other two Drake singles, &#8220;Don&#8217;t Matter To Me&#8221; drops to 7, and &#8220;Nonstop&#8221; falls to 22. \u00a0There could well be others that would qualify for the top 40 if it wasn&#8217;t for the three-song cap.<\/p>\n<p><strong>26. \u00a0Loud Luxury featuring Brando &#8211; &#8220;Body&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D_rqZm231HY\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Yes, all the way down to 26 for the highest new entry. \u00a0Loud Luxury are a Toronto production duo, and this is their first hit; Brando is the singer. \u00a0It&#8217;s a bit of a dance throwback, complete with cut up vocals and one-night-stand vignette video.<\/p>\n<p><strong>33. \u00a0The 1975 &#8211; &#8220;Love It If We Made It&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/j5l6ZoVY2zQ\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The second single from the upcoming album &#8220;A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships&#8221; (really). \u00a0The first one was &#8220;Give Yourself A Try&#8221;, which reached number 22 last month &#8211; two singles placing in the top 40 from an album is pretty good for a tenured indie band in 2018. \u00a0As for the song, it&#8217;s a bit of a grind, to be honest &#8211; the verses are very much sixth form poetry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>35. \u00a06ix9ine featuring Nicki Minaj &amp; Murda Beatz &#8211; &#8220;Fefe&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/V_MXGdSBbAI\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is 6ix9ine&#8217;s first appearance in the top 40, but you have to figure that Nicki Minaj is doing a lot of the heavy lifting in that department &#8211; and she is on about half the record, so it&#8217;s not a token cameo to get her name on the thing. \u00a0It&#8217;s a fairly forgettable record, but considering that 6ix9ine is prone to one-note shouting, this is actually something of a change of pace for him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>36. \u00a0Panic at the Disco &#8211; &#8220;High Hopes&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UKserM-i0_A\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This has been out for a few weeks now, and the parent album reached number 2 at the start of the month, but it now scrapes the bottom end of the top 40. \u00a0It&#8217;s their first appearance in the top 40 singles since &#8220;Nine in the Afternoon&#8221; reached number 13 a decade ago. \u00a0In a pretty thin week, I quite enjoyed this.<\/p>\n<p><strong>39. \u00a0B Young &#8211; &#8220;079Me&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oQu5hOkzJDs\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The follow up to &#8220;Jumanji&#8221;, which reached 13 earlier in the year. \u00a0Entirely amiable without actually going anywhere.<\/p>\n<p><strong>40. \u00a0Benny Blanco featuring Halsey &amp; Khalid &#8211; &#8220;Eastside&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/56WBK4ZK_cw\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Blanco has been around as a songwriter for years, but this is his first release credited under his own name. \u00a0The song is decent, but the video is surprisingly good in an understated kind of way. \u00a0Worth a look if you&#8217;re picking one thing from this post.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s climbers &#8211; and there are a ton of them:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Rise&#8221; by Jonas Blue featuring Jack &amp; Jack<\/strong> climbs 6-3. \u00a0It&#8217;s now his biggest hit since he had a brace of number 2s in 2016.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Youngblood&#8221; by 5 Seconds of Summer<\/strong> climbs 8-4. \u00a0This really has escaped their usual ghetto to become a genuine crossover hit. \u00a0They haven&#8217;t been this high since &#8220;Don&#8217;t Stop&#8221; managed a week at number 2 in 2014 (it crashed straight out of the top 10 the following week). \u00a0In terms of sustained popularity rather than highest chart position, this is probably already their biggest hit.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Jackie Chan&#8221; by Tiesto &amp; Dzeko featuring Preme &amp; Post Malone<\/strong> climbs 9-5.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;If You&#8217;re Over Me&#8221; by Years &amp; Years<\/strong> climbs 10-6.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;I Like It&#8221; by Cardi B featuring Bad Bunny &amp; J Balvin\u00a0<\/strong>climbs 11-8. \u00a0Her first top ten hit with lead billing.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Lucid Dreams&#8221; by Juice WRLD<\/strong> climbs 17-12. \u00a0This has been on the top 40 for seven weeks now.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Taste&#8221; by Tyga featuring Offset<\/strong> climbs 16-15.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Only You&#8221; by Cheat Codes &amp; Little Mix<\/strong> climbs 19-16.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Ring Ring&#8221; by Jax Jones featuring Mabel &amp; Rich the Kid<\/strong> climbs 23-17.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;First Time&#8221; by M-22 featuring Medina<\/strong> climbs 26-20.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Oh My&#8221; by Dappy featuring Ay Em<\/strong> climbs 25-23. \u00a0This has now moved 39-36-34-34-31-26-26-25-23.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Nevermind&#8221; by Dennis Lloyd<\/strong> climbs 29-24.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Ocean&#8221; by Martin Garrix featuring Khalid<\/strong> climbs 34-29.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Fine Girl&#8221; by Ziezie<\/strong> climbs 39-31.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Panic Room&#8221; by Au\/Ra &amp; Camelphat<\/strong> climbs 40-38.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>On the album chart, there really is not much going on. \u00a0<strong>The\u00a0<em>Mamma Mia &#8211; Here We Go Again<\/em> soundtrack<\/strong> climbs to number 1, and something tells me it might be there a while &#8211; then again, the\u00a0<em>Greatest Showman<\/em> soundtrack rebounds to 2. \u00a0More surprising is that the\u00a0<em>original<\/em>\u00a0<em>Mamma Mia<\/em> soundtrack climbs to number 5 (an all-time record for it, because it was banished to the compilation chart on first release). \u00a0Oh, and Abba&#8217;s perennial greatest hits compilation &#8220;Gold&#8221; is at number 7 this week.<\/p>\n<p>The Official Chart Company are cheerfully pointing out that this is the first time since 1969 that there have been three movie soundtrack albums in the top 5, but it&#8217;s a largely meaningless stat, because until recently movie soundtrack albums were treated as compilations and excluded from the artist album chart. \u00a0It&#8217;s only recently that the chart has started treating &#8220;movie cast&#8221; as a pseudo-artist, allowing musical soundtracks to chart again.<\/p>\n<p>There are just two new entries on the album chart:<\/p>\n<p><strong>14. \u00a0D-Block Europe &amp; Yxng Bane &#8211; &#8220;Any Minute Now&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QzbPJGpKP3c\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a collaboration mixtape. \u00a0Yxng Bane will be a familiar name if you&#8217;re reading these posts regularly. \u00a0D-Block Europe are a collective from South London. \u00a0I rather admire anyone who&#8217;s still making videos in their front room in 2018 (though the editor is certainly earning his money with some of this footage).<\/p>\n<p><strong>39. \u00a0The Internet &#8211;
