House to Astonish Episode 85

Posted on Saturday, June 2, 2012 by Al in Podcast

We’re back after our week away, looking at the coming out of Alan Scott, the wedding of Northstar, the crusade of One Million Moms, the Eagle Awards imbroglio, the ever-increasing character cast of Iron Man 3, the continuing success of the Avengers and where Marvel TV goes next. There are also reviews of Mind MGMT, Ravagers and Grim Leaper, and the Official Handbook of the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe finds that cash rules everything around it. All this plus the best double glazing salesman, U-list villains and an enormous bunny rabbit.

  1. AJ says:

I doubt there’d be any reluctance based on powers. I’m pretty sure Marvel Studios would make Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and X-Men movies if they could.

Also, you forgot Odin, who definitely has fantastical inherent powers.

  2. Mark Clapham says:

Who would have thought putting Jeph Loeb in charge of Marvel TV productions wouldn’t lead to great success? Fancy that.

Bob Harras is slowly realising our worst fears that he would bring every hack from his Marvel EIC reign of terror back into the DC fold. Where’s Bill Jemas when you need him?

  3. Andy Walsh says:

How have they still not figured out that an X-Factor TV show is a slam dunk (name collisions notwithstanding)?

It’s got a large, diverse cast. It’s premise adapts nicely to a crime-of-the-week episodic format. Most of the characters have budget-friendly superpowers. It’s got a pitch that’s easy to grasp – “Heroes” meets “Sherlock”. Only one of the characters has been in a movie, and it was a small enough part that is easily forgotten. Oh, and PAD has actual experience writing for TV and even showrunning. Seems like money in the bank to me.

  4. Delpire says:

Think one million mummies was mentioned on this podcast, it backfired 😀
