Ariana Grande &#8211; &#8220;Positions&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><br><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nQJEp-k-ogs\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=nQJEp-k-ogs\">22. Ariana Grande &#8211; &#8220;POV&#8221;<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nQJEp-k-ogs\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>For the second week running, Ariana Grande charts with the maximum three tracks from her new album. &#8220;Positions&#8221; spends its third week at number one &#8211; admittedly without much in the way of competition. &#8220;34+35&#8221; drops from 9 to 18. And we get one of those awkward quirks of the chart rules, as &#8220;POV&#8221; overtakes &#8220;Motive&#8221; as the third-placed track from the album, and elbows it off the chart entirely thanks to the quota rule. Since &#8220;POV&#8221; was disqualified under the same rule last week, technically it becomes this week&#8217;s highest new entry, but it&#8217;s all a little artificial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p><strong>&#8220;Sweet Melody&#8221; by Little Mix<\/strong> deservedly rebounds from 12-3, which makes it their highest-placed single since 2018&#8217;s &#8220;Woman Like Me&#8221; (and by quite some margin).<strong>  &#8220;Levitating&#8221; by Dua Lipa<\/strong> climbs 13-10, to become her tenth top ten hit. And <strong>&#8220;Lonely&#8221; by Justin Bieber &amp; Benny Blanco<\/strong>, which has spent three weeks hovering at 19 or 20, climbs to&#8230; 17. <strong>&#8220;Wonder&#8221; by Shawn Mendes<\/strong> climbs 25-20. Not a busy week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>23. Little Mix &#8211; &#8220;Confetti&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bPw1KicdUzY\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the title track from their sixth album, which enters at number 2. Little Mix have only had one number 1 album (2016&#8217;s &#8220;Glory Days&#8221;), but they&#8217;ve placed all six albums inside the top 40. Not bad for an act assembled for <em>X Factor<\/em>. (They don&#8217;t get a third track into the top 40, though &#8220;Happiness&#8217; is sitting at 43.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Number 24 is <strong>&#8220;Paradise&#8221; by Meduza featuring Dermot Kennedy<\/strong>, climbing from 35. <strong>&#8220;I Miss U&#8221; by Jax Jones featuring Au\/ra <\/strong>climbs 34-28, which overtakes &#8220;Panic Room&#8221; as Au\/ra&#8217;s highest placed single.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>35. Giggs featuring Dave &#8211; &#8220;Straight Murder (Giggs &amp; David)&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/GLuP4N6Wp3E\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>And another album track. This is from Giggs&#8217; album <strong>&#8220;Now or Never&#8221;<\/strong>, which enters at 14 on the album chart this week. It&#8217;s a surprise-release mixtape, so we shouldn&#8217;t read too much into the fact that his previous three albums all did better, making the top 10. He&#8217;s never had that much success on the singles chart &#8211; his only previous appearance in the top 40 was in 2017, when &#8220;Linguo&#8221; got to 28.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Number 36 is <strong>&#8220;Golden&#8221; by Harry Styles<\/strong>, climbing from 40. And look, here&#8217;s an actual single, with a video and everything!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>39. CJ &#8211; &#8220;Whoopty&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2xWkATdMQms\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>He&#8217;s a New York rapper, this is his first hit, and I&#8217;m told it&#8217;s big on TikTok. The beat&#8217;s from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FQ_vT185gVs\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FQ_vT185gVs\">&#8220;Exposing Me&#8221; by Memo 600 &amp; King Von<\/a>, though <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whosampled.com\/sample\/774102\/Memo-600-King-Von-Exposing-Me-Mithoon-Arijit-Singh-Sanam-Re\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.whosampled.com\/sample\/774102\/Memo-600-King-Von-Exposing-Me-Mithoon-Arijit-Singh-Sanam-Re\/\">the hook ultimately comes from a Bollywood ballad<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the album chart&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Kylie Minogue &#8211; &#8220;Disco&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/l73FJBnjp28\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the first time a Kylie Minogue album hasn&#8217;t produced a top 40 single, but it doesn&#8217;t really matter at this stage. Her fifteenth studio album becomes her eighth number 1, and it adds her to the very short list of artists who&#8217;ve had a number 1 album in five straight decades &#8211; in her case, &#8220;Kylie&#8221; and &#8220;Enjoy Yourself&#8221; in the 80s, &#8220;Greatest Hits&#8221; in the 90s (shhh, it counts), &#8220;Fever&#8221; in the 2000s, and &#8220;Aphrodite&#8221;, &#8220;Golden&#8221; and &#8220;Step Back In Time &#8211; The Definitive Kylie Minogue&#8221; in the 2010s. She&#8217;s the first woman to make the list. Madonna could realistically still do it &#8211; she had number 1 albums in the 80s, 90s, 2000s and 2010s, and her last album got to number 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Number 2 is Little Mix, and&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Shirley Bassey &#8211; &#8220;I Owe It All To You&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zK_2WcS3oMc\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Shirley Bassey is now 83, and this has been announced as her final album. She&#8217;s had a top 40 album in seven straight decades, though she&#8217;s never reached number 1. Number 3 is her highest position since she released her 25th anniversary album, &#8220;25th Anniversary Album&#8221;. And that was in 1978.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>7. Dutchavelli &#8211; &#8220;Dutch from the 5th&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Includes the single &#8220;Cool With Me&#8221;, which made it to number 29 in October. It&#8217;s his debut album (well, mixtape, officially, but it&#8217;s 16 songs and 41 minutes&#8230;)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>14. Aled Jones &#8211; &#8220;Blessings&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zPMnvwD_Xz4\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Aled Jones has a solid run of mid-ranking top 20 albums over the last five years, and this maintains the run. It&#8217;s, er, not exactly my cup of tea, but I&#8217;m sure it&#8217;ll make a lovely Christmas present for the intended demographic. The video above features Judi Dench on Guest Monologue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Number 15 is the Giggs album we already mentioned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>10. The Kanneh-Masons, Michael Morpurgo &amp; Olivia Colman &#8211; &#8220;Carnival&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KOx7zmO5ppw\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason is the best known of the family these days, though they did perform as a group on <em>Britain&#8217;s Got Talent<\/em> a few years back. This album is largely based on Saint-Sa\u00ebns&#8217; &#8220;Carnival of the Animals&#8221;, with linking poems that result in an unlikely album chart credit for writer Michael Morpurgo and actress Olivia Colman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>28. Vera Lynn &#8211; &#8220;Keep Smiling Through&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/X1grUSbmOig\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>Basically an album of remastered Vera Lynn vocals with newly orchestrated backing tracks. Lynn died this summer at the age of 100. It&#8217;s interesting that even records aimed at this demographic get some promotion on YouTube these days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>29. The Poor Clares of Arundel &#8211; &#8220;Light for the World&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/tv3l96wwb9E\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p>No, it&#8217;s not an ironically named indie band, it&#8217;s 23 nuns from Sussex releasing an album of meditative plainchant, laid over vaguely ambient backing tracks. That  doubtless broadens the appeal for those who find the full-on plainchant experience a bit, well, full-on. It sounds a bit dubious on paper, but this is actually rather enjoyable.
