{"id":665,"date":"2011-01-02T23:09:53","date_gmt":"2011-01-02T23:09:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=665"},"modified":"2011-01-02T23:09:53","modified_gmt":"2011-01-02T23:09:53","slug":"charts-2-january-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.housetoastonish.com\/?p=665","title":{"rendered":"Charts &#8211; 2 January 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>No reviews today &#8211; Diamond didn&#8217;t actually ship any of the X-books to my store last week, and for that matter they didn&#8217;t ship very much else either, so there&#8217;s pretty much nothing to write about. \u00a0It&#8217;ll all be in next week&#8217;s parcel, and I&#8217;ll cover it next weekend.<\/p>\n<p>While I&#8217;m at it, I might as well cover the quietest chart of the year, covering sales in the dead period between Christmas and New Year. \u00a0You won&#8217;t be surprised to hear that the number one single is still <strong><em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QmffsSRWaUk\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;When We Collide&#8221; by Matt Cardle<\/a><\/em><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">, hanging in for a third week. \u00a0That&#8217;s the longest run at the top since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=dEGnYyKib9E\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Good Times&#8221; by Roll Deep<\/a> in May, though of course they had some more intense competition to deal with. \u00a0We haven&#8217;t had a four-week number one since <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kL6DlOQIwaY\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;The Fear&#8221; by Lily Allen<\/a> in February 2009, but since Cardle is starting to drop down the iTunes chart, I wouldn&#8217;t bet on him matching her.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When We Collide&#8221; was the second-biggest seller of 2010, which isn&#8217;t bad for three weeks of sales. \u00a0The actual top seller of 2010 was <a href=\"&quot;Love The Way You Lie&quot; by Eminem featuring Rihanna\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Love The Way You Lie&#8221; by Eminem featuring Rihanna<\/a>. \u00a0That&#8217;s a surprise, because although it hung around the chart forever, it actually peaked at number 2. \u00a0Apparently it&#8217;s the first time the chart of the year hasn&#8217;t been topped by a number one single. \u00a0But the next eleven singles down were all number 1s, and the one after that was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qHagigQRKqU\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Empire State of Mind&#8221;<\/a> (whose sales were split between two versions), so it looks like a blip rather than a fundamental shift.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">That aside, there is literally nothing going on. \u00a0The usual shuffling of places at the lower end of the chart, plus some back catalogue sales from year-in-review airplay, results in five re-entries, all between 35 and 40 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=35LA3Rb6VOQ\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Higher&#8221; by the Saturdays<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=QzvGKas5RsU\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Pass Out&#8221; by Tinie Tempah<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=uu_zwdmz0hE\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Barbra Streisand&#8221; by Duck Sauce<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=-4S9gQb9PjM\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Please Don&#8217;t Let Me Go&#8221; by Olly Murs<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Cq-NShfefks\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Magic&#8221; by B.o.B. featuring Rivers Cuomo<\/a> &#8211; but that&#8217;s about it.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Next week&#8230; there&#8217;s at least something out.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>No reviews today &#8211; Diamond didn&#8217;t actually ship any of the X-books to my store last week, and for that matter they didn&#8217;t ship very much else either, so there&#8217;s pretty much nothing to write about. \u00a0It&#8217;ll all be in next week&#8217;s parcel, and I&#8217;ll cover it next weekend.
