Joel Corry featuring MNEK – “Head & Heart”

Three weeks at number one, and with a very comfortable lead. Further down the top 10, some modest climbers. “Lighter” by Nathan Dawe featuring KSI climbs 4-3 (and Dawe’s previous single “Flowers” rebounds from 27 to 19, too). “Watermelon Sugar” by Harry Styles climbs 7-4 in a remarkably slow burn, finally reaching the top 5 in its 20th week on the top 40. “West Ten” by AJ Tracey & Mabel climbs 9-5. And “Secrets” by Regard & Raye – which made it to 7 a month ago – finally reaches the dizzy heights of 6.

7. Billie Eilish – “My Future”

Considering it’s such a quiet week, I’d say that’s on the low side for a debut position. Granted, it’s an unusual choice of single – it sees her moving into a jazz/soul territory which wouldn’t normally get anywhere near this high up the chart. It’s lovely, though.

After that, it’s more small climbs, taking advantage of the quietness. “Go Crazy” by Chris Brown & Young Thug climbs 14-10, which gives Chris Brown his 18th top 10 hit, and Young Thug his third. “Dancing in the Moonlight” by Jubel featuring Neimy climbs 16-12. (The Toploader version got to number 7, which is starting to look very achievable.)

More notably, “Mood Swings” by Pop Smoke featuring Lil Tjay vaults 33-16, breaking from the pack of his album tracks. “Heaven on my Mind” by Becky Hill & Sigala climbs 23-17. And “Fake Friends” by PS1 featuring Alex Hosking climbs 34-28.

35. Paul Woolford, Diplo & Kareen Lomax – “Looking for Me”

It’s been a couple of years since we’ve had a Diplo single in the chart, and it doesn’t particularly sound like him. Producer Paul Woolford gets his first top 40 hit; he’s also known as Bobby Peru and Special Request, but he hasn’t had hits under those names either. Kareen Lomax is an American singer who’s released some well-received singles over the last few years, and charts for the first time.

And that’s the singles chart. Very quiet. Over on the albums, “Folklore” by Taylor Swift gets a second week at number one…

1. Fontaines DC – “A Hero’s Death”

Their debut album got to number 9, so they’re growing. The video above is fabulous.

5. Creeper – “Sex Death & The Infinite Void”

That is… not what I was expecting the single to sound like. This bunch used to be emo/goth types. They now seem to have discovered Bowie. Their previous album only got to number 18, so it seems to be working for them.

8. Alanis Morissette – “Such Pretty Forks in the Road”

Her first album since 2012’s “Havoc and Bright Lights.” It’s her highest placing album since 2004’s “So-Called Chaos”, which also got to 8. The album title is just there to bait people into mentioning knives, isn’t it?

13. The Psychedelic Furs – “Made of Rain”

The Psychedelic Furs reunited as a touring band years ago, but this is their first new studio album since 1991. The single above is really good, thankfully. It’s not quite their highest-placed album ever – 1987’s “Midnight to Midnight” reached 12.

14. Paul McCartney – “Flaming Pie”

Collector’s edition re-issue of his 1997 album. It reached number 2 on its original release – bear in mind that that was around the time that things like “Anthology” were being released, so it was a good time to put out Beatles-related records.

26. Max Richter – “Voices”

Finally for this week, German composer Max Richter, who’s been around since the turn of the century and finally gets his first appearance on the album chart.
