For the moment, it doesn’t look that different from normal… but this could go on for a while. Interestingly, the preliminary data shows more of an increase in radio audiences. In America, streaming actually seems to be down significantly.

1. Saint JHN – “Roses”

Two weeks at number 1. The rest of the top 10 is becalmed. “Lonely” by Joel Corry climbs one place to 4; “Physical” by Dua Lipa climbs 7-5; “Say So” by Doja Cat climbs 8-7. A little further down, “Boyfriend” by Mabel climbs 17-11.

17. The Weeknd – “In Your Eyes”
23. The Weeknd – “After Hours”

Together with “Blinding Lights” (still at 2), these are the three tracks to chart from the Weeknd’s new album “After Hours”. It enters the album chart at number 1 in a refreshing show of normalcy. It’s only his second UK number 1 album, the other one being 2015’s “Beauty Behind the Madness” – two albums since then also made the top 5.

“In Your Eyes” does have a video, but it’s a five-minute slasher film, so I’m not going to embed it. It’s a natural single, so you’d think they’d make something a bit more daytime-friendly available. The six-minute “After Hours” is a rather less obvious track to chart, but it was put out as a promotional single in advance of the album release (it was at 43 last week).

“Death Bed” by Powfu featuring Beabadoobee climbs 23-19, and “Supalonely” by Benee featuring Gus Dapperton climbs 22-21. “Know Your Worth” by Khalid & Disclosure climbs 29-28. “Tequila” by – ahem – Jax Jones & Martin Solveig Present Europa featuring Raye climbs 38-31, and “Boss Bitch” by Doja Cat climbs 34-32. But there are some other new entries…

34. Nathan Dawe featuring Jaykae – “Flowers”

Debut hit for both of these guys. Nathan Dawe is a DJ; Jaykae isn’t the singer on this track, he’s the rapper on the break. The (uncredited) vocals are sampled from “Flowers” by Sweet Female Attitude, which reached number 2 in 2000. In other words, it’s another of those tracks which is essentially a remix, but with the artist credit given to the remixer.

36. Surfaces – “Sunday Best”

This has been out since last summer, but it’s charting now thanks to TikTok. Surfaces are a US duo, and this is their first hit. It’s perfectly pleasant but you suspect it works better at TikTok length.

37. Fredo – “Scorpion”

Bit of a slow start, considering his last single “Netflix and Chill” entered at 13 in November… but it’s a strange time.

39. Mastermind featuring Bandokay – “War”

Well, mmm, yes, not really my thing. Debut hit for both of them.

On the album chart, “After Hours” by the Weeknd is number 1, but we’ve covered that.

3. Morrissey – “I am not a Dog on a Chain”

I was unaware that this was a matter of controversy. Morrissey albums consistently make the top 5, but these days they tend to plunge straight out of the top 40 in a couple of weeks. He does at least seem to be stretching the formula – for one thing, he appears to have belatedly discovered synthpop.

6. Kenny Rogers – “All the Hits & All New Love Songs”

Rogers died last week at the age of 81, and this is a re-entry for his greatest hits album, which reached number 14 on release in 1999. I’ve used “The Gambler” above because, well, it’s got an official video on YouTube… but it was his last UK hit single, reached number 22 in 1985. His biggest hit was “Coward of the County”, which spent two weeks at number 1 in 1980.

9. Slow Readers Club – “The Joy of the Return”

Manchester indie. It’s their second album, and the first to make the top 10. (2018’s “Build a Tower” reached 18.)

10. David Bowie – “Is It Any Wonder”

A rarities collection. This is an alternate version of a song from the first Tin Machine album.

20. Childish Gambino – “3.15.20”

Yes, that’s the entire album. Yes, I know. It’s the fourth Childish Gambino album, and only the second to chart in the UK (the other one was “Awaken My Love”, which reached number 34 in 2016).

25. Young T & Bugsey – “Plead the 5th”

Their first album. The single “Don’t Rush” reached number 20 last year.

30. Conan Gray – “Kid Krow”

Debut album hit.
