“Ace in the Pouch”<\/strong>

COVER \/ PAGE 1.<\/strong> Cable, with Deadpool behind him. The older Cable costarred with Deadpool in a series for several years, and they were odd-couple friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAGES 2-4.<\/strong> Cable remembers killing his older self.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a flashback to Extermination<\/em> #1. The older Cable’s telepathic line was not<\/em> in the original scene, and fits in between pages 24-25 of the original story. The flashback version also tones down Kid Cable’s original dialogue, which was “Cable, you’re relieved of your duty. Old fool – you really should have seen that coming.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

PAGES 5-6.<\/strong> Credits and recap. The description of Esme as “one-fifth of [Cable’s] girlfriends” glosses over the fact that one of the Cuckoos is seeing Kid Omega, something that was alluded to in passing last issue, and shown in X-Force<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAGES 7-13.<\/strong> Cable and Esme confront the Spaceknights in the Arctic.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They’re cyborgs with living brains…”<\/strong> In Rom, <\/em>the Spaceknights were Galadorian people who had volunteered to be turned into cyborgs in order to fight the Dire Wraiths. Rom himself was restored to his original body in the final issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“They just discovered that their planet was destroyed while they were hibernating.”<\/strong> In Infinity<\/em> #1 (a Jonathan Hickman story), where Galador was destroyed by the Builders. In fact, the recent Yondu<\/em> miniseries revealed that the planet still exists and that a handful of survivors are trying to rebuild civilisation there. But that’s being kept a secret, so this isn’t a continuity error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAGE 14.<\/strong> Cable, Esme and the Spaceknights visit the older Cable’s grave, and find the body stolen.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAGES 15-20.<\/strong> Cable & co go to Staten Island to see Deadpool and find the body.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Deadpool<\/strong> became the king of monsters, and claimed Staten Island for their home, at the start of his current series. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You killed my future self like a month before I did.”<\/strong> In the “Deadpool Kills Cable” arc from Despicable Deadpool<\/em> #287-291.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Benny Hill<\/strong> (1924-1992) was one of British television’s top comedians for decades – his show ran from 1955 to 1989. His best remembered material tends to be his more repetitive later years, but he started off as a pioneer of television as a comedy medium. His grave was indeed broken into shortly after his burial, apparently prompted by newspaper reports that he had been buried with jewels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAGES 21-22.<\/strong> Data pages. Cable writes to Deadpool, asking him to keep his body and his prosthetic arm away from his arch-enemy Stryfe in the event of his death. Deadpool agrees (in his own inimicable style).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stryfe<\/strong>, if you don’t know, is a clone of Cable from the future timeline where he grew up. As Cable says, he’s basically identical but doesn’t have the network of allies that Cable can draw on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PAGES 23-25.<\/strong> The Order of X receive delivery of the stolen baby.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the child of Stinger and Omerta, who was kidnapped last issue. The Order of X have previously shown up in other titles, as one of a number of mutant-worshipping cults who sprung up after Professor X’s telepathic address to the world. It’s been implied in Marauders<\/em> that they’re people whose minds were somehow damaged or altered by the address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
