{"id":4351,"date":"2018-10-19T22:25:53","date_gmt":"2018-10-19T21:25:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=4351"},"modified":"2018-10-19T22:26:39","modified_gmt":"2018-10-19T21:26:39","slug":"charts-19-october-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=4351","title":{"rendered":"Charts &#8211; 19 October 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Boy, there&#8217;s not much of interest going on here&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. \u00a0Calvin Harris &amp; Sam Smith &#8211; &#8220;Promises&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Oh, this again? \u00a0&#8220;Promises&#8221; returns to number one for a sixth week after what turns out to have been a brief interruption by Dave&#8217;s &#8220;Funky Friday&#8221;. \u00a0That track slips to 2. \u00a0It&#8217;s fairly \u00a0close &#8211; the equivalent of 1,026 sales.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. \u00a0Little Mix featuring Nicki Minaj &#8211; &#8220;Woman Like Me&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/VLQEABnJVLA\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->This is the lead single from the fifth Little Mix album, due out next month. \u00a0It&#8217;s a song originally written by Jess Glynne and Ed Sheeran for her album (of which more later), and which didn&#8217;t make the cut. \u00a0The production saves it, since the song itself seems desperately familiar to me.<\/p>\n<p><strong>11. \u00a0Kodak Black featuring Travis Scott &amp; Offset &#8211; &#8220;Zeze&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mjaayCARwro\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Kodak Black&#8217;s first top 40 hit, though he was being referenced in Cardi B&#8217;s &#8220;Bodak Yellow&#8221; last year. \u00a0It&#8217;s not a nonsense title; a zeze is a musical instrument, and there&#8217;s one on the track. \u00a0It might also be some sort of swipe at 6ix9ine, who&#8217;s released tracks called &#8220;Keke&#8221;, &#8220;Bebe&#8221; and &#8220;Fefe&#8221;. \u00a0This is a bit of a rush release, apparently recorded after Kodak Black was released from prison in August.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13. \u00a0Bad Bunny featuring Drake &#8211; &#8220;Mia&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OSUxrSe5GbI\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>If you count guest appearances, this is Drake&#8217;s twelfth appearance on the top 40 this year, and it&#8217;s still only mid October. \u00a0This week he gives the rub to Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican rapper who also appeared on Cardi B&#8217;s &#8220;I Like It&#8221; earlier this year &#8211; that made the top 10. \u00a0The track is entirely in Spanish; in a literal translation, it reads like possessive boyfriend stuff. \u00a0(&#8220;Tell them you&#8217;re mine&#8221; etc.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>24. \u00a0Jess Glynne &#8211; &#8220;Thursday&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/D-F9h6lu7fQ\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>From her second album &#8220;Always In Between&#8221;, which enters the album chart at number 1 this week. It&#8217;s the track you stick on YouTube to show there&#8217;s some range to the album, I guess. \u00a0Both Jess Glynne&#8217;s albums have gone to number one, and she&#8217;s had eleven top ten hits in four years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>40. \u00a0Cadet &amp; Deno Driz &#8211; &#8220;Advice&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GCU5ljQaIN4\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s UK rap debut. \u00a0It&#8217;s an Instagram freestyle worked up into a proper track. \u00a0I like the way their voices work together.<\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s climbers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Shallow&#8221; by Lady Gaga &amp; Bradley Cooper<\/strong> climbs 6-4. \u00a0That overtakes &#8220;Applause&#8221; (which reached number 5), so it&#8217;s now Lady Gaga&#8217;s highest chart place since &#8220;Born This Way&#8221; back in 2011. \u00a0The other two soundtrack album singles also climb, with &#8220;Always Remember Us This Way&#8221; going 39-31, and &#8220;I&#8217;ll Never Love Again&#8221; from 35-34.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Just Got Paid&#8221; by Sigala x Ella Eyre x Meghan Trainor featuring French Montana<\/strong> climbs 15-14.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Back &amp; Forth&#8221; by MK x Jonas Blue x Becky Hill<\/strong> climbs 21-17.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;No Stylist&#8221; by French Montana featuring Drake<\/strong> climbs 29-19.<\/li>\n<li><strong>&#8220;Taki Taki&#8221; by DJ Snake featuring Selena Gomez, Cardi B &amp; Ozuna<\/strong> climbs 33-21.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Over on the album chart,\u00a0<strong>Jess Glynne<\/strong> is number one (as already mentioned), and it&#8217;s a quiet week at the top end of the chart&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>7. \u00a0Rick Wakeman &#8211; &#8220;Piano Odyssey&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UW1BcAgg1cQ\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>His second album of piano covers, this time with songs by the likes of Queen and the Beatles. \u00a0There are no proper videos for this on YouTube, although there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qXFM318J4kk&amp;frags=pl%2Cwn\">a brief clip of an interview<\/a> where Simon Mayo asks him about song length.<\/p>\n<p><strong>13. \u00a0Elvis Costello &amp; The Imposters &#8211; &#8220;Look Now&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/v_E9GbErv_g\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>An album of songs from abandoned stage projects. \u00a0It&#8217;s been five years since Costello&#8217;s last studio album, and ten since the last one with the Imposters. \u00a0Number 14 is very high for an Elvis Costello album these days &#8211; he hasn&#8217;t been this high since 1994&#8217;s &#8220;Brutal Youth&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>16. \u00a0Quavo &#8211; &#8220;Quavo Huncho&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/HvpYtER85f8\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>His debut solo album, though of course he&#8217;s a member of Migos, and they&#8217;ve had a couple of top twenty albums. \u00a0The reviews for this seem to be pretty middling.<\/p>\n<p><strong>17. \u00a0John Grant &#8211; &#8220;Love is Magic&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/-qtTidRF2V0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>US indie songwriter &#8211; his 2015 album made the top ten, but it looks like that was an anomaly. \u00a0The video for the title track features &#8220;a beautiful snapshot of unconditional love&#8221;, i.e. dog training.<\/p>\n<p><strong>18. \u00a0Ella Mai &#8211; &#8220;Ella Mai&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/W16bk86xIY0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s signed to DJ Mustard&#8217;s label, and two pre-album singles both just missed the top 40, which must be frustrating.<\/p>\n<p><strong>19. \u00a0David Bowie &#8211; &#8220;Loving the Alien (1983-1988)&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ns2hmyP0mGY\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an 11 CD (!) box set for the completists.
