Wolverine and Deadpool’s eyes now appear in the spaces around the big circular panel.

I have to say that I simply can’t follow the action in this sequence. On page 2, Deadpool has the briefcase, and it’s still attached by a pair of handcuffs to the severed hand of its previous owner (which was cut off in the previous issue). Wolverine tackles Deadpool, and on page 3 panel 2 Wolverine clearly doesn’t have any handcuffs. Then, two panels later, Wolverine and Deadpool are handcuffed together. What?

PAGE 5. Recap and credits, with annotations from Deadpool. He bills himself as “Head of X”, which used to be Jonathan Hickman’s billing.

PAGES 6-8. Deadpool visits Weasel.

Weasel was Deadpool’s tech support guy throughout the Joe Kelly run. As this scene would indicate, they fell out rather badly. The footnote to Spider-Man / Deadpool – the ongoing series from 2016 to 2019 – is basically accurate. In that series, Weasel got himself resurrected as “Patient Zero” by making a deal with Mephisto to participate in a scheme to capture Spider-Man’s soul. He’s been resurrected twice more since then, and Deadpool’s basically correct to say that the details of their continuity aren’t worth keeping track of any more, and that it really all just goes round in circles. Mainly, Weasel wants revenge on Deadpool for the way Deadpool treated him when they were supposedly allies, but sometimes he grits his teeth and gets on with it for the money.

PAGE 9. Data page. Delores Ramirez makes some notes about the plot. The first few paragraphs are just recapping her dealings with Maverick. Then she confirms that the severed Wolverine hand that she acquired at the Legacy House auction in issue #9 is in fact part of a robot duplicate. Somehow or other, the CIA have tracked this thing to being a creation of Danger’s.

PAGES 13-21. Wolverine and Deadpool fight Danger’s robots.

Broadly speaking, Deadpool’s idea seems to be that the CIA were going to make a deal with Danger to acquire robot duplicates of the X-Men for use in anti-Krakoan operations, and that he’s intervened to thwart the plot, which ought to prove himself to the Krakoans and get him accepted into X-Force. Deadpool teleports Wolverine away before Danger can be asked about any of this, and insists that there’s a good reason for this which we’ll learn about later – as well as making the meta point that he needs to drag the story out.

Danger was last seen in All-New X-Factor, I believe, when she was indeed on the X-Men’s side. Of course, as an artificial intelligence, she wouldn’t be very welcome on Krakoa, but Wolverine may not appreciate the significance of that. Her plane is a duplicate of the X-Men’s Blackbird jet from the 1980s.

PAGES 22-23. Weasel and Maverick steal the briefcase.

Entirely predictably, Weasel betrays Deadpool and has the teleporter take them into an adamantium cage. The content of the briefcase appears to be the components of a Danger robot wearing a Cerebro helmet, for reasons that will doubtless become clear.

Shi’ar logic diamonds are the memory storage for Cerebro units; presumably they have value to people just as extraterrestrial technology, since people were trying to steal them from the Marauder back in issues #13-14.

PAGE 24. Trailers.

As always, this post contains spoilers, and page numbers go by the digital edition.
