It’s his third album, two of which were posthumous. Posthumous albums are a dubious exercise at the best of times, at least when they go beyond completing a final product to pillaging the archives for material that the artist consciously chose not to release during life. This single is perfectly fine on its merits, but it’s hard to look past the fact that it’s essentially an unreleased Pop Smoke fragment plastered over a Dua Lipa track.

It does seem likely that Dua Lipa’s name is helping the chart position – the next highest track from the album is ‘Tell the Vision” at number 55, and that’s got Kanye West on it! – but this is a track which is being officially promoted as a single, not just a case of cherrypicking.

24. (Its predecessor, “Dissimulation”, got to 2.) KSI’s now five years into his music career and has incontrovertibly made the transition from being a social media star who releases records, to a pop star who got started on YouTube. The Anne-Marie collab “Don’t Play”, which reached number 2 back in January, appears on this album and re-enters from outside the top 100, but the chart compilers seem to be treating it as principally an Anne-Marie track, as it’s not counting towards KSI’s three-song limit – “Holiday”, his current single, is still in the top 10 at number 7. The other two tracks are just cherrypicked album tracks, though “Gang Gang” in particular would be a fairly obvious choice of single.

34. It’s his first new material since releasing his mixtape in March, which makes a number 34 debut slightly surprising… but then it has only been a few months. It’s got a strong enough hook to go further, though.

37. Sigala & Rita Ora – “You for Me”

This is Rita Ora’s first appearance in the top 40 since 2019, when she appeared on a Tiesto track that got to number 24. The climbers:

“Stay” by Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber climbs 5-2. It peaked at 19 earlier in the year.

On the album chart, the KSI album is number 1.
