{"id":4577,"date":"2019-05-12T22:06:06","date_gmt":"2019-05-12T21:06:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=4577"},"modified":"2019-05-12T22:06:06","modified_gmt":"2019-05-12T21:06:06","slug":"charts-10-may-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=4577","title":{"rendered":"Charts &#8211; 10 May 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have a new podcast episode, just one post down! \u00a0Or if you prefer, there&#8217;s this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=9ClYy0MxsU0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>1. \u00a0Stormzy &#8211; &#8220;Vossi Bop&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two weeks, with over 10 million streams once again. \u00a0<strong>&#8220;Old Town Road&#8221; by Lil Nas X<\/strong> is still hanging in at 2 with very respectable numbers; it&#8217;s not beyond the bounds of possibility that it might retake number one.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. \u00a0Lewis Capaldi &#8211; &#8220;Hold Me While You Wait&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/track\/6700Z4Izi8EbB6JNthU6Ma\" width=\"300\" height=\"380\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->So Lewis Capaldi is having a good year. \u00a0His breakthrough single &#8220;Someone You Loved&#8221;, which entered the top 40 back in January and spent seven weeks at number one, is still hanging around at 3. \u00a0His first top 40 hit &#8220;Grace&#8221;, which has been hanging around for roughly the same amount of time without ever getting past number 21, is sitting at 25. \u00a0Apparently his\u00a0<em>previous<\/em> single would finally have made the top 40 this week too, but for the three-song cap.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hold Me While You Wait&#8221; is another ballad which plays to the strengths of Capaldi&#8217;s voice. \u00a0Curiously, it&#8217;s been released with &#8220;Someone You Loved&#8221; as a B-side, which seems redundant except as a means of steering streams to the other single.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9. \u00a0Shawn Mendes &#8211; &#8220;If I Can&#8217;t Have You&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oTJ-oqwxdZY\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The lead single from his next album debuts as his sixth top ten hit. \u00a0It&#8217;s surprisingly good, in a slightly over-polished sort of way &#8211; I don&#8217;t exactly buy the sentiment, but it sure is catchy.<\/p>\n<p><strong>15. \u00a0Logic featuring Eminem &#8211; &#8220;Homicide&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mfqsEpjEtrw\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is only Logic&#8217;s second hit as a lead artist, the other being &#8220;1-800-273-8255&#8221;, which reached the top ten a couple of years ago. \u00a0Obviously, collaborating with the bigger name is going to help, but it&#8217;s not as if Eminem guest appearances are a commercial sure thing. \u00a0Still, this is in similar territory to Eminem&#8217;s last two singles, &#8220;Killshot&#8221; (13) and &#8220;Venom&#8221; (16). \u00a0If you&#8217;ve heard much of Eminem&#8217;s recent output, you won&#8217;t be in the least surprised to hear that this is a record of two men rapping quickly and bemoaning the fact that the kids don&#8217;t do that any more. \u00a0The bit tagged on to the end of the video, after the song proper, comes from an Instagram post last year; it&#8217;s comedian Chris D&#8217;Elia parodying Eminem&#8217;s lyrics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>18. \u00a0Hardy Caprio &amp; Digdat &#8211; &#8220;Guten Tag&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UOtC-JLFyjA\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>UK rap time. \u00a0This is Hardy Caprio&#8217;s third and biggest hit, Digdat&#8217;s first. \u00a0You know the routine by now; the German bit is because they like German cars. \u00a0Doesn&#8217;t particularly stand out to me.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing much happening in the 20s, and\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Sixteen&#8221; by Ellie Goulding<\/strong> climbs 36-31.<\/p>\n<p><strong>34. \u00a0Bugzy Malone &#8211; &#8220;M.E.N. II&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/idp20v_PTYo\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s a rapper from Manchester whose previous appearances have been on the album chart (where he&#8217;s placed four albums in the top ten). \u00a0&#8220;M.E.N. II&#8221; is a sequel to his 2015 song &#8220;M.E.N.&#8221; which was apparently some sort of response to an article about him in the\u00a0<em>Manchester Evening News<\/em>. \u00a0This one is more in the familiar &#8220;looking back on how far I&#8217;ve come&#8221; vein.<\/p>\n<p>Over on the album chart,\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Hurts 2B Human&#8221; by Pink<\/strong> gets a second week at number one, which I didn&#8217;t expect.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. \u00a0Vampire Weekend &#8211; &#8220;Father of the Bride&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/IlkTVMMkCP4\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Vampire Weekend&#8217;s fourth album is their highest placing &#8211; marginally, since the previous two both reached number 3. \u00a0The single&#8217;s good, though the piano part can&#8217;t help reminding me of Happy Mondays.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. \u00a0Frank Carter &amp; The Rattlesnakes &#8211; &#8220;End of Suffering&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dF16_JRFC08\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Their third album, and again, their highest placing by a small margin (the previous one got to 7). \u00a0Carter was previously the frontman for Gallows and Pure Love.<\/p>\n<p><strong>14. \u00a0The Wildhearts &#8211; &#8220;Renaissance Men&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/xhoa0E87h34\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This week&#8217;s entry in the &#8220;are they still going&#8221; file is the first Wildhearts album in 10 years; they split after the last album, but they&#8217;ve been touring sporadically in reunion tours for quite a while now. \u00a0The Wildhearts&#8217; commercial peak was in the mid nineties, when they had a top ten album, and made <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Vr6IicMnQNo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of the most gloriously boring music videos ever<\/a>. \u00a0The single above is a surprisingly aggressive (and interesting) record for a band of their age.<\/p>\n<p><strong>12. \u00a0Lucy Spraggan &#8211; &#8220;Today was a Good Day&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6-Y0hZ6hDlo\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Starting off as the token quirky songwriter one in the 2012 series of\u00a0<em>X Factor<\/em>, Lucy Spraggan dropped out of the show through illness, but has turned out to be one of\u00a0the show&#8217;s more enduring alumni; this is her fifth album, all of which have placed at 22 or higher.<\/p>\n<p><strong>25. \u00a0Amon Amarth &#8211; &#8220;Berserker&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/H24S0nym-pE\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This is Amon Amarth&#8217;s 11th studio album, but only the second to chart; it beats the number 25 peak of 2016&#8217;s &#8220;Jomsviking&#8221;. \u00a0With album titles like that, and a band name which is taken from Tolkein (it&#8217;s the Sindarin name for Mount Doom), you may not be shocked to learn that they&#8217;re a melodic death metal band. \u00a0Tracks on this album include &#8220;Fafner&#8217;s Gold&#8221;, &#8220;Mj\u00f6lner, Hammer of Thor&#8221;, &#8220;Valkyria&#8221; and &#8211; hold on, let me double check this &#8211; yes, &#8220;The Berserker at Stamford Bridge&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>31. \u00a0Ten Tonnes &#8211; &#8220;Ten Tonnes&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/NbUTVENlDA0\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The debut album by George Ezra&#8217;s young brother. \u00a0You can see the family resemblance, in more ways than one, but it is distinct from big brother&#8217;s music &#8211; though it&#8217;s nothing groundbreaking.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have a new podcast episode, just one post down!
