Charts – 18 April 2025

Posted on Saturday, April 19, 2025 by Paul in Music

Coming up – a new answer to a chart trivia question!

1. Alex Warren – “Ordinary”

Five weeks. It’s down slightly from last week, but only marginally – it’s still beating the number 2 single by 78%. Now, what wonders does the music industry have in store for us this week?

21. Jack Black – “Steve’s Lava Chicken”

Yes, that’s the whole thing. The video has been padded out with the entire scene, but the audio track on streaming services is 34 seconds long. And three of those are silent. There is also an “extended version”, which runs to 65 seconds and is unlikely to be of any interest to anyone at all.

This sets a new record for the shortest track ever to chart. The margin is smaller than you might think. The previous record-holder is “The Ladies’ Bras” by Jonny Trunk & Wisbey, which reached number 27 in 2007, and clocked in at 36 seconds.

Don’t ask.

Oh alright: it’s a track from a mostly spoken-word comedy album called “Dirty Fan Male” which otherwise consists of enthusiastically professional readings of allegedly-genuine fan mail to glamour models (which is available on streaming services if you want to hear it). It was hyped into the top 40 by Danny Baker and Scott Mills.

Jack Black previously had another solo hit with “Peaches” from the Super Mario Bros soundtrack in 2023 (which got to 28), and his band Tenacious D had a couple of hits in the 2000s. This is now his highest chart position.

29. Taylor Swift featuring Post Malone – “Fortnight”

This was number one for a single week a year ago. It’s back because of a vinyl release for Record Store Day, which accounts for the vast majority of its chart points.

30. Lana Del Rey – “Henry, Come On”

This is the lead single from her upcoming country album, although in practice that means it’s a Lana Del Rey ballad with some country touches on the arrangement. It’s very pleasant. We last saw her last year with Quavo when “Tough” reached 32.

35. Moliy & Silent Addy – “Shake it to the Max (Fly)”

Moliy is from Ghana, though she’s spent time in the USA. She has in fact charted before – she was a featured guest on Amaarae’s “Sad Gurlz Love Money”, which reached number 29 in 2021. Silent Addy is a Jamaican producer, and this is his first UK hit. The track is a few months old, and seems to be taking off now after a remix which adds Skillibeng (who had a number 38 hit with Tyla and Gunna last year) and Shenseea (a Jamaican dancehall singer, making her first appearance on the UK singles chart).

However, it’s the original version that’s officially listed as the lead track and determines the artist credit. They’re both pretty good!

This week’s climbers:

  • “Show Me Love” by WizTheMC and bees & honey climbs 8-6.
  • “Love Me Not” by Ravyn Lena climbs 14-10 to enter the top 10.
  • “Mutt” by Leon Thomas climbs 19-17.
  • “Undressed” by sombr climbs 28-19, overtaking…
  • “Back to Friends” by sombr, which climbs 25-23.
  • “Running Around” by Ely Oaks climbs 32-28.

The four tracks leaving the top 40 are:

  • “Dark Thoughts” by Lil Tecca, with a four week run, peaking at 20.
  • “Lose Control” by Teddy Swims, after a six week re-entry run in the 30s.
  • “Hometown Glory” by Adele, after a four week re-entry run, peaking at 29.
  • “Tonight” by PinkPantheress, after a single week at 35.

On the album chart.

1. Those Damn Crows – “God Shaped Hole”

This is their fourth album. Their debut in 2018 didn’t chart; the 2020 album reached 14; the 2023 album got to number 3; and this is their first number one. The track above is very trad rock.

4. Bon Iver – “Sable, Fable”

His fifth studio album. The last one missed the top 10, but the two before that also made the top 5, so we’re back on track.

14. Sam Fender – “Me & The Dog”

This a 12″ vinyl EP released for Record Store Day, which technically qualifies for the album chart. It shifted a little over 5,000 copies.

33. Liam Gallagher – “Acoustic Sessions”

This was a digital release which got a single week at number 24 in 2020. It’s been reissued on vinyl for Record Store Day. Oasis’ compilation “Time Flies: 1994-2009” also got a vinyl release this week, which causes it to jump 17-3.

37. Charli XCX – “Number 1 Angel”

Finally, another Record Store Day release. This is a vinyl issue of a digital-only mixtape which missed the top 100 entirely on release in 2017. Obviously, Charli XCX’s star has risen considerably since then.
