Charts – 16 October 2026
One of those weeks where at least the album chart is doing something.
1. Taylor Swift – “Patient Zero”
Three weeks. Taylor Swift is in the happy position of having fans who buy physical product in large numbers, and who are willing to wait for it to come out. So she shipped another 33,000 CDs last week, which would very nearly have been enough to get her to number 1 even before looking at her streaming points. And her streaming is substantial, but if she didn’t have those CDs, she’d be at number 8. The number one would be Jamie Miller’s “Babydoll” (and “Rein Me In” would once again be claiming to be the rightful number one on the basis of unadjusted streams).
15. Pink featuring Nate Ruess – “Just Give Me A Reason”
Apparently they’ve just rediscovered this over on TikTok. It is a good song, to be fair. It spent two weeks at number 2 in 2013, when it had the misfortune to be kept off number 1 by a one-week resurgence for PJ & Duncan’s “Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble” after Ant & Dec performed it on their ITV show.
36. Olivia Rodrigo – “Expectations”
This has just been released as a single in a new version which adds Chappell Roan, but it’s charting here on the basis of streams of the original album version. Unless something goes very badly wrong, it’ll vault up the chart next week. It’s a fairly natural collaboration, because both work heavily with the same producer and co-writer, Dan Nigro.
38. Season 25 – “Shotta’s.”
Debut hit. There’s remarkably little information available about who this guy is, but this seems to be a genuine viral hit from someone who’s been plugging away largely unnoticed for a couple of years. One of his previous tracks does have a proper video, and it’s actually quite good.
This week’s climbers:
- “Babydoll” by Jamie Miller climbs 3-2.
- “Stop the Wedding” by Ashe climbs 4-3.
- “Willing and Able” by Noah Kahan climbs 20-17.
- “Good Girl” by Cloonee & Prospa featuring Tristan Henry climbs 25-22.
- “Mi Chico” by DJ Goja, Jason Derulo & Melody climbs 30-25.
- “Pure” by Siena Spiro climbs 32-28.
- “Cos Of You” by Morrisson climbs 40-34.
There are three more re-entries by tracks hovering around the number 40 mark (Robyn, the Killers and Natasha Bedingfield), so there are six tracks laving the top 40:
- “Storm II” by Gener8ion & Yung Lean after a single week at number 37.
- “Solar Eclipse” by Drake & Don Toliver, after a single week at number 22.
- “Quebec” by Drake after a single week at number 27.
- “Cold Shoulder” by Drake, Don Toliver & Yebba after a single week at number 36.
- “Babylon” by Taylor Swift, which entered at number 4 two weeks ago as an album track.
- “The One That Got Away” by Katy Perry, after an improbably long run of 22 weeks hovering around the lower reaches of the top 40, in which it never made it above number 24.
On the album chart:
1. Jamie T – “Ghosts (100 Days of Mourning)”
His sixth studio album, his second number 1. All six made the top 5, and the first came out nearly 20 years ago now. It only marginally takes the number 1 spot over…
2. Chase & Status – “Generic Everything”
And so this is Chase & Status’ third number two album, matching the peaks of “No More Idols” in 2011 and “Brand New Machine” in 2013.
9. Troye Sivan – “She’s The Best”
His fourth studio album, matching the peak of its predecessor.
11. The Temperance Movement – “New Promise Land Incorporated”
Their fourth studio album, after an eight year gap (though they’ve released a rarities compilation and a live album during that time). Their all-time peak is number 6, but this is more typical for their studio albums.
12. The Lilacs – “Keeping Up With The Joneses”
.
Debut album. They’re an indie band from Wigan.
19. Pet Shop Boys – “A Man From The Future”
Their last studio album reached number 2, but this is more of a side project – a concept album about the life of Alan Turing featuring songs and spoken word pieces, some of which was previously performed live over a decade ago.
20. Cameron Winter – “Live at Carnegie Hall”
Cameron Winter is the lead singer of Geese. Curiously, his solo studio album “Heavy Metal” didn’t chart, making this a rare case of a live album massively outperforming the studio.
28. Basht. – “Poor Advice”
They’re an Irish indie band and this is their debut. It’s in the top 10 in Ireland.
40. Greta Van Fleet – “Palace for the People”
Fourth album. The previous two both made number 8, so this has fallen off a cliff for some reason.
