Okay, it’s late in the week, let’s see if we can do this one quickly.

1. Sam Fender & Olivia Dean – “Rein Me In” 

Twenty-one interminable weeks. It is dropping off now that the publicity from breaking the record has passed, though, so it’s probably only a matter of time before it finally, finally, goes to ACR and gets removed from number 1.

8. Madonna & Kylie Minogue – “Love Sensation” 

With a combined age of over 125, this is the single remix of a track from Madonna’s recent album. Unusually, it’s here almost entirely on sales, and two thirds of those are CDs. The midweeks have it vanishing. Still, the track’s not bad at all, and it suits Kylie.

Kylie’s chart career dates back to 1988, and she had a number 1 hit just last year – admittedly with “XMAS”, but it still counts. Madonna hasn’t been this high up the chart since 2009, and it’s her 65th top 10 hit. That still leaves her short of Cliff Richard and Elvis Presley, but it’s impressive nonetheless.

23. Steve Lacy – “Oh Yeah”

Another track charting on the back of its inclusion in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Lacy’s only other UK hit was “Bad Habit”, which reached number 8 in 2022. Perhaps more surprisingly, he’s yet to place an album in the UK top 40 either.

26. Sabrina Carpenter – “Espresso”

Bafflingly, a two-year anniversary reissue on coffee-filled vinyl. It looks… pretty dreadful, honestly. And they’ve missed the actual two-year anniversary by about three months. Still, the fans bought it. It spend seven weeks at number 1 in 2024.

28. Ella Langley – “Be Her”

This is weird. This track has been out for months and has been languishing outside the top 40 for 18 weeks already, while “Choosin’ Texas” continues to sit in the top 10. It’s at number 3 this week. But for some reason it now vaults 14 places to give her a second hit single. It’s not even her current single – that’s “Weren’t For The Wind”, which has been out for six weeks and is yet to get above number 81.

30. Sombr – “My Body Isn’t Ready”

This is a re-entry for the last Sombr single, which seemed to have underperformed – it entered at number 27 and left the chart after four weeks. For some reason, though, it’s promptly turned around and started climbing again.

34. Hugel & Solto – “Jamaican (Bam Bam)”

This has been out for nine months, but it’s receiving some spillover attention after Hugel’s “Movin’ to the Sun” made the top 10 – it climbs to 4 this week. They’re both French producers. The track is essentially a remix of Sister Nancy’s “Bam Bam”, a 1982 dancehall track that has been heavily sampled over the years.

39. Alex Warren – “Rescuer” 

More of the same, really. “Ordinary” is still hanging around in the top 20 after 78 weeks on the top 40, but the last couple of singles haven’t done so well – they reached 20 and 22 and neither lasted more than a fortnight in the top 40.

• “Movin’ To The Sun” by Hugel, Imael Angel & Ultra Naté climbs 7-4.
• “Great Expectation” by Sienna Spiro climbs 10-7.
• “Loser” by Tame Impala climbs 27-14.
• “Earrings” by Malcolm Todd climbs 20-15, six weeks after it first reached number 16. It’s been hovering between 15 and 20 since May.
• “Animal” by Katseye rebound 18-16 in its third week, returning to its entry position.
• “Bloodstream” by Alyssa Grace climbs 22-18.
• “Sign of the Times” by Harry Styles climbs 25-20, returning to a peak it previously reached in June.
• “Blessings” by Calvin Harris & Clementine Douglas climbs 24-21.
• “Self Aware” by Temper City climbs 26-24.
• “Sue Me” by Audrey Hobert climbs 33-29.

There are five new entries and three re-entries this week (the other re-entry is Olivia Dean at number 38). The tracks leaving the top 40 are:

• “I Knew It, I Knew You” by Taylor Swift, which had two weeks at number 1 and lasted 9 weeks.
• “Kiss Me” by Ariana Grande, an album track which got a single week at number 1.
• “Wonderwall” by Oasis, which had a 7-week run on the back of the World Cup, peaking at number 2.
• “Die With A Smile” by Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars, which re-entered three weeks ago and peaked at 28.
• “Dancing On My Own” by Robyn, which had two weeks as a re-entry, both at number 35.
• “Where the Wild Things Are” by Luke Combs, after a single week at number 37.
• “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” by Shakira featuring Freshlyground, somehow got a four week run, peaking at number 26, on the back of the World Cup, despite  being very explicitly recorded for a different one.

On the album chart, it’s quite a busy week.

1. The Reytons – “A Love Letter To A Broken Town” 

Their fourth studio album, and their second number one. I liked the single more than I expected.

5. Flo – “Therapy At The Club” 

Flo are an odd group – a girl band who seem to be intended for the singles chart, but somehow have made it to a second top 5 album despite never getting a single above number 38.

6. Role Model – “Chuck Timely & The Hourglass” 

US singer songwriter who’s on his third studio album; this is his first appearance in the UK album top 40.

12. Overmono – “Pure Devotion”

Welsh electronic duo. It’s their second album, landing one place below its predecessor from three years ago. Interesting single.

26. Kylie Minogue – “X”

Kylie also has something of her own to promote this week: vinyl reissues of four of her albums. This is the only one to make the album top 40, but it’s also the only one that hasn’t been released on vinyl before. The album reached number 4 on release in 2007.

33. Man/Woman/Chainsaw – “Cannonball”

Debut album. They’re an indie band from London, and sound nothing whatsoever like the name would suggest.

38. Keyside – “Keyside” 

And finally, the debut album for a Liverpool indie band – pleasantly retro.
